Thirty Seven

Those words went through every marrow of my body, making me so chill. Mike was struggling to control his emotions from what I could see. I didn’t know what to say. It was as if my tongue got tied. Mike sat back on the bed, and slowly pulled himself up the bed. I rushed towards him, and tried to help him, but he turned away from me, his face stuck in a grimace. “I can take care of myself. Leave me for a moment,” he said sternly, despite the pain he was feeling. The man was something else. Jeez! I took one last look at him, and then slowly left his room. I knew he was slightly upset about his outburst, but it wasn’t my fault if he felt the way he did. There was seriously nothing I could do about it. But, still I felt so guilty for some reason.
