Chapter 1.

Freda's POV.

"Get me, Freda Anderson now," I heard the chief physician yell from his office. I was already at his office door and was about to knock. I knew I was in trouble due to the incident that happened earlier, so I had to bring myself to his office before he would tell Vivian to do so.

A patient nearly lost her life due to a lack of the medication my team was supposed to administer to her.

I had earlier smelled there would be a big problem because of it and as usual, I would be blamed. I'm always to be blamed whenever anything goes wrong with my team even though I'm not the head of my team, I was the least important person among them.

I stretched forth my hand to knock on the door but on a second thought, I retreated my hand and took a deep breath.

I knew he would yell and say hurtful things as usual and after that, I would cry in the restroom whenever he was done yelling at me.

I knew that today won't be any different from other days but I still put up a smile, ready to face it as I had always done.

I finally made up my mind to go right in to face him, I was already getting used to his behavior towards me, it wasn't a new thing. I stretched forth my hand at the count of six but before my hand could grasp the door handle, it opened.

I looked up, my eyes met with that of Vivian Donaldson, she had a smile on her lips as usual, she was also on my team and had been a thorn in my flesh, whenever it got to her turn to attend to the patients assigned to us, she would always neglect her duties and have all the blames put on me.

I couldn't blame her much, she was the Chief physician's Mistress and sweetheart. Every one of us knew about it.

"Oh wow! Guess who is here already. I think she knows that she had made her usual mistake again and surprisingly, this time, she didn't even wait for anyone to invite her over before she showed up," she said to me with a mocking smile.

I was already boiling inside of me but I dare not show it if I don't want to worsen the situation.

"Hey Vivian, is Mr. Adams in?" I asked and pretended like I didn't hear what she had said.

"Of course, I was about to come to look for you but I think it's best as you show up yourself. You can come right in," she said and moved away from the door.

I didn't say anything else and walked in, she closed the door and joined me. We silently started heading towards Adam's desk, it was at the end of his large office. I could hear her murmur offensive words but I acted like I wasn't hearing anything, I acted unperturbed and undisturbed.

I acted like I wasn't scared nor bothered about what I was going to face but within me, I was already shivering and praying that someone would save me from going through another series of hurtful words which would leave me shattered and emotionally down again.

I didn't want to break down at this period of my life.

As we got closer to his desk, I saw him sitting down while flipping through some documents, scattered on his desk.

"Good day Mr. Adams," I said as we approached his desk. I bowed my head, avoiding his eyes.

"What is good about the day, you lousy doctor? Like I had always said, you ain't supposed to be in the medical field. The likes of you are supposed to live in the streets, running small kiosks or begging to feed, that's the kind of circumstances life is supposed to put you in," he said in his usual arrogant voice.

I felt myself shaking that instant like I always do, I couldn't even put myself together to swallow what he had said. I thought I was strong enough to do so today but I was wrong, I still felt so hurt like I always do on other days.

"I'm sorry for what happened, I wasn't the one in charge of the patient who almost lost her life, " I remembered Mrs. Smith putting Vivian in charge of her. I had to go attend to other pati_"

"Shut up, you liar," he yelled and that instant, I heard Vivian smirk. I looked up at her and saw a victorious smile on her face.

This made me remember the day, she promised to make my life hell here all because she did something wrong and I refused to take the blame. I bet she was already on it, fulfilling her promise.

"Why do you have to keep on lying and looking for excuses all the time, Freda?" Mr. Adams asked me.

"I'm not lying Sir, you can ask Mrs. Smith_"

"Keep quiet and never dare to interrupt me whenever I'm talking if you don't want to be kicked out of this hospital," he yelled with anger.

I swallowed hard and looked away.

"Vivian was with me all through the day, she was helping me sort out way more important documents. How dare you drag her into this?" He thundered.

I kept quiet, refusing to talk to say anything in defense. I knew he was lying but I couldn't do anything to defend myself, he was the boss and I'm just a mere employee.

"You have failed to do your duty today too. This is not the first time nor the second or the third. I have to punish you this time, so you don't joke with any patient assigned to you," he voiced out.

"But sir_" I tried to say when I couldn't hold anymore.

"Allow me to finish," he said and glared at me. I looked down and kept quiet.

