Elaine’s POV
I don’t know how long it had been, but it must have been more than a day when the guards decided to check on me. My bones were colder than ice because they made sure to bathe me in ice water every time I dried off.One of them started untying me with rough precision while I gritted my teeth to keep from yelping in pain, knowing they hated it when I screamed. They’d make the punishment ten times worse if I did, a lesson I learned the hard way. Learned nonetheless.“You are going to the palace to work as a servant. That is going to be your last punishment if you don’t ruin Prince Killian’s engagement party,” the other guard gruffed out, as though he didn’t want me to leave. Wicked dog.“One wrong move from you, and you won’t like it back here. Understand?” the one untying me demanded.I weakly nodded, not trusting myself to do anything other than raise my head. I don’t have a voice anyway. They had mocked me throughout my time here for not being able to make any sound but apart from my 'appalling' screams. I have a husky tone, so what? I can’t even talk.I was escorted to the palace in a tinted black car. I wasn’t able to see anything, not that I had the strength. They didn’t even let me shower, only thrusting a uniform in my hand and telling me to get to work in the kitchen as the event was starting soon. While I was working, cleaning the glass cups as I was instructed, two girls came to stand beside me. I recognized them from school, but they never bothered to talk to me. They were also wearing the same uniform as me.“Hi, I’m Tessa. I don’t expect you to answer me; I know you can’t talk. I just wanted to say I like you. I have a sister, and she is mute too,” she said, giving me a friendly smile.“And I’m Lana, pleased to meet you,” the other one said, her smile less large but genuine. My chest blossomed with something akin to joy, then it deflated because I have never had friends before. This is so random for someone with vast trust issues. I mean, even my family members don’t want me around them because I’m mute and unattractive.Nevertheless, I gave them both a nod, then Tessa went on to tell me they volunteered to work here since they won’t be getting any invitation as the peasants of the kingdom. I listened to them rant about how they have always wanted to attend an event in the palace and whatnot. The party was in full swing when Leah walked inside with the twins behind her, talking about how they should add something to Killian’s drink. I was behind the counter on the floor cleaning up a glass cup that broke.“Hailey, you should add it. You have an innocent face they won’t notice, and make sure that useless mute serves it to him,” Leah said while rummaging through her bag from the sound of it.“What if he chooses her?” Halle asked with a gasp of horror that pierced my chest. She is my half-sister, for goodness sake.“You think I will let that happen?” Leah let out a malicious laugh before they all strutted out.I stayed hidden for a good minute to make sure they had left. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, then stared down at the little golden thing that dropped on the white counter. That was what Leah had put in Killian’s drink to make him choose her as his bride.Weren’t they dating already? He was going to choose her even though I am his mate. The thought of him taking her as his mate when she isn’t made something harsh cut at my insides. I blinked away whatever it was, knowing I cannot have feelings for Killian. He is a monster and an animal. I am human and a mute. He won’t ever accept me. Ever.Tessa walked into the kitchen right then and saw the little golden drop that Leah had left. She came forward, smelled it with their power, then her eyes widened. She looked between the thing on the counter and me.“Where did you get this potion from?” She asked, her eyes still wide.“I didn’t,” I signed to her since she understands the basic ones.“Who did?”“Leah,” I mouthed several times before she caught on what I was saying.“It is a love potion. Do you know who she wants to serve it to?” Tessa’s throat bobbed as she swallowed.“Killian.”“We are fucked!” Tessa almost screamed, then said, “We need to make sure she doesn’t give it to him. He will unwillingly choose her as his mate.”I don’t understand why she is panicking. It’s not like Killian is going to become the king after he chooses this. His older brother is already the king; he will have to wait a very long time before taking the throne. Leah won’t become a queen anytime soon either. But I gave Tessa a nod, took a tray filled with werewolf drinks that had made me nauseous the entire night, coupled with how sick I was. I’m not sure my mother even asked where I was. Or if she is even happy I wouldn’t be back home for once.Pushing the thought aside, I stepped out of the kitchen, making my rounds around the guests when Hailey dragged me to the side. I know she is about to go through with Leah’s command, so I listened as she told me how to make sure Killian gets a particular drink.