Birthday Girl

"Stop with the unnecessary flattering." I gushed as I got closer.

I'd worn a form-fitting, handless satin red gown that hugged my body. It was tight, but I wanted to look 'hot' for my birthday. Besides, Dad said I could wear anything I wanted today.

Anyway, I grabbed Carlos by the wrist and dragged him away from his gathering of friends after saying hi to them.

"Hey, what gives?" He grumbled as soon as I got him to the center of the dance floor.

"Have you seen my Dad?" I asked, glancing around. "He's supposed to be here, obviously and it's almost time for his speech."

My father had promised to give a speech tonight, much to my dismay. But now I couldn't find him and the party was already getting heated.

Anyway, Carlos shrugged. "I haven't seen him since lunch at your place this afternoon." He yelled through the music before pausing. He began bobbing his head to the music playing and screeched. "Gosh, they're playing Chappell Roan's 'Good Luck, Babe."
