LILA POV He still sounded off. “Are you sure you're fine?” “Oh, yes, Lila. I'm doing very well.”“Then why haven't you called me for three days? Don't you miss me or something?” I could now hear the sound of his fest pacing the room. “Lila, I have many things to do in case you don't know or have forgotten,” he said this time and I didn't know how to feel about it. “You know fully well that I am the next in line with many responsibilities to attend to. I can't be phoning you all day, especially when I am less busy. Don't you know that?” “I—I do—” I muttered, even though I didn't want to. “That's alright, Rune. I was only calling to check in on you, but I have a question I'd like to ask you also. Do you mind me asking you, Alpha Rune? Or are you so busy that you can't attend to me in the meantime? I will have to let you be.” “I have some time to spare, Lila. What do you want to ask me?” Settling on the bed, I figured out a way to ask my question without sounding very desperate.
LILA POV The day to begin with my task came. It was early in the morning when I woke up with a slight headache, turned on the bed, and made up my mind to stand on my feet which I did. A hand on the door caught my attention. “Lila. Don't tell me you're asleep at this time of the morning. I know it's not too late to still be sleeping but you know that you have something to do.” “Mother!” I took the duvet off my body and jumped on my feet. “I'll get ready and join you in the dining hall soon.” I walked to the wardrobe so that I could take a towel in advance as I got ready to take a bath. When in the bathroom, there was nothing I didn't think about. Many thoughts ran around in my head as I wondered if it was alright to anticipate hurt from the man I was in love with. Was this even the right thing to do? I wondered over and over and over again while scrubbing my back as I looked at myself in the mirror. What if I was about to encounter the worst hurt of my life? I thought, turning
RAVEN POV The weekend came again. No, it was a Friday and a few hours to the end of work when Mr. Johnson sent a text to me. Again? The sight of his message made my heart jump and I didn't know if I should be happy or not. “Hello?!” “Yes!” I snapped out of my thoughts and met the gaze of Jane. “I have a feeling I have done something wrong again. Mr. Johnson sent a message. He wants us to see. Do you think that's a good message?” “Oh, come on. Mrs. Raven!” She sat on the chair opposite mine. “You know you should get going before he texts again. Mr. Johnson doesn't have a good temper in case you haven't noticed that, yet. So—!” She got on her feet and caught up with mine. “I'll handle your tasks while you're away.”Reluctantly, I got on my feet. “I'll be back,” I said and walked to the door. Walking out, my heart started to beat. Even my wolf reacted greatly to everything around me, but it was calm when I reached the door of the manager's office. “Hello, Mr. Johnson.” I knocked
RUNE POV It's been a long time since I left the pack. There was nothing important to do outside the pack and I preferred watching Aella with my eyes, rather than asking one of the men to keep an eye on her. They would do a good job, but not exactly what I know I want them to do. “Good morning, my lord.” The sound of a woman's voice made me look up. “Good morning, maid. Drop the tray and walk away. I'm sure you know what to do or don't you?” She nodded, did as she was supposed to, but did not walk away. I didn't care. I would care more if it was Aella but she wasn't the one. Rather, it was some maid who would not help with any information I needed so I wanted her out of my room. “My lord.”Looking up, with anger written on my face, I asked. “Well, do you want something? I don't recall asking you to feed me, or did I?” I asked the woman who shook her head, bowing the next moment. “So what do you want?” “The Luna,” she said with a bow. “My Luna says she wants to speak with you as
RUNE POV “Rune.” Turning around, I met her gaze. “Yes, Mother?” “Come here.”I changed my direction, leading my way to the table once more. Did she need something? Or was this a call to remind me about the wrongs I have done? I wondered with a sigh running out of my mouth, although only I could hear it. “Do you want something, Mother?” She shook her head. “Not really. I wanted to ask about your whereabouts. Do you have an appointment?” She asked me who looked at her, uncertain about what to say. “Is there someone you're going to see?” I didn't know what to say, not because I didn't have an answer but because I didn't know how to go about this question. “Mother, it's nothing serious, you know?” I touched her face. “I need to get some stuff from the market and that's all.” I assured her before walking back to the door of my chamber. She was still staring at me when I turned around and I walked into the chamber before any other thing. Inside the space, I heaved a sigh. Reaching fo
LILA POV Finally! The moment I was waiting for was here. A smile on my face forced my hand to relax on the sterling. Where was he going? Wait. There was something I noticed and didn't bother taking notes of. A car drove past me a while ago. It was definitely from the pack. No other cars had such designs in the Estate, according to what I know. That was who? Setting my key in motion, I started the ride. Rune was ahead of me but I slowed down so that I was not caught. Where was he going? It didn't look like he was going on his own, to someplace. It looked like he was following the person who drove past me before he did. Picking up my phone, I dialed Mother. “I'm on my way,” I announced when the call was taken. “I think I have him. I do, Mother. He's on his way to someplace and I'm behind him but not directly.” “Fair enough.” Without waiting to hear what she could have to say next, I ended the call and went about my ride. I could lose track of him if he left my side, and that w
