Arianna's POV

I woke up to the scent of freshly baked cupcakes wafting through the air. I snapped my eyes open and flexed my arms, feeling a mix of excitement and dread. Today was my 17th birthday.

I ran a hand through my hair as I sluggishly rose to my feet and dragged my legs towards the bathroom for a quick shower.

As I got dressed, my mind wandered back to the conversation I had with my father five years ago, He had taken me to the old oak tree in the woods, his eyes serious and somber.

"Arianna, you are growing up, and it is high time you knew the truth about your fate," he had said, his voice low and gravelly. "When you turn 18, you will be required to fulfill an ancient prophecy. You will be the key to unlocking the werewolf king's true power."

I remembered feeling like I had been punched in the gut. A sacrifice? Me? I had found it extremely hard to believe that my life would end when I turned 18th. From that day on, I slowly reminded myself each day that my days had been numbered.

I learned to cherish every second, minute or hour that passed by.

My father's words had been etched in my mind like a curse. I couldn not shake the feeling that my life was predetermined, that I was nothing more than a pawn in a game I did not understand.

As I made my way downstairs, my brother Darius greeted me with a small smile and a tray of cupcakes. "Happy birthday, kiddo. I made your favorite flavor, chocolate."

I forced a smile, feeling like I was living a lie. How could I celebrate my birthday when my fate was already sealed?

"Thanks I guess." I said, in a bored tone. "It looks amazing, hopefully it tastes just as it looks." I teased him.

As we sang "Happy Birthday" and I blew out the candles, I noticed my father was no where around so I had to ask Darius. "What about dad?" I questioned.

Darius cleared his throat and answered "He was summoned by to the royal palace since morning. He has not been home since then." Darius said.

I sighed heavily. My thoughts went back to my fate. I felt a shiver down my spine. I had a year left before my 18th birthday.

Darius seemed to have noticed the sadness I was feeling. He rushed towards my direction and placed his warm hands on my shoulder. "You are going to be okay Arianna, the Moon goddess knows best. Try not to think too deep about things and enjoy your birthday." He said with a reassuring smile.

It was finally time for breakfast, my father, Orion had finally arrived. I had questions to ask him but I chose save them for later.

We gathered around the dining table and my dad spoke with a hand placed on my shoulder. "Happy birthday my dear daughter. I am so proud of you and I am sure mother feels the same way too. I want you to know that we will face whatever comes next together, as a family."

I nodded, trying to muster up a smile, but it felt forced. Had everything already been sealed? Was that why he was summoned to the royal palace this morning? I needed answers.

Darius, sensing my unease, reached out and took my hand. "Ari, it is going to be okay. We will figure something out. You are not alone in this."

I appreciated their efforts, but it was not enough to erase the feeling of dread that had taken up residence in my stomach. I felt like I was living on borrowed time, like every day brought me closer to the inevitable.

As we finished breakfast, my father handed me a small gift box. "I know it is not much, but I wanted to get you something special for your birthday."

I opened the box, revealing a beautiful silver necklace with a small crystal pendant. It was lovely but how long was I going to wear it? Just for another year?

"Thanks, Dad," I said, trying to sound sincere. "It is really pretty."

My father smiled, but I could see the concern etched on his face. He knew I was struggling, and he did not know how to help me.

After breakfast, I headed back to my room. I laid on my bed drowned myself in my own thoughts. I was starting to enjoy the coolness coming from my room's window and the defeaning silence when a sudden bang on the door startled me.

Darius barged into my room with a worried look on his face. He was struggling to catch his breath.

I jerked off my bed at alert and rushed towards Darius with a look of concern plastered on my face. "What is going on Darius?" I asked, my brows furrowed at him in confusion mixed with fear.

Darius wanted to say more but a group of men dressed in armours barged into my room. Their faces looked strong and their eyes were darted toward my direction.

I gulped a lump down my throat and staggered backward in shock. "W-ho..who ar-e th-ey?" I stuttered, my heart raced extremely fast and the hairs on my skin rose.

"We are from the royal palace, here to take you to the king." One of the guards spoke in a harsh tone.

I shook my head in disagreement. I was not eighteen yet, why were they here to take me then?

"Where is father?" I asked.

Darius shook his head. "I have no idea." He turned to the guards and pleaded. "Please do not take my sister until my father returns."

"It is the command of the King that we take her immediately." Without wasting another minute, the guards rushed towards me and grabbed me by the arm like a prisoner.

I cried and struggled to get out of their grip but they were too strong for me.

Tears clouded my eyes as I was slowly pulled away from home. This was my last goodbye to my family. It was time to face my fate.

