Kael's POV
I sat on the throne in the grand chamber, my eyes fixed on my father, Julian, as he spoke. "The guards havs gone to fetch the girl who will help you unlock your powers."
I raised an eyebrow, feigning nonchalance. "Oh, great. Another attempt to fix me." I said in a bored tone. I paused to roll my eyes.
Once again, my father was here to remind me of my incompetence and inability to use my powers since for some reasons unknown to me, my powers had been locked away ever since I was born. Somehow, the fate of my powers depended on a strange girl, she was the key to unlocking them.
My father's expression turned stern. "Kael, this is no laughing matter. Your powers are growing stronger by the day, and if you do not learn to control them, you will be a danger to yourself and others."
I rolled my eyes at him, as if that was news to me. My father constantly reminded me of how I was like a ticking bomb to the palace. I was too dangerous to rule the kingdom and that was why I needed some random girl to help me unlock my powers and control it.
I felt incompetent.
"You just need to remain calm until she clocks eighteen. Then she will sacrifice her life to help you unlock your abilities. That way, people of the kingdom will finally see you as the potential king." My father repeated for the hundredth time.
I shrugged, feeling a familiar sense of pressure from my father. "I will be fine, Father. I always am."
But Julian's expression only darkened. "Also I should remind you that you need to take your kingship seriously, Kael. The kingdom is not a place for jokes and play. You can not keep coasting on your charm and good looks. The people expect more from their king." He warned me.
I ran a hand through my hair and muttered a cuss under my breath, I felt a sense of frustration wash over me. Why could my father not just trust me to do my job?
He was always waffling about one thing or the other. It made me see myself as incapable.
Just then, Alexander, my right-hand man, entered the room. I released a heavy sigh and gestured him to move forward. Fortunately for me, my conversation with my father was about to end because Alexander's presence seemed like an emergency.
Alexander bowed his head at me and my father in respect. "Your Majesty, the girl has arrived. The guards have brought her here." He said in a serious tone. His eyes remained fixated on the floor and his head bent low at me and my father.
I sat upright, my heart raced extremely fast and my face suddenly became pale. I was curious too, what was she like? What she aware of the kind of sacrifice she was about to proceed into.
"I will leave you two. I need to attend to the elders of the pack. They need answers." Without wasting anymore time. My father rose to his feet, he patted my shoulder and slowly made his way out of the chamber room.
Alexander turned to me and asked "Shall I ask the girl to come in?"
"Yes, bring her in." I nodded my head in agreement.
Alexander rushed towards the entrance and yelled to the guards. "Bring the girl in!"
In less than a minute, I turned to see a young girl being led into the room. She looked...different from what I had expected. Her eyes flashed with defiance, and her jaw was set in a determined line.
"So, you are the one who is supposed to help me unlock my powers," I said, trying to sound nonchalant. I eyes her from head to toe.
Her gaze met mine, and I felt a jolt of surprise. "I am not here to help you by my will." She spat. "I am here because I was dragged away from my family against my will. And I will never forgive you for that." Her tone was shaky and her breathing was hitched.
I raised an eyebrow, taken aback by her ferocity. "Well, well, well. Looks like we have a little firecracker on our hands."
I slowly walked towards her and helped her tuck a strand of her red curly hair behind her ears. I had to admit, she had the softest hair ever.
Her eyes flashed with anger. "You have no idea what I am capable of. And I will never help you unlock your powers. You will have to find someone else to do your dirty work."
I scoffed and clenched my fist tight. I felt a surge of anger at her defiance. How dare she refuse to help me? I was the king, after all. I felt mocked.
The guards must have noticed the angry look on my face because they rushed towards her, ready to attack at my command.
"Listen here girl.." I started, my voice low and menacing. "You will do as I say, or you will suffer the consequences. And if you refuse to help me, I will make sure your dear family pays the price. Do I make myself clear?" I raised a brow at her, waiting for her to succumb to my threat.
Her eyes widened, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of fear. But then her expression hardened, and she spat at my feet. Wow! This girl was certainly full of surprises, she managed to amuse me.
For some weird reason, it made me interested in her.
"You will never break me." she said, her voice trembling with rage and confidence.
I smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. "We will see about that then." I said, my eyes glinting with menace. "Alexander, take her away. I will deal with her later."
As Alexander led her away, I could not help but feel a sense of excitement. This was going to be fun.
