My eyes fluttered open at the sound of the chirping birds. I could feel a migraine coming and I sat up. The events of the previous night, flooding in at once. I let my eyes adjust to the brightness, taking in the details of the room. It was quite large, with the walls painted in white. A chandelier hanging from the ceiling, its bulbs glowing. The bed was king sized and soft. The white duvet draped over me to keep warm, was a bit cold at touch. There was a dressing mirror, a wardrobe and a parted white curtain. An emerald green rug on the floor and the scent of fragrance hit my nostrils. The room not only looked fancy but also smelt like one. It was nothing like back at the pack and I’m glad it wasn’t. Back there, I was made to share a room with six maids and every night, we’d fight for the best spot to sleep on the floor. I peeled the duvet off me as i wondered where I was. Most importantly, I wondered who changed my dress! “How did I get here?” I asked myself as I stared down at the black shirt that I had on. It was long till the point that it got to my ankle. Was I dead? Was this heaven? The shirt was black and smelled foreign but good at the same time. There was a lion, drawn on it. I definitely wouldn’t be putting on a man’s shirt if I was in heaven. My head spinned and I was confused. Different questions flooded my mind, but only one stood out; How did I escape that deadly beast? “Where am I?” I asked no one in particular, as I stared around the room. My wounds were all healed and I could no longer feel the pain at my ankle. I wondered if the monster had brought me here to trap me. Is this what the princess felt, trapped by the beast until they had to fall in love, because there is absolutely no way I’m making out with the beast I saw last night. My eyes diverted to the door, as I heard the knob creak. My eyes glowing yellow and a low growl escaped my lips, as I stood up from the bed. The door finally opened and to my surprise, there was no beast, but a man. He walked in, my hands dropping by my side and my eyes, taking their usual brown color. He held a tray at one hand, dressed smartly in a white rolled up sleeve, tucked into a neat straightened pant and polished shoes. His long jet black hair was combed quite neatly and he had a slight smile on his face. His bulky muscles moved, and I could feel my stomach churn at the sight of him. “You are awake, I see.” His voice matched his body. Dominating, deep velvet voice that almost made my knees weak. “Who are you?” I finally managed to speak, after gawking at him for a few good seconds. “The man you’ve been eager to meet the moment you turned eighteen. Your soulmate.” He said with a smile. He didn’t even need to explain. This man was my mate? I swallowed my words as soon as he uttered that he was my mate. I was so tensed earlier, that I didn’t notice the ‘pull’ that I was suddenly feeling. Now it all made sense why I was captivated by him. I didn’t know how to react. Should I walk up to him and give him a slap across the face for not bothering to look for me all these years? Should I cry at having finally found my mate? Should I… “You are not my mate.” I blurted out, my tone sounding harsher than I intended. I watched him stare at me with pity, before he set the tray on the table. “You feel the bond, don’t you?” He asked, a frown setting in on his face. Ugh! I wanted to stay so mad at him but I can’t. If not anything, I felt a bit guilty for sounding so harsh. “Where is this? Who are you?” I asked instead, changing the subject as I didn’t feel comfortable to continue with it. “You are at my pack now. You can call me Markov.” He responded but it wasn’t enough. However before I could speak, he continued. “I want to know. Who are you? Where are you from and who are your parents?” I sat on the bed, wondering if I could trust him enough to tell him everything. Though we were mates, he was someone I just met and I can’t read his thoughts to know what he must be thinking. “I’m an Orphan and a pack slave at Alpha Damien’s pack.” “What pack?” I stared at him suspiciously at how invested he was in knowing details about me. Who really was this man before me? Is he an angel or a devil in disguise as one. “The blood hound pack...” “Beyond the forest?” I raised a brow at him, watching as he gave me a questioning look. My brows furrowed as I nodded my head and replied with a ‘yes’ “What is your bloodline?” “Why?” I raised a brow as I fired back with a question. “Why are you so desperate to know about me? Who are you?” He gave a forced smile. “Forgive me if I’ve made you feel uncomfortable. I didn’t mean to sound rude. I was just interested in knowing you and that’s all. Earlier this morning, I found you in the woods and brought you home. I need to know what you are and if you are not a spy and a threat to my pack.” “I was running away.” I confessed with a sigh and he raised his brows, his interest