"Kael, I demand to know what is going on between you and that...that slave girl." She spat, her voice venomous.I could not help but scoff. I hated how Arianna was addressed as a slave girl to everyone. She was nothing close to that. As a matter of fact, I expected everyone in the kingdom to see her as a noble person, after all she was going to sacrifice her life for the betterment of the kingdom, whether she did it willingly or not did not matter."Slave girl? Do not address her as that Elaine. Her name is Arianna." I said. I watched Elaine scoff at me, she shaked her head in disappointment. "Do I look like I care about what her name is? To me she i

It had been days since my confrontation with Kael, and I could not shake the feeling that something had shifted between us.Ever since then, Kael began to act soft towards me. He was not bugging me or ordering me around. It seemed like the walls he had set between us had finally collapsed. I was unaware of how to feel, whether to let my guard down or not. I wondered if that was just one of Kael's scheme to manipulate me, it was hard for me to trust him, to trust anyone at all.I sighed heavily and allowed the cool breeze to pull my hair sideways. How could he kiss me if he was entangled with someone else? How could he betray me like this?Elaine faced me with eyes gleaming, a mix of malice and triumph dancing within them, like a predator that had just cornered its prey. I took a deep breath, my composure slipping, but I refused to let her see the storm of emotions brewing inside me."You're carrying his child?" The murmurs of discontent swirled around the room like a storm, and Kael could feel every set of eyes on him.“Alpha Kael, your leadership is being questioned,” came the voice of Elder Corwin, a sharp, cold presence within the pack. His eyes glinted with something dangerous as he stood at the edge of the table, arms folded across his chest. “You’ve allowed rogues to breach our borders and threaten our people. And yet, you act as though nothing is wrong. You’ve been absent. Distant. And this pack is suffering for it.”The words stung, though Kael kept his face impassive. He had heard these complaints before, but hearing them now, after everything that had happened with Arianna, was harder to swallow than ever.“I’ve been dealing with matters that concern the future of this pack,” Kael replie

Kael’s POV The rain was still whispering against the windows when I stepped back into my quarters, the scent of her still hanging in the air—wild rain, warm skin, and something else. Something of mine. She was sitting by the fire, wrapped in a blanket, legs tucked beneath her. Her head turned at the sound of the door, and for a moment, the world just... stopped. Arianna. Goddess, I didn’t know how she did it. How she made me feel like the ground beneath my feet was shaking and solid all at once. One look from her could settle my wolf or drive him into a frenzy. The patrol had been dealt with—quick and clean. A couple of rogues testing the borders, nothing serious. But the entire time I’d been out there, all I could think about was her. The fire in her eyes. The vulnerability in her voice. The way she had looked at me before I left, as if handing me a piece of her and daring me not to drop it. I hadn’t. I wouldn’t. “Did you win?” she asked, eyes glinting with tired amusement.

Arianna’s POVThe sky wore a veil of thick gray clouds, the kind that whispered secrets of a coming storm. The air buzzed with anticipation, a low hum only a wolf could hear. I could feel it in my bones—the first rain in months. The land had dried to a brittle crisp, and the trees stood still like they too were holding their breath. With one look up, I peeled the shirt from my skin, casting it aside with little ceremony. My skin tingled with every gust of wind, every shiver racing across my spine. My heart drummed with something more than excitement. It was freedom. Finally.I stepped outside barefoot, letting the cool earth kiss my soles. The first drop landed on my collarbone, slow and sweet, then another, and another until the heavens cracked open. Rain. Real, cold, blessed rain.I laughed—loud and shameless—as I tilted my head back and let it pour over me. It was cleansing, wild, like the Goddess herself was pouring life down onto us again. My skin was slick, my hair curling and c

But then the bell tolled again, three sharp strikes that vibrated through bone and soul. Not a drill. It's not a training exercise. Not in the last six years. The bell was only rung when the pack was under siege. When something real came crawling through the shadows with blood on its teeth.“Shit.”Kael threw off the covers, bare feet hitting the cold floor as instinct took over. He didn’t even think to reach for a shirt, grabbing only the shorts he wore to sleep. For one blinding second, I thought we were under attack—another punishment, another training gone wrong. My survival instincts screamed fight. But when my vision cleared and the haze of sleep faded… There she was. Elaine. Standing above me with the smugness of a she-devil dressed in silk. The silver pitcher still dangled from her perfectly manicured hand, droplets sliding down its side like the poison she spit from her mouth every time she spoke. “What the hell, Elaine?” I snapped, wiping my soaked face, shivering in the cold morning air that clawed at my bones like a ghost. “Oh, I’m sorry,” she said with a syrupy smile that di

I held her like she was the only anchor keeping me sane, and maybe she was. “Arianna,” I whispered against her lips, “stop trying to break free. I love you.” She gasped. Not the delicate kind. It was ragged, raw—like my confession tore something loose inside her. Her palms pushed at my chest, but her eyes… gods, her eyes trembled. Still, her mouth parted, softening, until— SLAP! Pain exploded across my cheek, and I reeled back, blinking. The world cracked like shattered glass and spun around me, bright and disorienting. Suddenly, it was gone. Darkness.