"Half of your salary for this month will be deducted and for two weeks, you are restricted from working, you will not treat nor take care of any patient. All you will have to do is to clean and assist other doctors," he said and passed me a paper immediately.

As I heard his words, I was shocked and perplexed. I looked up at him with shaky hands.

"He cannot derive me from what I love most. Treating and caring for my patients myself is my priority," I reminded myself and immediately went on my knees.

"Sir please, I cannot bear the punishment. You can have all my salary but don't restrict me from carrying out my duties," I said to him.

"No, my decision is final. I have already signed the document regarding your punishment as evidence," Mr. Adams said and continued flipping through the documents on his desk.

There were already tears in my eyes, I tried to say something but nothing came out of my mouth. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and put myself together.

"But sir_" I tried to say when I found my word. He didn't let me finish before yelling at me to get out of his office.

"Right now, get out, you idiot," he repeated.

I turned and didn't bother to say anything further, I couldn't also look at Vivian but her mocking laughter echoed in the office as I hurried out of Mr, Adams's office.

I rushed into the restroom as usual to cry my eyes out.

CHAPTER 2FREDA'S POVI WONDER which was heavier the rain or my heart, I could feel both storming heavily as I walked out of the changing room dragging my awkwardly light legs as I went.Today had been one of those days I wouldn't term as being Splendid it was the exact oppositeIt Started right and then switched right in the middle to become one of the worst days of my life, and if there was anything I wanted at that moment it was certainly to forget about how everything had gone down so quickly including the fact that I had been suspended.I walked down the hallway that had faulty lights blinking on and off due to the stormy weather.Surprisingly enough it wasn't as busy as I had expected it to be with just a few people in the waiting room, shivering from the breezing wind while an intern walked in holding warm towels to pass around. One thing was certain and that was the fact that I was going to miss this place for the meantime I was away working on the ground floor as an assistant

CHAPTER 3FREDA'S POV"STAY with me." My voice came out of my larynx trembling. It was obvious I was risking everything bringing this man home as he was still bleeding profusely from the bullet holes but the good thing about everything was that he was conscious for that moment. With one hand over my shoulder, we wobbled into my apartment, he fell to the ground right at the door, his eyes fluttering again about to lose consciousness.I swiped my hands across his face, landing a stinging slap that brought him back to life."Don't die on me," I said, picking him up as we staggered into my kitchen. I placed him right on the table before rushing to get my first aid kit.The man was still groaning when I reached his side."You will be fine," I assured him looking into his dark, dying eyes. His body was getting cold every minute, it had to be the cold from the rain or the fact that he was dying."Fuck." I muttered to myself realizing I had no painkillers to help ease his pain while I got th

CHAPTER 4FREDA'S POVI STARED briskly at this stranger I had no idea about, and if I was being totally sincere he looked so handsome even in his distress. He studied me with curious eyes, it got me wondering why he was doing so as I was filled with a kind of unease with the way he stares burning right Into my soul."Who the hell are you?" He asked again. It was funny he was doing the exact thing I was supposed to be doing, how ironic it was to ask the owner of the house for her identity."I think the question should be who are you rather," I said to the man, not tearing away my gaze from his face.He groaned as he struggled to get up. "Look I don't know who you are or what you've done to me all I want to do is get out of this fucking place." "This fucking place." I looked around and chuckled. This was certainly one ungrateful son of a bitch and I was done smiling with him."Who the hell are you to speak to me in such a manner?" I sounded pissed."After saving your life you didn't de

CHAPTER 5FREDA’S POVI was hurt that Darren ended things with me just because I refused to send this stranger out of my house in his state. But come to think of it, how could Darren be this heartless?Courld it be that he had been looking for reasons to call of the engagement but didn't find any and decided to use this issue as a cover up?Something I fishy and I was sure about it, there was no way he would have called off the marriage just because I wanted to help someone who was in need?"I'm sorry." A voice drifted into my ears."Huh!"I froze for about a second before turning around sharply and to my shock, I saw him standing at the door with a pained expression on his face. “Wait, how long have you been standing there?” I squinted my brows staring intensely at him..“I’m sorry, I know I’m not supposed to eavesdrop but I just couldn’t help it,” He sighed looking as though a child who had been caught doing something bad. What the hell was he saying? He couldn’t help but not give