Arianna's POV I strode down the palace hallway, my feet aching from another long day of being locked up within these oppressive walls. Two months had passed since I had been dragged away from my family, and every day had been a struggle to survive.I sighed, feeling a familiar sense of despair wash over me. Living with Kael was like being trapped in a never-ending nightmare. Every day, I woke up with a sense of dread, wondering what new torment he would inflict upon me. It made me hate myself and i always questioned my own existence, why was I born with such a horrible fate like this? It would have been better if I was born with a curse rather than a death wish.Kael's stubbornness and nonchalance were like a constant drumbeat in my mind, wearing me down with every passing day. I felt like I was losing my mind, bit by bit, as I struggled to survive in this toxic environment.I hate him, I thought, the words echoing in my mind like a mantra. I hate him for his cruelty, for his indif
Kael's POV I stood in the grand throne room, my eyes fixed on Elaine, my betrothed. She was a vision of beauty, with her golden hair and piercing blue eyes. But her expression was far from lovely.Elaine stood in front of me with so much rage in her eyes. Her fists were clenched tight as she spoke with so much disdain laced in her tone. "Kael, I demand to know what is going on between you and that...that slave girl." She spat, her voice venomous.I could not help but scoff. I hated how Arianna was addressed as a slave girl to everyone. She was nothing close to that. As a matter of fact, I expected everyone in the kingdom to see her as a noble person, after all she was going to sacrifice her life for the betterment of the kingdom, whether she did it willingly or not did not matter."Slave girl? Do not address her as that Elaine. Her name is Arianna." I said. I watched Elaine scoff at me, she shaked her head in disappointment. "Do I look like I care about what her name is? To me she i
Arianna's POV I walked through the palace gardens, lost in thought. It had been days since my confrontation with Kael, and I could not shake the feeling that something had shifted between us.Ever since then, Kael began to act soft towards me. He was not bugging me or ordering me around. It seemed like the walls he had set between us had finally collapsed. I was unaware of how to feel, whether to let my guard down or not. I wondered if that was just one of Kael's scheme to manipulate me, it was hard for me to trust him, to trust anyone at all.I sighed heavily and allowed the cool breeze to pull my hair sideways. I enjoyed the deafening silence, it was soothing and calm to my spirit. As I turned a corner, I heard the sound of footsteps behind me. I was startled by the noise. I turned around averted my gaze towards the direction of the culprit that had just interrupted my peace. My jaw dropped as I saw Kael approaching me, his eyes fixed on mine."Arianna," he said, his voice low. "
Arianna’s POVI stood my ground, unyielding, as Elaine’s words hung in the air like a toxic fog. The cool breeze from the garden felt like an icy slap against my skin. I blinked, determined to grasp the reality of what she had just said, but my thoughts kept returning to Kael. His kiss—his touch—was etched in my memory. How could he kiss me if he was entangled with someone else? How could he betray me like this?Elaine faced me with eyes gleaming, a mix of malice and triumph dancing within them, like a predator that had just cornered its prey. I took a deep breath, my composure slipping, but I refused to let her see the storm of emotions brewing inside me."You're carrying his child?" I asked firmly, the weight of the question heavy yet resolute.Elaine nodded, the smugness on her face unwavering. "Yes," she declared, her voice filled with unwarranted pride. "You must be so naïve, Arianna. He has always belonged to me, and nothing will change that. Not even you."I clenched my fists,
Kael povKael’s strugleKael sat at the head of the table, the heavy weight of his title pressing on him like a physical force. The pack’s council room felt suffocating, the air thick with tension. The murmurs of discontent swirled around the room like a storm, and Kael could feel every set of eyes on him.“Alpha Kael, your leadership is being questioned,” came the voice of Elder Corwin, a sharp, cold presence within the pack. His eyes glinted with something dangerous as he stood at the edge of the table, arms folded across his chest. “You’ve allowed rogues to breach our borders and threaten our people. And yet, you act as though nothing is wrong. You’ve been absent. Distant. And this pack is suffering for it.”The words stung, though Kael kept his face impassive. He had heard these complaints before, but hearing them now, after everything that had happened with Arianna, was harder to swallow than ever.“I’ve been dealing with matters that concern the future of this pack,” Kael replie
Arianna pov The air was heavy, thick with the scent of rain that hadn’t yet fallen. But it wasn’t the weather that weighed on me. It was the burning ache in my chest. My gaze remained fixed on the distant sky, though I wasn't really looking at the clouds. I could feel the weight of them, dark and suffocating, swirling in my mind. Memories—betrayals, lies, and broken promises—rushed at me like a flood. Each moment carved into my heart like a sharp, cruel knife, and tears slipped down my cheeks unnoticed. Alpha Kael’s touch still lingered in my senses. His hands around my waist, pulling me closer to him. His kisses—gentle, soft at first, then more urgent, as if he couldn’t get enough. His breath on my skin. And then... Elaine. I couldn’t help but shudder at the thought. I took a deep breath and wiped my eyes, trying to regain some composure, but it didn’t help. I couldn’t stop the pounding ache in my chest. I was losing him, I knew it, but how could I ever truly let go? Suddenly, the