piqued by what I was about to say. “You don’t have to say anything, if you don’t feel like it.” He said with a slight smile and I couldn’t help but smile at how thoughtful he was. I narrated everything to him. Giving him details of how badly I was treated at my previous pack and my arranged marriage with mason. How I escaped and was almost caught before encountering the beast in the forest. “I’m sorry for everything you had to go through.” He spoke through clenched teeth and his fist tightened. I didn’t need to read his thoughts to know that he cared deeply about me. He cared more about me than my pack did. I could feel something in my stomach and my heart seemed to skip, as we locked gaze. Is this what true love feels like? “You are home now, with me. You can stay as long as you want and live a happy and comfortable life. I promise to love you and treat you right.” He said, walking towards me and taking my hands into his. “You won’t feel rejected by me and I will never leave you.” He swore before he lifted my hands and planted warm kisses on them. He stared at me, my eyes pooling in tears before he leaned for a kiss. It was short but it felt good and he pulled back, wiping my tears with the back of his palm. A knock interrupted us and a maid walked in, at his permission. She announced the arrival of his beta, before he stared back at me with a smile on his face. “I’d like you to give a tour to my Luna. Take her out for shopping and help pick her dress. Get her whatever she wants and spend as much as you can.” He said, pulling a black card from his pocket and handing it to the maid with a look of shock on her face. “Excuse me, I have a meeting to attend.” He said with a short smile before he gave me a light peck and walked out of the room, leaving me stunned and in short of words. I was so stunned that the thought that I came out of the forest alive, went to the back of my mind.M A R K O V“I killed her parents.” I gritted in anger, grabbing an antique on the table and hauling it at the wall. I watched as it collided with the wall and broke. My beta, stood across the table, a slight frown on his face, as he listened. He tried to calm me down severally but he knew it wasn’t yielding any efforts and was tired.“How can…how can…” I said, frustration coursing through my veins as I stared at my hands, my claws extracted. “I’m a fucking monster!” I swiped at the table, cutting it into a clean half and watching each part of it, colliding to the floor. I felt a palm on my shoulder and I stared at my beta, with my eyes turning into a crimson red.“Enough Markov.” He said, with his eyes golden in color as a deep frown settled on his face. I could feel him applying pressure to his hand.If it were another beta, his head would have been sliced clean from the rest of his body. However, he was no ordinary beta. He was my howling brother and his family were friends to min
J A D EAs soon as Markov left, the maid announced I needed to take my bath while she handed me fresh towels. She proceeded to follow me into the bathroom to my greatest surprise. I stared at her through the mirror and she stared right back, still standing.“Uhm…” I started, clearing my throat. “Are you going to stay here while I bathe or something because that is not happening and I doubt your Alpha will want his guest bathed by a stranger while he is not around, let alone, a female stranger.”She let out a chuckle and shook her head, a smile gracing her beautiful features. She was truly beautiful, in every sense of the word. Her hair was blonde and wavy, stopping at the middle of her back. She had a pale complexion, with her lips plump and pink. Her eyes were a blue ocean with her cheekbones high. She had a perfect body that could match her face and she was tall.I could only imagine her to be in her late thirties or early forties. She laughed and it was like music to my ears. It was
J A D EWe arrived at the dining room and she stopped. She told me to enter and she would wait outside for me.I was nervous, but I needed to push it down. I inhaled and exhaled, calming myself and composing myself.I didn’t need him to sense how scared and worried I was. I needed to be calm and collected.I turned the knob and walked in.The dining room was big. The walls were white and had two paintings hung on either side of the wall.At the far end of the room, was a long wooden table. He sat at the end of the table, a glass in his hand. He had his sleeves rolled up and his shirt was unbuttoned a little, revealing the tattoo on his chest and arm. He didn't look like he was in a good mood, by the looks on his face.I cleared my throat and he raised his gaze. A smile replaced his frown as he saw me. He stood up, his eyes roaming over my body, taking in the sight of me.He was speechless, and it made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.I smiled, walking closer and he
