Ally

last update Last Updated: 2021-06-16 04:50:50

He had just massacred a whole orphanage and was quite possibly the worst being to walk the earth.  Yet, here she was walking down the steps, trailing behind him, doing as she was told giving him exactly what he wanted.

You really have no choice Alyssa. Do it for the kid and Miss Clarke.  You are honestly about to do what every adult warns every child.  Do not get into cars with strangers.  Too many people have died because of you today.  Get in the damn car.

The worst part is even though she had just met him today.  He was no stranger.  She knew exactly what he was and what he was capable of.  The crazy part is, she was not afraid of him.  He pissed her off.  He disgusted her.  But, being close to him stirred up the animal inside of her.  She wished that she didn’t feel comfort in his arms.  She had found it laying there on the kitchen floor, surrounded by carnage.  Maybe this was where she was supposed to be.

Is Drake the home I have been looking for? This thing inside me is screaming for him.  Sounds about right Ally. You being this horrible thing, with an appetite for human flesh and world obliteration.

Her stomach turned at the thought of Jeremy’s flesh in her stomach.  She knew it couldn’t be possible.  She had thrown up everything since last Christmas into that trash bin.  The worst part is it wasn’t the taste that grossed her out, it was the fact that she enjoyed the taste.   Now here she was climbing into his limo. Living in New York she saw limos every day.  But, she had never been inside one.  Sliding into the back she thanked slender man.  He looked at her curious and thrown off by the simple gesture of kindness.  There was a single Magnolia flower in a long stem glass sitting next to a crystal bottle and some crystal glasses.  Drake noticed her looking at the bottle.

“Would you like something to drink.  It’s a malt whiskey.” He reached.

“No. Ahem. No… thank you.” She refused to look at him.  Sitting arms crossed she stared out the window and watched the buildings slowly become less run down.

After a few minutes of awkward silence.  She shifted her body and faced him.

“What I want is to have never met you.  To wake up from this in my bed. Have all this be a prolonged version of a nightmare I’ve had almost every night since I was twelve.  To not have just went cannibal on someone I had just had a conversation with this morning.  To not be sitting here with you, against my will, playing into whatever game it is your playing.  But, here I am—“ she leaned forward and pulled the glass cork off the top of the bottle of whiskey took a chug of it and placed the bottle between her legs.  It burned going down, she welcomed the warmth.  It felt like an embrace from the inside and she would take any comfort at the moment.

“Here I am. So now what?  What will happen when someone finds all those bodies.  AJ was being picked up tomorrow.  People are going to figure this out and then they are going to be looking for someone.  Probably me.  I’ll be the first to spill the beans on you. Then what? How does this play out in your head?”

Drake leaned in close to her and whispered in her ear, “None. Of. That. Matters.”

He paused his lips were inches from hers and she thought he was going to try to kiss her again.  Instead he grabbed the crystal bottle, sat back in his seat and tipped it back.

How could it not matter? He would have to be worried about getting in trouble.

“It matters. They mattered. People don’t just get away with murder.  I don’t care how rich and powerful you are in this city.”  She watched as the grey left his eyes and she was staring into the black eyes she had seen in the mirror.  The burning eyes. The non-human eyes.

“I’m not people.  Sooner you let go of your past the better Ally. It will make shit so much easier.  It will make you feel so much better.  Just let your previous life go.  Was it really that great anyways?”  He grabbed the magnolia from the vase and handed it to her.

She twisted the stem in her hand.  Lifted it to her nose, closed her eyes and breathed in the fragrance.  How could something so beautiful still seem so beautiful surrounded by so much ugly.  He wasnt though...ugly.  He may have been one of the best looking men she had ever seen.

That comment should have hurt her feelings.  It didn’t though because he had a point.  What about her life leading up until now was so great she wanted to keep?

You could start over Ally. Be someone.  Someone important it sounds.  But what good would that importance be with no one to share it with?

“You’re special Alyssa.”  Her thoughts where interrupted by his velvet voice.

“You keep saying that, other than being what ruins the world, what exactly makes me special?” She tossed the flower at him and it fell just by his side. “You know the nightmare I have?”

“Mmhmm.” He picked up the flower and placed it back in the vase.

“That world had nothing special.  There were no magnolia flowers.  No crisp autumn breeze.  The world was miserable and it was my fault.  How can I be ok with letting that happen?”  She felt tears well in her eyes and that frustrated her.  He was watching her like she was a fragile vase.

Don’t you dare give him the pleasure of seeing you cry.

Blinking she felt a tear drop and she quickly wiped her face and turned to the window.

“Even the Dinosaurs met their demise.  There are no fresh starts without bitter ends.  There is beauty in the darkness as well, you’re proof of that.”

The car came to a stop in front of one of the tallest brick buildings in the city.  Drake opened his own door, again at the surprise of slender man.  He walked around to Ally’s door and stood patiently as Ally took in the building. His building, now hers as well.

Of course he lives in a place like this. What were you expecting a dark cave, with bats, goblins and demons cowering over fire pits?

“Where’s the gate to hell?” she joked and realized it was the first she had smiled all day.  He ignored her sarcasm of course.

“Welcome home.”  He gently placed his hand on the small of her back and for once Ally didn’t recoil.  She let him lead her into the building.

She had been here before in this dark miserable place. Now she stood in the middle of Central Park staring at the naked trees almost as if she could make the blossoms bloom. She knew that it wasn't just the park, that beyond the dead trees and overgrown grass the whole city would look just as void of life as these trees. She had an unmistakable knowledge that it was all her doing. That she was responsible for the death of millions of people. There seemed to be nothing she could do about it; it was her destiny to destroy this place and its people. After all they were only humans she should not pity them. They ha
