On The Run

After school that day, I was driven home by Sylvain. Elizabeth's mother had been the one to drive me to school this morning, but my 'vampire knight'—as Elizabeth called him— decided to take me back home himself.

Once we'd gotten out of the school and onto the road, Sylvain glanced at me and asked. "So... You never told me about why you and that mate of yours broke up in the first place."

My heart clenched just then. I turned my gaze to him, smiling awkwardly.

"It's fine, Sylvain. We don't have to talk about –" I was about to wave the issue away but he interrupted me.

"But I want to talk about it." He paused, swerving his head to me until all I could look at was his deep golden eyes. "He's your mate, after all. And while I may not relate to the complexities of your race's relationship dynamics, I can say that you and I are at least..."

Once again, he paused, placing his gaze back on the road and squinting his eyes as if he were thinking of something. But after a while, he continued.
