Chapter 4

When I woke up, I was lying in a hospital bed. Touching my flat stomach, I could tell that I had lost the child.

My heart felt like it was being stabbed. Tears gathered in my eyes.

Next to my bed, Julian said hoarsely, “Why didn’t you tell me you were pregnant?”

I turned to look at him coldly.

On the day my grandmother died, I had fainted. Evie was worried about my health, so she asked the doctor to give me a full examination. That was when we found out I was expecting.

I never planned to tell Julian about the pregnancy. He did not love me, so he would not love my child. I wanted to raise the baby alone, but now I had lost it too.

Within a few short days, I had lost two members of my family.

It was suffocating. I could barely breathe.

Seeing my tears, Julian said in a pained voice, “Don’t be sad, Molly. We’re still young. We’ll have other kids in the future. Your body is still weak from the miscarriage, and crying is bad for you.”