Elaine povI stood up from the couch, my eyes fixed on the mirror in my hand. The reflection staring back at me was twisted in anger, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at the thought of Arianna's pitiful state. I turned the mirror over in my hand, feeling the cool glass against my skin, and then I set it down on the table. With a swift motion, I smoothed out my dress, making sure I looked perfect. I had to make sure I was flawless, especially when I was about to stir up more trouble. I walked out of the room, my heels clicking against the floor, and made my way to Arianna's room.As I approached her door, I could hear the sound of muffled sobs coming from inside. I smiled to myself, feeling a sense of excitement at the prospect of causing more chaos. I pushed open the door and stepped inside, my eyes scanning the room until they landed on Arianna. She was lying on the bed, her ankle propped up on a pillow, and her face was red and puffy from crying. I felt a pang of
Elaine POVThe air in the room was thick with tension, a weight that I couldn’t ignore. Kael stood beside the large, mahogany desk, his fingers lightly tapping against the smooth surface, his eyes focused—not on the matter at hand, but on the woman who had entered to bring him a report.I could feel the heat rise in my chest, slowly suffocating me. The woman was tall, her brown hair cascading down her shoulder, soft waves that seemed to glimmer under the dim light of the room. She had this aura about her, graceful and composed, everything I wasn't. And Kael? He was staring at her like she was the only thing in the world. His eyes, dark and brooding, lingered on her every movement, drinking in every word that left her lips.Disrespect. It burned through me like wildfire.I could hear her voice, light and professional, explaining something about the pack dynamics—something that should have been irrelevant to me at the moment. But how could I focus on that when Kael wasn’t even acknowled
Arianna's POVI didn’t expect him to follow me.The ballroom had been alive with chatter, a blur of elegance, but none of it had mattered. All I could think about was him—Kael. The man whose name burned like a secret on the tip of my tongue. I hadn’t intended to reveal myself, not like this. But here I was, slipping away into the shadows of the night, my heart beating in erratic sync with the rush of cold air.I thought I’d escape. Just leave the mask behind, disappear into the garden, and perhaps never return. But the moment he stepped into the garden, I knew—knew—that there was no running from him. Not anymore. My breath came in shallow gasps, the tension between us thick, palpable, as the moments stretched out in silence. I could hear my heart in my ears, feel the blood rushing through me, pounding against my chest, each beat louder than the last. The wind swept through the trees, carrying with it a quiet rustle, but it felt as though the world had stopped.I didn’t know what I exp
Kael’s POVThe flicker of candlelight danced across the grand hall, casting long shadows against the stone walls, and the air hummed with the soft sound of clinking glasses and whispered gossip. The ballroom was in full swing, a swirl of elegance and mystery, yet my thoughts were far from the opulent revelry surrounding me.I stepped into the hall with the same confidences that I always did—untouchable, an enigma wrapped in a suit as dark as the storm I carried inside. My eyes quickly found her. She was there, across the room, her figure a soft silhouette in a sea of strangers. Her gaze was intent, searching, moving with purpose even as the crowd tried to distract her. I’d known the moment I saw her that she wasn’t here to enjoy the music or the wine. No, she had her own agenda. But whatever it was, I knew I wasn’t going to stand in her way. She was searching for something—someone—but I couldn’t tell if it was for me or against me. And frankly, I didn’t care. At least not right now.W
Elaine povIt was the Royal Night, the one event everyone had been eagerly awaiting. The chandelier overhead cast a soft golden glow, filling the grand ballroom with warmth and elegance. The tall marble columns and intricate tapestries lining the walls seemed to blend with the murmurs of laughter and clinking glasses. Tonight was special. Not just because of the regal atmosphere, but because tonight, everyone wore a mask. A symbol of secrecy, mystery, and maybe even a little bit of magic.I adjusted the mask on my face, the dark feathers brushing against my cheek as I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the massive mirror beside me. My dress shimmered in the light, a deep shade of midnight blue that seemed to shift as I moved. It was a fitted bodice that flared out at the waist, layers of fabric that rippled like water when I walked. The gold accents along the neckline and cuffs gleamed in the soft light, each piece sewn with the precision of a royal tailor. The dress made me feel li
