Chapter One: In The Woods.

“DID you already have a gown to wear this evening?”

I was snapped from what I am doing when Lola suddenly asked me about the gown. Tonight was the engagement party of Alpha Magnus and Luna Alice. I was invited to their engagement party that I didn’t really expect. To be honest, my mind was still battling whether I’ll go or not because I know that humans and werewolves there are high-profile while I was just a human elementary teacher in West Verlice. I am not that special, but because Alpha Magnus was the one who invited me, I can’t decline his request.

“Oh no! I almost forgot!” I squirmed then stood up from my seat. “Come on, let’s go and help me find something decent.”

“You should go. You want to know what they wanted to tell you, right?” she asked.

Lola shook her head as she started to clean her table. If it weren’t because of her, I would probably forgot about it. Last week when they came to personally invite me, Alpha Magnus told me that he has something to tell. To be honest, I don’t have any idea on what it may be. It has been a year ever since a Lycan bites me and I almost lost my life. If it weren’t because of Alpha Magnus, I would’ve been dead by now. Ever since he saved my life, he never stopped visiting me together with Luna Alice. I didn’t know why… but I haven’t felt anything weird.

We left school earlier than we used to. Lola and I are both elementary teachers at West Verlice Elementary. It is a public school that human children can attend while there is a private school for werewolves but they are far from the school we are working. Younger werewolves are still working on their control to not attack humans that’s why they are separated. Only werewolves of legal age are allowed to step in our boundary.

We went straight to a small boutique. There are few gowns to choose from and I don’t have much time so it is fine whichever gown to wear. I chose a simple light blue tube gown with few sequences on the chest part. The gown was long enough to cover my feet so I decided to buy a pair of shoes than high-heels. But then when I was about to get the shoes, Lola stopped me.

“How could you wear that kind of shoes when you’re wearing a gown?”

Shooking my head, I snatched the shoes back from her. “LOL, the gown will cover my feet, what’s the purpose of choosing high-heels? I should choose the comfortable one.”

“Holly!”

I almost jumped out of shock when she suddenly yelled at me. “What the heck?”

“It is a once-in-a-lifetime moment! How could you?”

After we bought my gown and stiletto for tonight's party, we went straight to my house. I told her to go home since her mother might get mad if she ever comes home late but then she insisted on helping me to put on makeup. Well, I am not good when it comes to makeup so it is much of a help for me.

“You don't have to worry. I just want you to become more decent once you get there,” she replied. “I’m afraid if ever an Alpha or a Beta will introduce to you, they might not get impressed by you.”

“Do you really think they'll set me up to an Alpha or Beta? I am just a simple human—”

“Correction Holly, Alpha and Luna are very fond of you after what happened last year. So I guess that makes you special. Do not doubt yourself! Don't show that kind of attitude once you are facing them. Make sure you’ll show them your confidence!”

I just smiled at her and she continued doing my make up. When Lola was satisfied with my look, we decided to get out of my house. Macon's already waiting for me outside the gate. He’s leaning on his black car while looking at his wristwatch.

Macon is Alpha Magnus’ Beta. I’ve met him once every week because he always checks on each household.

“Do you have any idea what they were going to tell me?” I asked.

Macon is a quiet type of werewolf and I’m not used to that.

“Just wait until we get there. I can't tell you,” he replied coldly. “But whatever happens… I hope you still choose whichever life you want.”

Hearing those from him, I think it is kind of like what Lola told me. That I will be set up to be an Alpha, Beta, or maybe someone that has a high position.

We were in the middle of the woods when the car suddenly stopped.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Shit! I don’t know,” he replied. He tried to restart the engine but it’s not working. “Wait here, I’ll check.”

I nodded and let him went out of the car. Right when he saw what happened, I heard him cursed loudly. Confused, I went out to see what it is only to find out that the tire was broken.

“I don't have a spare tire,” he said. “Don’t worry, there's a shop here. I’ll go there, wait for me.”

He has no choice but to leave me here and go to the nearby shop to get some help. Not too long after he walked out, I rubbed both my arms because of cold. So I decided to go back inside the car, but when I was about to open the car, a cold breeze of air made me shiver. Instinctively, I turned my head to look around the woods. I swallowed harshly as my chest started to pound. The cold air made me remember what happened the night that I was attacked by an unknown Lycan.

Shaking my head to forget it, my eyes widened when I heard some footsteps. I was stunned there, waiting for someone or something to come out from nowhere. I know I should hide now but my chest was pounding so hard and my body was so cold that I couldn't even move an inch.

“M-macon?” I asked, hoping that it was just him.

But then, it is impossible since he just left!

“M-macon! D-don’t make me feel nervous!”

Footsteps started to become louder, and it is approaching me.

“M-macon—who are you?”

The silhouette of a man made my heart feel enlightened. It wasn't a beast!

He’s still walking towards me. I was about to feel relieved that it wasn't a Lycan but then, when he stepped closer to me and I saw him through the moonlight, I saw his eyes flickered from yellow to red and then when he blinked, it turned yellow again. Seeing his eyes made me tremble.

“W-who are you?”

I panicked, trying to find the way to open the car’s door but not long after, in a quick move, he was now in front of me, glaring like he was really mad.

“Y-you’re a Lycan! Don’t touch me! You know there’s a law in the West—”

I stopped in the middle of talking when he sniffed and then grabbed my left shoulder. His hairy palm feared me. Without blinking, I looked at how his eyes glowed red just by seeing the scar on my back.

“Finally, I got you…” he murmured.