RAVEN POV “This works.” Aella gave a nod. Since we got to the boutique, it was anything I preferred she agreed with. “Do you always have to agree, Aella?” At some point, I couldn't hold back my thoughts so I asked the question. “Take another cart and go picking. I'll filter them when we're ready to pay and leave, mm?” Happily, she gave a nod and started to walk away. The next time I saw her, she walked past me and headed to a section of socks - what I believe we needed. Winter was coming and the babies would be needing as many socks as possible. The thought of having them in less than three months brought a smile to my face. It was high time I went for my next appointment, and it happened to be tomorrow. Just when I wanted to move again, I looked up and it looked like there was a gaze I met, but this person was gone from my sight. Was I imagining things? Of course not. I held the handle of the cart and started to walk again, smiling with the many thoughts running around my head
LILA POV It was hard. Very hard to believe what I had seen. Who would think that Rune would go after her after all that he's done to make her a sad woman? I hated him so much for making me look so stupid. What was he trying to do? Make me go through another series of hurt and pain? More tears ran down my face and I heaved a sigh, over and over and over again - not knowing what to do and how to go about it. “Take this.” It was Mother. She came into my room with a mug of tea she believed would cure my hurting heart. “It'll help calm the mood.” Taking a seat on the bed and next to me, she added. I believed it was a lie, and I also didn't mind trying. I needed to heal from what I had seen. If possible, forget everything I saw back there yesterday. “Mother, he looked so desperate to speak with her. Why do I feel so stupid? I should have known he'd go back to get her. Take a look at me and see how I lose.” The older woman chuckled. “Did you say lose? Of course not. You haven't lost an
RAVEN POV “Isn't it late at night to be here?” Opening the door, there was Aella in my apartment. “Come on in. I'm sure you're cold.” I mouthed as I opened the door even wider, watching her walk into the space with a smile that was evergreen on her face. “Good evening, my lady.” I shut the door. Turned around and caught up with the couch she was seated on. “Not so fast. Is everything okay over there at the pack? Why are you here? You keep scaring me so much and I don't think I like it.” “My lady,” she looked at me. “There is nothing wrong if you must know. I just came to spend some time with you. I haven't done that since the operation for all that I can recall. How are you doing?” Relieved, I heaved a sigh. And just then, her eyes reached my stomach. “My goodness. It's bigger than I thought it'd be!” Crying, she adjusted on the chair, dropping her purse on the floor. “You look good on it too. You are still as beautiful as always if you know what I mean.” “I don't feel bet
RUNE POVThe man by the gate hailed while I led my way into the compound - headed for the lot. After I parked, I hopped down and led my way straight to the living room, falling on the chair and heaving another tired sigh. It was a good thing to finally be home. Away from the wolves and one particular man who annoyed the hell out of me. What does he even want? Heaving a sigh, I snapped my fingers and a maid showed up. “My lord.” I looked at her face, realizing it was none other maid than Aella who smiled at me. “What can I offer you? Do you need water?” Bowing again, she looked at me while I sat up, thinking about words to say to the woman. What could she offer me? Like she didn't know what I wanted to be offered? But how could I spell it in block letters that I wanted my wife back in my life? “I want water,” after a while of thinking, I let out and offered back the smile she was offering. “Not so cold. Not so hot. You know what I mean, don't you?” “Yes, my lord.”I was left alone
RUNE POV I walked past the gate leading into the camp when my gaze caught someone's. It's been over two weeks of training the wolves and I had yet to say a word to a man I have tagged an enemy. What would he have me say to him? “Good morning, Mr. Rune.” It was a student who called. She had a smile on her face and my lips widened, the grimace leaving my countenance. “Good morning, dearest wolf. How are you doing today?” I walked and she was by my side, offering to take my bag but there was me who shook my head. “I can handle it, you have nothing at all to worry about.” In moments, she was out of my side and there was me who led my way past the space with many wolves in it. They offered more greetings while I just walked away, heading to the general office for trainers like myself who had arrived. “Good morning,” I greeted the man from two weeks ago. “I have arrived.” Sarcastically, I mouthed and kept walking. “Where are the others?” Stopping in my tracks, I turned to look at the
