I just picked out my briefcase and had been sitting in my apartment for the past hour, waiting to see if I'd hear as much as a key jingle in the hallway but not a single noise came from her room.

And she wasn't in the office either cause I'd been there. There was the option of texting to know why she wasn't at work— as her boss, but honestly? Since when had I been a boss to her? The company didn't even matter and the only reason I was there at first was to get closer to her.

I stared at the suitcase one last time and sighed. Today was the last time I'd be in this room for this long, waiting. The ball was in three days and though I had a plan of my own, I wasn't quite sure I could squeeze Alaina into it if she didn't want me.

That was the only difference— if she didn't want me.
