The incident happened so quickly that no one could stop him.

In that photo, I looked sweet and vibrant.

Christopher had a vacant expression on his face. He suddenly reached out and touched my wedding ring in the photo, the one he had once called cheap.

The other matching ring was with him, but he found it embarrassing and never wore it.

Laughing and crying all at once, he collapsed to the ground, muttering repeatedly, "Phoebe, you’re so cruel. You really used death to punish me."

Christopher’s breakdown at my funeral spread like wildfire online. He shut himself off from the world, refusing to see anyone.

I watched as he rummaged through the trash, pulling out discarded food and mechanically shoving it into his mouth.

Some of the food was covered in dirt from a broken flower pot, but he did not notice, muttering as he ate, "Phoebe, why haven’t you come back to cook for me yet?"

I floated above, unsure what to make of the situation.