J A D ETwo days passed by in a blur and still there was no sign of Markov. It was too lonely in here and if I wasn’t talking to Eliza, I was in my room sleeping. At one point, it got tiring.I decided to do something different today. Back in the Silvermoon pack, I was never given the privilege of having a TV or even anything close to that.My room was a small storage room with a bed that hurts like a bitch and a small window for air. Ever since my parents death, I had slept in that room and I couldn’t even complain unless I wanted my head chopped off.Not wanting to reminisce about the past, I got off my bed and walked down the stairs. The living room was empty, but I could hear clattering of plates in the kitchen. The maids were probably there, preparing dinner.I took a seat on the soft leather sofa, and took the remote, turning on the TV. It felt strange to be doing this, and I was surprised I could even operate a remote. Just how much of my life have I missed out on?I’ve lived a
J A D EA blue colored bird that looked beautiful. It was the prettiest creature I have ever seen."I found it near the park, and thought of you," He said.I was overwhelmed by his generosity. The last gift I got was from my mom.It was a silver necklace with a wolf pendant, and I still had it, it was my only reminder of her. "Thank you, I love it. Do you think I can name it?""Sure.""Hmm, let me think. Bluey! Yes, that's a perfect name. Look at his blue wings, it's the same color as his body. Don't you think it's pretty?""Yeah, just like you.""Oh, hush. Come on, Bluey, let's play together. I can't wait for you to meet Eliza. She's the sweetest girl ever. You guys would be best friends.""Do you have any pets, little wolf?""No. My old alpha would never allow it. But, I have a secret friend.""Is that so?" I could detect the anger in his voice even if he tried to hide it. There was a slight growl, and his eyes darkened."Yup. He's a rabbit and his name is Jack. He's white and has
J A D E I was sitting in my room, reading a book while Bluey was in his cage, sleeping soundly. The next morning, Markov brought a huge cage and all the bird necessities. He was surprised that Bluey was already eating fruit from my hand, but I told him it was because I was feeding him the first day."What are you doing in here? Why aren't you with your friends?" I asked, closing my book and looking at Eliza. She was wearing a pair of black leggings and a crop top. Her long, blond hair was braided into two braids. She had her usual black eyeliner on and a small amount of makeup. She was dressed ready to go outside."I came to see if you wanted to join us. We're going to the clubhouse. We have a bar and a pool table. You'll like it." She offered."Really? You're inviting me out with you?""Yeah, you've been locked in this room for too long. Plus, Markov won't stop talking about you, so this will shut him up for a bit," she said, making me laugh."You're not going to tell me that I'm no
J A D EI haven’t seen or spoken to Markov in a week, he has been avoiding me, and I have been locked in the bedroom since that night.A few nights ago, I was walking around the house, and I saw Markov. He was sitting at the dining table, staring at the wall.I was about to say something, but he raised his hand and pointed at the stairs, signaling me to leave.I could sense his anger, and I didn't want to push him. I didn’t understand why he was angry at me for what happened that night. Or was he angry at himself for letting me see that side of him?I came down the stairs to have a glass of milk as I couldn’t sleep. It was currently 12 in the midnight and I was shocked to find Markov sitting on the kitchen counter, downing a whole bottle of alcohol down his throat.I cleared my throat, making my presence known. He didn't look up or acknowledge me, he simply kept on drinking."Markov, we need to talk," I said, in a stern voice."There is nothing to talk about. Go back to bed," He repli
M A R K O V“You did what?” Tristin asked, staring at me wide eyed.I looked away from him. “I did what I had to do. I couldn’t allow her to know my true identity this soon.” I said, already knowing the judgment that would come after. “So, using powers to bind her wolf was the best option? You know this will only cause more harm than good? The girl will only get weaker and weaker as the day goes by! That is so stupid, Markov. You have no idea what you have done! What if you killed her wolf?! What would you have done then?! Huh?!”I growled, feeling my inner beast growling in rage. "How dare you question my decisions?!" I shouted.Tristin growled back, his eyes glowing. "How dare you treat her like a slave?! How can you be so heartless?! This isn’t you, Alpha. The plan was you gaining back your sense of humanity once you find her, but it looks like you're falling deeper and deeper into the abyss of madness!""Watch your tongue, Tristin, or I will have it ripped out.""Go ahead. Rip it