“If you mess this up you won’t like it.” She said then stalk off.I hastily retreated to a secluded corner, my heart pounding with urgency as I scribbled a note to Killian on a small piece of paper. My hands trembled as I wrote, the words spilling out in a frantic rush, warning him of the love potion hidden in one of the drinks.I pleaded with him not to consume it, knowing the dire consequences if he did. I think deep down I also don’t want him to choose Leah… I want him to choose me.With trembling hands, I folded the note and approached Killian, my eyes pleading for understanding as I offered him the paper. He took it, his gaze flickering over the words with a furrowed brow. I held my breath, hoping against hope that he would heed my warning. But as I watched in dismay, he glanced up at me, a shadow of mockery passing over his features before he raised the glass to his lips and took a sip. My heart sank as he drank the whole thing in one gulp.Elaine’s POV “Why did you drink it?” I questioned desperately in my head, anger and frustration leaking at my insides. I shouldn’t be feeling this way for this monster that has put me through a lot in the past twenty four hours and killed a man for not adding honorific to his fucking name. But something about the toe curling kisses we shared made me want more. Much more. There is something dark, satanic and sinful about the way he had kissed me and I want to feel it again. It wasn’t just a kiss, it wasn’t even cute or romantic to say the least. The darkness within us is actually calling something buried within me. I want it with Killian. He is the only person that can fulfill those dark fantasies, I know that from the way he had stared at me after he kissed me in that dungeon. The way his tongue had dominated and sexed mine in a way that made me tremble from inside out. He knows how to love a tongue, who knows what he would do to the rest of my sensitive body? Wetness pulled bet
Killian’s POVI stared at my mother and older brother as they angrily paced the room, having witnessed what happened out there with Elaine, my mute human mate. I have ruined the whole evening for them which isn’t what they had planned for me. My brother had the nerve to slap me twice because of what I did. As the younger brother to the Alpha King, I am supposed to listen to whatever he says just like I did my father. My mother always supports them because she is into this politics way more than I am as the Prince. She loves power, so does my brother and he has it now. I don’t like that he is showing that power on me though. He is my brother for fucks sake. Older than me with barely three years but he acts like he owns the world ever since he took over at the Alpha King. “Why would you bite a freaking human? That pathetic weak thing?” My mother yelled again, her face going red from so much anger. “Yeah, he wanted to humiliate us. No one from this kingdom has ever mated a human. The
Elaine’s POV My feet felt like lead weights, anchoring me in place as the guard's words washed over me in a bewildering torrent. Disbelief is written all over my face because I could barely hear what he is actually saying. Accusations, wild and baseless, tumbled from his lips like poisoned daggers, each one stabbing at the fragile fabric of my reality. Why, in the name of all that is sane, would the maids point their fingers at me, implicating me in the heinous act of regicide? I haven't so much as glimpsed the faces of the majesties, let alone had any interaction with them. Who are they?As if a mere peasant will be allowed to meet the Alpha King and mother queen. I heard about how powerful they are. No maid is going to be allowed to see them, especially a maid like me that is serving punishment. So what is this guard saying? Why is he saying it like he rehearsed it?My existence within these walls is a mere penance, a sentence to be served for a handful of hours before I am perm
Elaine’s POV Killian's eyes blazed with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine as he stood beside Leah, his newly-minted mate. The air crackled with tension, heavy with the weight of unspoken accusations and bitter betrayal. My heart pounded in my chest as I watched him, helpless and mute, unable to defend myself against the onslaught of accusations hurled my way. Not that it would have change anything. Leah's voice cut through the charged atmosphere like a dagger, her words dripping with venom as she accused me of heinous crimes I had not committed. How she must be rejoicing in her head. “Killian, my love," she purred, her tone saccharine sweet yet laced with malice, "you must believe the guards. They saw Elaine with their own eyes, lurking in the shadows like the wicked human witch she is."I felt a surge of panic rise within me as I met Killian's steely gaze, silently pleading for him to see the truth behind Leah's lies. But his expression remained impassive, his feature
Elaine’s POV Tears streamed down my cheeks in silent protest, my voice lost amidst the clamor of their cruelty. With trembling hands, I raised my arms in a feeble attempt to shield myself from the barrage of ridicule raining down upon me, but it was futile."Please... stop," I pleaded, my words choked with emotion in my head, they won’t hear me. Only I could hear myself. But my silent cries fell on deaf ears, drowned out by the raucous laughter and taunts that surrounded me. Each tear that fell felt like a dagger to my heart, a painful reminder of my helplessness in the face of their relentless assault. But still, they showed no mercy, their laughter growing louder and more derisive with each passing moment. They revealed in my suffering, feeding off my pain like wolves to a wounded prey, their mocking voices echoing off the walls of the hall.I felt myself crumbling beneath the weight of their scorn, my spirit battered and bruised, but still defiant in the face of their cruelty. Th