LILA POV I was seated on the veranda, sipping juice from a glass when a maid walked out of the house. She had an apron on and this could only mean that she was supposed to be on duty. So why was she outside? Looking to my left, I figured out that it was Aella. How long would she keep doing this? As a matter of fact, it wasn't the first time I would see her leave the house with her phone in hand. The unfortunate thing was me not being close to the spot when it was happening. Now, I wanted to know what was behind it. Jumping on my feet, I acted like I didn't care. Of course, I did. Deep down inside of me but what could I do? I needed to know what she was up to before making plans to send her away from the pack. It was something I wanted to do so badly. According to my thoughts, this woman led the man I love to see a woman he should never set his eyes on. What could she not do? I caught up with a block and tried to listen to what she said to whoever it was, over the phone. “My la
RAVEN POV Lunchtime. Taking out the food from the bag I came with, I knew I needed to take a break. There was more than a lot going through my head at this point, but what could I do? I simply relaxed my back on the chair and opened the plate of food. And it was at this moment that I noticed something strange happening to the meal. Not the meal, but the office in total. What was I thinking? A piece of paper fell off the plate packaging, catching my attention. What could I do or say? I looked at the floor, wanting to be certain that I wasn't imagining things. There was a piece of paper. Confirming this, I looked around as though it wasn't my office anymore. And now I bent low so that my hand could reach it, snatching it from the ground and meeting the gaze of whatever was in the piece. “I know I haven't done well for myself or even you, Raven. But I look forward to the day we get to spend time with each other again. And I promise I'll treat you right, and not the wrong way I
RAVEN POV With time, I recovered fully. My stomach on the other hand got bigger by the day, and I didn't think for a moment that it would stop because, from the look of things, there was more to come. Another Monday morning arrived. This was the point when I got out of bed so that I could take my bath and be ready for work. There was not much difference in my body and somehow, I seemed to like this more than the other. Despite the size.It was still Rune's fault, wasn't it? Why can't I leave him out of my thoughts? Anger was the right word for how I felt when I snatched the towel from the bed and walked into the bathroom for my bath. Soon enough, I was standing in front of a mirror - wondering what outfit exactly was good to use for the purpose of my work on this day. A smile came alive on my face when I figured it out. I didn't stop smiling for one moment, but caught up with the wardrobe, opened it, and caught sight of the outfit I needed to look for. How ready was I to be th
RUNE POV So why did Mother and Father give me that look? I wasn't done with my food but at this point, I was more than ready to abandon it and walk back to my room. With a smile I didn't know how it looked, plastered on my face, I looked at my parents once more. “Is there any problem?” They looked at each other before looking at me again. “Why do you ask, son? Did we say there was a problem?” He looked at his wife and back at me. “We were only looking at you. Does that make a problem exist?” A sigh. A scoff. What did these people want from me? This was the reason why I couldn't tell them about my love for Raven. How could I, when they warned me so much from the onset? “Alright,” I chewed on a chunk of meat and gave a nod. “I hear you, Mother and Father.” Mother cleared her throat. “We just hope you're not planning to bring another woman into this pack, Rune,” she said with a smile I considered fake. “I'm sure you know we've had enough of your saga with the other gender. I mig
LILA POV There was no way I'd let him do something like that to not just himself, but me also. How could he? It was another morning after the last morning since we saw each other. And Rune was yet to say a word to me. Not because he didn't have words to say, but because we didn't get to set eyes on each other. “Good morning, my lady.” The guards and maids who were not far from the door of my room, greeted me as soon as I walked in. “Shall I do something for you this morning, my lady?” One of them asked while there was me who shook my head. What could she possibly do? I didn't need the regular help as it stands. What I needed was help to get back the man I love for myself. And how could they help me with that too? I looked ahead of me after shaking my head a second time, catching up with the dining table where the Alpha was seated. So where was Luna Elizabeth? “Good morning, Father.” The old man looked up from the screen of his phone. At the sight of me, he smiled and I gave a
LILA POV My car was parked in the lot of The Illeth Pack in the morning. I reached for the entrance and ignored the greetings of the men by the door. “Is the young Alpha in? It's him I've come to see. Don't waste my time.” The men looked at themselves and one looked at me this time. “My young Alpha is in, my lady. But you can't disturb his sleep at this time of the morning. He came back very late last night and needs all the rest he can get before leaving again this morning.” What were they saying? Why should I care if the young Alpha was sleeping or not? I had come to stay in the pack just as Mother advised and maybe talk to him about his change. Didn't I wake up early this morning to prepare to be here? I looked at the men, pushed one aside, and walked to the door of my room. When I walked into the space, it was cleaned. In confusion, I turned around and looked at the door. Does it mean they've been expecting me long before now? With a smile on my face, I became more calm and
