There’s always a point in time when one can only endure so much before you lose it and crack. The cold air brushed my fur as I ran past the pack houses. I had ripped my wedding gown before shifting into my wolf form and diving down the window. The sun was setting and my white fur was being stained by dust. (Stop!) I heard suddenly through the pack’s mindlink. My heart flew to my throat as I turned back to see the wolves fast on my heels. All of them at the beta ranks as they chased after me. Their sizes were enormous with their golden-colored eyes staring right back at me. I ignored the warning from the mind link, as I headed for the forest up ahead. My heart pounding as they gained at me, inching closer with every pacing minute. (Please, don’t chase me. I can’t marry him. He will kill me!) I pleaded through the mind link but they didn’t seem to care. They chased after me regardless of my pleas, determined to catch me at any cost and take me back to him. (Stop right now, Jade!) Definitely not. I increased my pace, my heart thumping loudly in my ears, as I silently hoped that neither Mason nor his dad would join in this chase. Outrunning an Alpha is no easy task and I didn’t want to have to try. I could barely maintain a considerable distance between the Betas and me. They didn’t seem to want to give up, as was I. Soon, the forest came into view, and panic set on my face. I was scared of what I was doing and I knew it was a wrong move to want to seek solitude within the woods. There had been news—rumors about a beast lurking within the forest. No one had seen the beast and those who did, never made it out alive. Those who managed to survive such an encounter never spoke and some days later, committed suicide. That was how I lost my parents as well and became an Orphan. Both my father and mother were beta wolves and were sent to the forest to investigate the beast. They eventually came back though— Just as corpses and in pieces. I pushed the thoughts to the back of my mind, it was only going to slow me down right now. (Jade!) My heart thudded even more loudly, as Mason’s booming voice, reached me through the link. I dared not turn to look but I almost peed myself in fright. My fate had been decided for me. It was evident that I had no other option than to face whatever lurks within the forest. There was no way Mason was going to let my actions slide. No, he’d chain me up and beat me until I lose consciousness, before depriving me of food and freedom. (Jade, don’t move!) He was furious and this time, I could feel his fur against my tail. He was right behind me! I could feel my fur stand on end. Panic coursing through my veins before I felt a Sharp pain at the end of my tail. I could feel a weight on it and realized that he had bitten down at my tail, to stop me from moving. I turned my head to look at him, his red orbs staring back at mine. He was going to compel me to stop and immediately, I summoned the courage to bite hard on his ear. As soon as he let go with a whimper, I dashed straight for the forest, missing him by an inch. I didn’t dare to stop but to continue running, going deep into the heart of the forest. It was slowly getting dark and I knew there was going to be a rain storm, as the clouds darkened. I couldn’t hear the pounding of their paws anymore, but that still didn’t stop me from running. Lightning struck across the sky and thunder boomed immediately after. My paws were throbbing terribly and I had nowhere to go. The forest creatures seemed to be absent. I was a bit frightened as I imagined that they must have run away because of the beast. I shifted into my human form, before leaning against a tree trunk, my heart beating rapidly. I was exhausted, hungry and wounded. I needed time to heal, before deciding on my next course of action. A few minutes in, and the sounds of flapping wings hit my ears— Birds. But, they seemed to be in fright as a number of them flew right past. The rain was pouring and the moon was already out. To my right, I heard the sounds of a twig snapping and I sat upright, my heart pounding. “Who’s there?” I asked, my voice shaky and I grabbed a broken branch with trembling hands. My eyes scanned my environment as a clicking sound reached my ears. My heart pounding against my chest as I held onto the branch like my life depended on it. “I haven’t had a sweet visitor in a few days.” The cold voice sent a chilling shiver down my bones. It didn’t sound human, but demonic. It sounded like a thousand voices overlapping one another. It was quite low and yet loud and it was accompanied by the clicking sound from earlier. “Who are you? S-show yourself!” I yelled, my eyes turning into a tint of light yellow. I stared around me frantically, terror coursing through my body. “Mhmm, your blood smells good. Pumping so fast with fear and that makes it even more exciting, doesn’t it? Sweet bloods are always filled with fear. My favourite.” The voice said, this time, sounding a bit closer. Though, I could see in the dark, I couldn’t see the creature that had spoken. It scared me to death to know that the deadly creature could probably see me while I could see nothing, which meant that it had some level of