Alexander's POVI stood there, watching as my sister crawled on the cold, unforgiving floor, begging for attention like some discarded thing. Every instinct I had screamed to protect her, to shield her from the pain that Alpha Kael had so cruelly caused. My heart pounded with a fury that made my hands shake, and the rage coursing through me was like fire, hot and consuming."Arianna, get the fuck up from the floor!" I barked, my voice harsh, more from anger than anything else. I couldn’t stand it. I grabbed her arms, yanking her to her feet, dragging her along as her small frame felt too fragile under my touch. I could feel the tremor in her body, the weight of her sorrow sinking deep into my own chest. Each step I took, I could feel my blood boiling. Kael had humiliated her in front of everyone, and I wanted nothing more than to knock the smug look off his face. But I knew I had no right to do that—not yet. My anger made everything else blur around me, and all I wanted to do was make
Arianna's POV“Stop talking, please!” The words were choked, bitter, and barely a whisper, but they held the weight of every tear I had been holding in for hours. My fingers curled into fists, nails biting into my palm as I stood frozen at the doorpost, my heart hammering in my chest. The air was thick with the stench of betrayal, and I could taste it on the back of my throat. I wanted to scream, to throw something, anything at him, but how could I when I saw how broken Kael looked? His jaw clenched in fury, his face twisted in ways I had never seen before, and yet, I couldn’t move. I couldn’t even speak. His eyes were cold—dead—when they met mine. They had always been so warm, so full of fire.“You betrayed me, Arianna,” he muttered, voice low but dripping with venom. “I would’ve let them sacrifice you. You’re just like every other woman—entitled, selfish, always seeking the next thing without understanding the consequences.” His voice broke, and I saw the anger twist into something
Kael’s POVThe door slammed shut behind her with a finality that echoed through the room. I didn’t move, didn’t breathe. My mind was still reeling, struggling to process what had just happened—what she had just said. I could still feel her fingers on my chest, her breath in my ear, and worse, the taste of her lips on mine. What the hell was wrong with me?She’d come in like a storm, twisting everything in her wake, pushing me to the brink. I should’ve pushed her away. I should’ve thrown her out and told her to get lost. But instead, I stood there, letting her take the whiskey from my hands, letting her manipulate me like I was some helpless fool. But the worst part? The worst part was that I wanted her.She had said everything she knew would hurt the most—every word calculated to break me, to twist the knife deeper. And damn it, it worked. Arianna kissing Dorian? The thought alone made my stomach churn. I had seen the way she looked at him, the way their gazes lingered longer than the
I stood in front of Alpha Kael's door, my breath steady but my pulse quickening. My fingers curled tightly around the brass knocker, and I gave the door a firm rap, each knock echoing through the silence of the hallway. A small smile tugged at my lips as I waited, the anticipation building like a sweet poison in my veins.Kael, I know you're in there.I didn’t have to be here, not like this. But after everything—after all the times he rejected me, chose Arianna, I could feel something inside me shift. He needed to understand. He needed to know who really held the power in this pack. Who he had overlooked.I knocked again, harder this time. The door was unyielding, but I was used to obstacles. I didn’t back down from them. Not anymore. For a brief moment, I wondered what was taking him so long. Was he in there drinking? Getting lost in his own frustration? Maybe I would find him exactly how I imagined—disheveled, disoriented, and, finally, vulnerable.Just when I thought I might break
Arianna's POV The coldness of the floor beneath me seeped through the thin fabric of my clothes, but I didn’t care. It was the only thing that kept me grounded. I curled tighter, my arms wrapped around my knees as I sobbed, the tears flowing freely down my face like an endless river. I wanted to scream, to yell at the world for being so unfair. But no sound escaped my lips. Instead, I let the heavy silence surround me, a stark contrast to the storm raging inside. The ritual had been everything. Everything I had been waiting for, everything I had worked for. And now... now it was gone. It was as if someone had stolen the very ground I stood on, and I was left with nothing but this aching emptiness. Alpha Kael had canceled the ritual, and for what? To keep his precious little secret intact, to keep his own hidden fears and insecurities safe. But that wasn’t the worst part. No, the worst part was the lie. The lie someone had spread about me being sick—sick enough to not be able to com
Kael’s POVI paced back and forth in my room, the silence of the space doing nothing to quell the storm building inside me. My hands were trembling, my chest tight with the weight of what had happened, what was still to come. The moonlight streamed through the window, casting long, cold shadows across the floor, but it didn’t help. Nothing helped. Not the quiet of the night, not the pulse of the ritual still lingering in the air. Not the bitter taste of betrayal that still clung to my mouth.I had never felt like this before—this out-of-control surge of emotion. It was a relentless current pulling me under.I stopped pacing and ran my hands through my hair, gripping the strands in frustration. What the hell was I supposed to do now? I had defied my pack, my father, the elders—everything I had ever been taught, everything I had ever believed. And for what? Arianna. But was it enough? My eyes flickered to the door, and without thinking, I moved toward it. I needed to lock it. To ensure