CHAPTER 6Freda’s POV. "Hummm."I muttered as I woke up with a banging headache, the first thing that came to my mind was ‘Liam’. His well-being and welfare was my utmost priority. I stood and picked a coat from my closet to cover my night dress. I went straight to Liam’s room and stretched my hand to knock on the door when the door opened suddenly, and I was cleared my throat nervously. “I just wanted to check on you,” I said nervously, but hoped silently that he didn’t notice the nervousness in my voice. “Well, I’m okay,” Liam smiled and I shook my head, brushing him lightly before entering his room.“Lie down,” I frowned pointing at the bed."Why?" Liam squinted his brows as he stared at me with a confused expression. “Are you okay?” He frowned as he moved towards me slowly.“What sort of question is this?” I stated with the expression on my face changing. At that moment, all the nervousness I had been feeling disappeared into thin air. “I’m fine,” I continued."I see." CHAPTER 7FREDA’S POV“You can’t call them!” I said in a panic while Darren wondered if he was about doing something wrong. “You’re acting weird nowadays,” Darren said slowly. I honestly didn’t know what Darren was talking about, so I kept on staring at him with a creased brows. “You say you care for people and feel their pain but why would you do that to him just because he wanted to leave?” Darren asked pointing at the unconscious Liam on the floor. This made me reflect if I did anything wrong, but the moment I remembered I did this just because I wanted him to be safe, I felt happy. “I didn’t change,” I said with a smirk but suddenly remembered that he wanted to report to my family. “Besides, Don’t call my family members to tell them anything,” I said seriously. “It’s none of your business, it’s my duty to tell them about the breakup and not yours,” I added hastily I didn’t want him to be involved in my family issues and dark past, and that was why I wanted to tell them myse

CHAPTER 8FREDA’S POV“What in heaven’s name is happening here?” I asked shockingly and that instant, I saw Liam walk out of the Kitchen in an apron. The dining was filled with dishes of Chicken Marsala, but I still couldn’t believe the sight before me. “Liam! You...What were you doing in there?” I asked the moment I was able to find my voice. “Why?” He asked confusingly. “I just noticed you were about cooking and you left halfway to the hospital, so I decided to help you cook it,” Liam explained, as I furrowed my brows in shock. “You know how to cook?” I asked surprisingly. Thinking about it, Darren had never prepared any meal for me but, Liam was just doing so. “Well I didn’t know how I cooked it, I just put things together with what I guessed and they gave me this,” Liam smiled pointing at the food on the dining. “I’ll join you later,” I said, as I headed straight to my room. My body was reeking of sweat, so bathing that moment was the only thing on my mind. Quickly, I rus

CHAPTER 9Freda’s POV I woke up the next morning with a bang on my door and I knew instantly that it was definitely no one but Ruby. I got up and dragged my legs to open the door for her, just to meet the confused look on her face and I knew immediately that Ruby must have met Liam. “That man in your house?” This was the first thing that escaped her mouth when her eyes met with mine. I widened my door for her to come inside which she did without delay. “You have to start talking, so I’ll understand everything,” Ruby said with a very serious look, leaving me to nod. That was one of the reasons why I called her, so I could talk to her and feel better. I wasted no time in explaining to her about how I met Liam, and how I also saved him. The atmosphere became tense when I suddenly mentioned that Darren caught sight of Liam in my house and Ruby couldn’t hold back her scream. “No way!!!!” She screamed but I was quick to cover her mouth, making her words become a muffled sound. “Ple

CHAPTER 10Liam’s POV. I stared at the girl before me with anger coursing through my veins. Not that I was angry with her, nor Freda, but I was angry at myself because I was a coward! How could I just forget who I was and the memories I must have shared with those who I called family or friends. The fact that Freda’s friend was a talkative made me not to like her, coupled with reasons unknown to me. I just didn’t know why my instinct failed to trust her or believe that she was real. But I felt I was wrong to suddenly hate someone with no just cause. At least, I know that it wasn’t my fault that I developed amnesia, but I couldn’t help but “Because I mean if you try, you can at least remember something,” She said again and I sighed. Wasn’t she supposed to know when to shut up, even after refusing to reply her. I opened my mouth but Freda beat me to it. “Ruby, please watch your tongue,” Freda said as I stared at her surprisingly. “It’s not his fault that he’s suddenly sufferin