Killian’s POVI cautiously entered my brother's study, a sense of dread washed over me at the sight that greeted my eyes. I had to blink twice. I might be known to be ruthless but seeing my family’s bodies on the floor did something to me. There, on the floor, lay both my mother and brother, their bodies contorted in agony, foam spilling from their mouths. The acrid smell of wolfsbane hung heavy in the air, its toxic presence unmistakable.Questions raced through my mind in a frantic whirlwind. How did this happen? How had they been poisoned? And why hadn't they detected the deadly herb in whatever they had consumed? My heart clenched with fear and disbelief as I knelt beside them, desperate to find any sign of life amidst the stillness that surrounded me. Something weird jerked in my heart at the sight of them like this. But as I reached out to touch them, a cold realization settled over me like a shroud. They were gone, their lives stolen from them by a silent killer that lurked i
Elaine’s POV The guards seized me roughly, their grip like iron shackles as they dragged me along the cold, stone corridor. I offered no resistance, my limbs feeling leaden and useless as they hoisted me like a mere sack of grain. With each step, the weight of my helplessness bore down on me like a suffocating blanket. I didn't bother to struggle or protest; what was the use? I was nothing more than a pawn in their game, a human amongst wolves, destined to be cast aside and forgotten. They ushered me into the dank depths of the dungeon, a chill swept through me, sending shivers down my spine. The air was thick with the stench of decay and despair, a tangible reminder of the darkness that lurked within these walls.I cast a fleeting glance around the dimly lit chamber, taking in the grim surroundings with a sense of resignation. There was no escape from this prison, no reprieve from the relentless torment that awaited me at every turn.In the eyes of these creatures, I was nothing mo
Elaine’s POV We reached our destination, a wave of dizziness washed over me, threatening to pull me into the depths of unconsciousness. Despite my efforts to remain alert, my vision blurred and my limbs grew heavy, the strain of the day's ordeals finally taking its toll. With a barely audible gasp, I felt myself slipping away, the world around me fading into darkness as my consciousness ebbed away. The last thing I heard before succumbing to oblivion was the murmur of voices, distant and muffled, as Killian spoke to the guards in hushed tones.Though the words eluded me, their somber tones echoed in the recesses of my mind, a haunting reminder of the precarious situation in which I found myself. Darkness enveloped me, I relinquished myself to its embrace, the promise of respite from the turmoil that plagued my waking hours offering a fleeting solace amidst the chaos. I want it all quiet even just for a little while. With a commanding tone, Killian instructed the guards to secure t
### Epilogue: A New DawnThe sun rose over the valley, casting a warm, golden light that signified a new beginning. The pack gathered at the clearing, the air filled with a sense of hope and renewal. It had been months since Leah's downfall, and the wounds left by her treachery were slowly healing.Elaine stood at the edge of the forest, her white fur glowing in the early morning light. She looked out over her pack, feeling a deep sense of peace and fulfillment. This was where she belonged, and she had earned her place among them through strength, courage, and an unyielding sense of justice.Killian approached her, his royal attire reflecting the dawn's light. His presence was a calming force, a reminder of the bond they shared and the future they were building together. He reached out, gently taking her hand in his."Are you ready?" he asked, his voice soft and filled with love.Elaine nodded, a smile playing on her lips. "More than ever."Together, they walked towards the heart of t
Elaine’s POVThe morning sun cast a golden hue over the clearing, the perfect setting for what was to come. A large crowd of pack members had gathered, their eyes filled with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. The tension in the air was palpable, the whispers among the crowd echoing the gravity of the situation.Leah stood on the opposite side of the clearing, her face a mask of defiance and fear. She tried to mask her fear with arrogance, but I could see the flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. This was it. The culmination of all her scheming and cruelty. She had nowhere left to hide, and her fate was sealed.I took a deep breath, feeling the power of my wolf surging within me. This was why I had changed into a wolf in the first place, to bring justice and reclaim my rightful place. I stepped forward, the crowd parting to make way for me, their whispers growing louder."Elaine," I heard Killian's voice, filled with both pride and concern. I glanced back at him, giving a small nod.
Killian’s POVElaine, Riley, and I sat comfortably in the living room, discussing everything from kingdom affairs to light-hearted gossip. The warmth of our camaraderie was a welcome respite from the weight of recent events. Riley seemed more at ease, though she still fretted over her boss's reaction to the car accident."Thanks for being here, guys," Riley said, her smile soft but genuine. "I'm really worried about talking to my boss."Elaine squeezed her hand. "We'll figure it out together. Maybe Jake can offer to cover the damages, considering it was his fault."Riley nodded, her face thoughtful. "I hope he'll understand. I just don't want to lose my job.""Just be honest," I suggested. "Bosses appreciate honesty and a willingness to take responsibility. We'll back you up."As we settled back into our conversation, Jake, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, suddenly spoke up, his voice heavy with emotion."I can't keep this in any longer," he said, his tone serious and urgent.
