Helen's POV

I was still reeling in shock from the doctor's news to me. I held the test results in my hands but still could not believe it.

I was pregnant, I was really pregnant! This had been the reason for the weird way I had been feeling going on for some weeks now.

“Yes ma’am.” The doctor beamed. “The tests do not lie.”

The doctor was still smiling as I took my leave. He should have been used to announcing such news to people by now so why did he seem so glad about it?

I found myself mirroring the doctor's smile once I got out of his office, clutching the test results so tight.

I could not believe it. The father of my child was none other than Alpha Damian, our powerful pack leader. Alpha Damian for some years now had been desperate to have a child and no woman had been successful enough, but here I was now, bearing the good news.

The taxi ride home had me lost in thoughts as the car flew past the road to the Alpha's house. It could be said it was my home also as I lived with the Alpha…as his slave.

And no, this wasn't because he was evil, he might be cruel and such but Alpha Damian had saved my life. Few years ago, my once perfect life had been ruined when my father betrayed the pack by communicating and leaking important information to members of a rival pack.

He was sentenced to execution by the alpha of then, Alpha Damian's father. As for the rest of our pack members, most of them believed that my father's only child, his quiet, weak-willed, omega of a daughter, was just as guilty as he was. They wanted me to be executed also, to completely get rid of my family as my mother passed away when I was a few weeks old.

That is where Damian had swung in. He had demanded of his father that he could make me pay better for my father's crime by turning me into a slave for himself.

He did not show it but I just knew that Alpha Damian was opposed to having me killed and sought the best possible option to keep me alive, because Alpha Damian would not need me, he would in no way lack servants in his home.

I was grateful and would always be, and if my way of repaying him was by being a servant to him and warming his bed when necessary, then I did not mind.

Tears rolled down my eyes, but they were happy tears as I ignored the concerned look from the taxi driver and looked outside the window at the setting sun.

I was hopelessly in love with Alpha Damian, even if he would never spare me a second glance once he had his satisfaction with me.

I loved him so much it ached to see him with other women, acting like the intimacy we shared was nothing. He was the only man I had ever known and I had never given up on hoping that one day he would see me differently and care for me.

My hope soared now as I sat in the car. I was with his child now. I was going to give him that pup he had been after for so many years. Perhaps this will be enough for him to love me, to treat me better.

Once the taxi pulled to a stop at his house, I hopped out of it and wiped my tears, folding the test result and tucking it in the back pocket of the jeans I had on.

It was dark now and the moon had risen fully. Excitement bubbled inside of me as I walked towards the building. I felt so privileged to be carrying an heir to our pack, Moon City pack. I could not wait to announce the news to him.

I stopped briefly at the top of the big mansion, placing my hand on my belly. The house was alight with bright bulbs twinkling in most of the rooms. With a huge smile, I stepped forward and crossed the threshold into the house.

Alpha Damian was relaxed on the couch in the living room. And someone else was there also. His on and off girlfriend, Liana. Worst of all, their limbs were entangled together in the couch and Alpha Damian had his hand over her shoulder, holding her securely towards himself.

The TV was on, blaring out the evening news and they were whispering to each other and exchanging secret smiles. They were too engrossed in themselves to even notice my presence. My excitement died down, quickly replaced by bitter jealousy which left a bad taste in my mouth.

So they had gotten back together? When did it happen? I knew they had a serious fight over the phone three weeks ago and after that, Liana had not shown her face in the house at all.

There was no way I was going to announce my news to him like this. I had no idea if the Alpha would want people to know immediately of his unborn pup.

I cleared my throat and successfully caught their attention. Alpha Damian reached for the remote with his free hand and tuned down the volume.

“You've been out for long, Helen. I had to send my Beta after you just to be sure you weren't getting ideas.”

His Beta? I had not seen his Beta Karl anywhere. And what did he mean by me getting ideas?

I lowered my head. “Ideas?” I asked.

“Yes. Like thinking of escaping maybe. I don't need to tell you that immediate death would be the penalty for that if you're caught.”

Did he think I wasn't aware of that?

“I'm sorry, Alpha, I was just feeling unwell and went for a check up.”

“I see. Well, have the spare room cleaned up right now. Helen here will be staying for a while. Nine months likely.” He turned to her with a broad, genuine smile, a way I wished he would look at me someday.

Helen returned the smile he gave her, and snuggled even closer to him if that was possible.

My head spun as I tried to make sense of the statement from him. What was going on? Nine months…it couldn't be.. could it?

“What are you still waiting for?” Helen's sharp voice cut into my thoughts. “Get into action.”

Alpha Damian turned to me, his eyes cold and hard. “Whatever Helen needs, you give her immediately and show her respect. This is the mother of my child and soon to be Luna.” He turned to look at her once more, the frostiness in his eyes melting. “The moon goddess has finally answered my prayers.”

Mother of my child… She was pregnant? I felt immediately weak, my heart coming to a stop as the word ‘pregnant’ floated around in my head.

“S-She's –?” I began in a shaky voice. What was going on? Helen pregnant? No way was this happening.

“You heard right.” Helen replied sweetly but her eyes were throwing daggers at me. “Got a problem with that?”

Alpha Damian was looking sharply at me also, watching my reaction.

“N-no. Of course not.” I mustered a false smile even though my heart was bleeding. “Congratulations to you both.”

“Good.” The Alpha nodded. “Now off you go.”

He really didn't see me as anything. The thought made me mourn for myself and my unborn baby.

At that moment, his Beta strode into the room. His expression was grave and when our eyes met, he gave me a look filled with great mistrust. I found this difficult to understand. His usual way was ignoring my existence, what could I have done to him?

The sorrow I felt was so overwhelming that I couldn't bring myself to figure out what was up with him. I hurried out of their sights as Alpha Damian began questioning Beta Karl, carrying my broken heart with me.
