Dinner and An Interrogation

Lena saw me look over at them and patted the empty seat next to her indicating to the seat she had indeed saved for me.

I walked over to the table and smiled at everybody. It was a weak smile, but a smile nonetheless. They returned my smile, but theirs seemed to be even more tense than my own.

“I’m going to go and grab my food really quick and then I’ll be right back." I let them know.

I walked over to the end of the food line and waited my turn. When I reached the front I grabbed my food and hurried back over to the table with my friends and my dad.

I put my tray down on the table and climbed into the seat next to Lena.

“Hey guys!” I tried sounding as cheery as possible.

After all, I was getting ready to leave for an undetermined amount of time when I had never spent more than a day maybe two away from home.

“Hey girl!” Lena said and nudged me with her elbow while smiling.

“Hey! Thanks for saving me a seat.” I replied back.