intelligence. “C-come out now. I- I don’t fear you.” My stuttering already gave it away. He could smell my fear, and I was definitely going to die by the beast that killed my parents. “Are you sure about that?” The voice reached me again and a chuckle followed. “What are you?” I asked, my heart racing and tears threatening to pool in my eyes. A part of me wanted to beg for my life but I didn’t want to appear as weak as I’ve been made to believe, all my life. “As you wish.” I stepped back in panic, as a creature slowly stepped out from a shrub right behind me. It’s eyes were pitch black, and it’s maw were huge with sharp bloodied canines. A hunch wolf kind of creature, standing on its two paws. It’s claws so long that they dug into the soil and dragged along lazily. It had dark furs as well and it seemed to have a smirk on. It towered over me, approaching me with steady steps. “P-please,” I said, taking a few steps back and I knew right then that I'd made a grave mistake coming into this place. “Let’s play a game.” It said, saliva dripping from its mouth as it stared at me. It’s eyes narrowing in on my face. “You run and I catch. If you escape, I’d let you live but if I get you, you die!” My heart pounded even more as every nerve in my body seemed to wreak havoc. My brain yelled at me to bolt or stand and fight, but my legs refused to give in. “Little bird…” the creature said, before lowering its head at me and locking gazes with me. “RUN!” It mumbled and at that moment, thunder boomed the skies. Immediately, I shifted into my wolf, running through the woods. My paws leaving prints in the mud but I didn’t care. I could hear the monster laughing behind me. No matter how far I’ve run or what I do, I could still hear it behind me. I could feel its breath on my furs but couldn’t see it. Lycans shouldn’t exist but one was chasing me. If only the pack knew what beast lurks in the forest, they’d actually understand just how scary it was and avoid it. I noticed the creature, running towards me from the side but before I had the time to move towards another direction, it collided into me. It’s speed was insane and faster than even an Alpha. I hit a tree and fell to the ground. I had cracked my ribs and could feel my eyelids threatening to shut. I noticed the creature approach me, its claws parting my hair, as I shifted into my human form. “It will be over before you know it.” I finally gave in to the darkness, resigning myself to fate and at the mercy of the hunger creature.J A D EMy eyes fluttered open at the sound of the chirping birds. I could feel a migraine coming and I sat up. The events of the previous night, flooding in at once. I let my eyes adjust to the brightness, taking in the details of the room. It was quite large, with the walls painted in white. A chandelier hanging from the ceiling, its bulbs glowing. The bed was king sized and soft. The white duvet draped over me to keep warm, was a bit cold at touch. There was a dressing mirror, a wardrobe and a parted white curtain. An emerald green rug on the floor and the scent of fragrance hit my nostrils. The room not only looked fancy but also smelt like one. It was nothing like back at the pack and I’m glad it wasn’t. Back there, I was made to share a room with six maids and every night, we’d fight for the best spot to sleep on the floor.I peeled the duvet off me as i wondered where I was. Most importantly, I wondered who changed my dress!“How did I get here?” I asked myself as I stared dow
M A R K O V“I killed her parents.” I gritted in anger, grabbing an antique on the table and hauling it at the wall. I watched as it collided with the wall and broke. My beta, stood across the table, a slight frown on his face, as he listened. He tried to calm me down severally but he knew it wasn’t yielding any efforts and was tired.“How can…how can…” I said, frustration coursing through my veins as I stared at my hands, my claws extracted. “I’m a fucking monster!” I swiped at the table, cutting it into a clean half and watching each part of it, colliding to the floor. I felt a palm on my shoulder and I stared at my beta, with my eyes turning into a crimson red.“Enough Markov.” He said, with his eyes golden in color as a deep frown settled on his face. I could feel him applying pressure to his hand.If it were another beta, his head would have been sliced clean from the rest of his body. However, he was no ordinary beta. He was my howling brother and his family were friends to min
J A D EAs soon as Markov left, the maid announced I needed to take my bath while she handed me fresh towels. She proceeded to follow me into the bathroom to my greatest surprise. I stared at her through the mirror and she stared right back, still standing.“Uhm…” I started, clearing my throat. “Are you going to stay here while I bathe or something because that is not happening and I doubt your Alpha will want his guest bathed by a stranger while he is not around, let alone, a female stranger.”She let out a chuckle and shook her head, a smile gracing her beautiful features. She was truly beautiful, in every sense of the word. Her hair was blonde and wavy, stopping at the middle of her back. She had a pale complexion, with her lips plump and pink. Her eyes were a blue ocean with her cheekbones high. She had a perfect body that could match her face and she was tall.I could only imagine her to be in her late thirties or early forties. She laughed and it was like music to my ears. It was