Killian’s POVElaine and I sat comfortably in the main living room, discussing our plans for ruling the kingdom. The warm sunlight filtered through the large windows, casting a golden hue over the room. I leaned back in my chair, a contented smile on my face as we shared ideas and dreams for our future reign."We should focus on strengthening our alliances with neighboring packs," Elaine suggested, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "It will ensure peace and prosperity for our people."I nodded, appreciating her insight. "And we can invest in better education and training for our warriors. Make sure they are the best."Our conversation was interrupted by the sudden sound of hurried footsteps. We turned to see Jake storming in, looking visibly agitated. Behind him, Riley entered the room, panting heavily. Elaine quickly stood up, concern etched on her face, and rushed over to her friend."Riley, what's wrong?" she asked, her voice filled with worry.Riley glanced at Jake, then back
Elaine’s POV The next day dawned with an air of anticipation, the excitement of the upcoming ball palpable throughout the palace. I stood in my room, the soft morning light filtering through the grand windows, casting a warm glow on the elegant furnishings. Today was the day I would officially claim my place beside Killian, and I felt a mix of nerves and excitement.I dressed meticulously, every detail of my attire chosen to reflect the significance of the event. The gown was a deep midnight blue, the fabric rich and luxurious, cascading in elegant waves down to the floor. The intricate embroidery sparkled subtly, catching the light with every movement. I checked my reflection in the mirror, ensuring that everything was in place, feeling the weight of the moment.Riley stood beside me, equally dressed to the nines. She had been a constant support through the tumultuous events of recent days, and seeing her ready for the ball filled me with a sense of camaraderie and reassurance. Her
Killian’s POV But as Leah turned to leave, she whirled around again, her eyes blazing with fury. "You think you can just dismiss me like that? You think you can mate with a human and keep your place as Alpha? That's not how it works, Killian!"Elaine stiffened beside me, her fear transforming into a simmering rage. "Don't you dare talk about things you don't understand, Leah," she snapped. Before I could stop her, she stepped forward, her eyes flashing with determination."Elaine, don't," I warned, reaching out to pull her back, but she shook off my hand. She was too angry, too filled with righteous indignation to be swayed."You want to see what I'm capable of, Leah?" she challenged, her voice steady and unwavering. "I'll show you."With that, she began to change. I watched in stunned silence as her body shifted and contorted, her human form giving way to something much more powerful. In mere moments, Elaine had transformed into a magnificent white wolf, her fur gleaming like fresh
Killian’s POVBut I should have known Leah wouldn’t leave so easily. The next thing I knew, while I was going through my list of new elders, my phone rang. It was Jake."Killian, we have a situation," he said urgently."What is it?" I asked, already feeling a knot form in my stomach."It's Leah. She's at your townhouse, and there are pack members gathering outside. She's causing a scene, and she's dragging Elaine out with her."My blood ran cold. I wasted no time, bolting from my office and racing towards my townhouse. The drive felt like an eternity, each second ticking by in agonizing slowness. When I finally arrived, the scene was worse than I had imagined.A crowd of pack members had gathered, their faces filled with confusion and concern. Leah stood at the center of it all, gripping Elaine's arm tightly. Elaine looked frightened but defiant, her eyes searching the crowd for me."Leah!" I roared, pushing through the throng of onlookers. "Let her go!"She turned to face me, her exp
Killian’s POVAs Killian, I marched through the palace halls with a sense of determination, the echoes of my footsteps reverberating against the cold stone walls. It was time to confront Leah and put an end to her manipulative games once and for all. She had taken things too far, and I wasn't going to let her continue poisoning the pack with her lies and deceit. When I reached her quarters, I didn't bother knocking. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, finding Leah lounging on a chaise with an air of smugness. Her eyes widened in surprise as she saw me, but she quickly masked it with a sneer."Killian," she purred, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "What brings you here?""We need to talk," I said, my tone cold and unyielding. I didn't give her a chance to respond as I crossed the room and stood before her. "Your time here is over, Leah."Her eyes narrowed, and she sat up, crossing her arms over her chest. "You can't just throw me out. I have every right to be here.""You
Killian’s POV The sun had barely risen when I decided it was time to confront the elders. It was a pivotal day, one that would determine the future course of our pack. With resolve, I called for a meeting with the cabinet elders, knowing that the truth would soon come to light. As I entered the council chamber, eleven elders were already seated, their faces a mix of curiosity and suspicion. I could feel the weight of their eyes on me, scrutinizing my every move. Taking a deep breath, I addressed them with a calm but authoritative voice. "Thank you all for coming on such short notice," I began, my gaze sweeping over the room. "There are matters of great importance that need to be addressed."Without hesitation, I moved to the heart of the issue. "After careful consideration and investigation, it has come to my attention that some among you have not been loyal to our pack. Your allegiance lies elsewhere, with those who seek to undermine our unity and strength."A murmur of unease ripp