J A D EWe arrived at the dining room and she stopped. She told me to enter and she would wait outside for me.I was nervous, but I needed to push it down. I inhaled and exhaled, calming myself and composing myself.I didn’t need him to sense how scared and worried I was. I needed to be calm and collected.I turned the knob and walked in.The dining room was big. The walls were white and had two paintings hung on either side of the wall.At the far end of the room, was a long wooden table. He sat at the end of the table, a glass in his hand. He had his sleeves rolled up and his shirt was unbuttoned a little, revealing the tattoo on his chest and arm. He didn't look like he was in a good mood, by the looks on his face.I cleared my throat and he raised his gaze. A smile replaced his frown as he saw me. He stood up, his eyes roaming over my body, taking in the sight of me.He was speechless, and it made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.I smiled, walking closer and he
J A D ETwo days passed by in a blur and still there was no sign of Markov. It was too lonely in here and if I wasn’t talking to Eliza, I was in my room sleeping. At one point, it got tiring.I decided to do something different today. Back in the Silvermoon pack, I was never given the privilege of having a TV or even anything close to that.My room was a small storage room with a bed that hurts like a bitch and a small window for air. Ever since my parents death, I had slept in that room and I couldn’t even complain unless I wanted my head chopped off.Not wanting to reminisce about the past, I got off my bed and walked down the stairs. The living room was empty, but I could hear clattering of plates in the kitchen. The maids were probably there, preparing dinner.I took a seat on the soft leather sofa, and took the remote, turning on the TV. It felt strange to be doing this, and I was surprised I could even operate a remote. Just how much of my life have I missed out on?I’ve lived a
J A D EA blue colored bird that looked beautiful. It was the prettiest creature I have ever seen."I found it near the park, and thought of you," He said.I was overwhelmed by his generosity. The last gift I got was from my mom.It was a silver necklace with a wolf pendant, and I still had it, it was my only reminder of her. "Thank you, I love it. Do you think I can name it?""Sure.""Hmm, let me think. Bluey! Yes, that's a perfect name. Look at his blue wings, it's the same color as his body. Don't you think it's pretty?""Yeah, just like you.""Oh, hush. Come on, Bluey, let's play together. I can't wait for you to meet Eliza. She's the sweetest girl ever. You guys would be best friends.""Do you have any pets, little wolf?""No. My old alpha would never allow it. But, I have a secret friend.""Is that so?" I could detect the anger in his voice even if he tried to hide it. There was a slight growl, and his eyes darkened."Yup. He's a rabbit and his name is Jack. He's white and has
J A D E I was sitting in my room, reading a book while Bluey was in his cage, sleeping soundly. The next morning, Markov brought a huge cage and all the bird necessities. He was surprised that Bluey was already eating fruit from my hand, but I told him it was because I was feeding him the first day."What are you doing in here? Why aren't you with your friends?" I asked, closing my book and looking at Eliza. She was wearing a pair of black leggings and a crop top. Her long, blond hair was braided into two braids. She had her usual black eyeliner on and a small amount of makeup. She was dressed ready to go outside."I came to see if you wanted to join us. We're going to the clubhouse. We have a bar and a pool table. You'll like it." She offered."Really? You're inviting me out with you?""Yeah, you've been locked in this room for too long. Plus, Markov won't stop talking about you, so this will shut him up for a bit," she said, making me laugh."You're not going to tell me that I'm no
J A D EI haven’t seen or spoken to Markov in a week, he has been avoiding me, and I have been locked in the bedroom since that night.A few nights ago, I was walking around the house, and I saw Markov. He was sitting at the dining table, staring at the wall.I was about to say something, but he raised his hand and pointed at the stairs, signaling me to leave.I could sense his anger, and I didn't want to push him. I didn’t understand why he was angry at me for what happened that night. Or was he angry at himself for letting me see that side of him?I came down the stairs to have a glass of milk as I couldn’t sleep. It was currently 12 in the midnight and I was shocked to find Markov sitting on the kitchen counter, downing a whole bottle of alcohol down his throat.I cleared my throat, making my presence known. He didn't look up or acknowledge me, he simply kept on drinking."Markov, we need to talk," I said, in a stern voice."There is nothing to talk about. Go back to bed," He repli
