Evening ....

Athena's POV

"Just Join your mother and I in the lab, I don't know what you were thinking about going into the Military" My dad said and I sighed for the umpteenth time.

"Dadd" I whined 

"I thought we already talked about this and we came to an agreement," I said.

"I'm just saying, no issue" he replied.

"Besides I don't remember coming to an agreement of any sort with you" he said and I rolled my eyes to the back of my head and took my seat.

He's actually not my biological dad , he told me that himself.

According to him he was neighbors  with my real parents while they were alive , my mother died  just after giving birth to me and my dad died in an accident when I was four.

Because they were close, he decided to adopt me.

Deep down in me I noticed that the story  behind my parents death wasn't just that , but what can I say .

I really don't have any memories of my parents , it's like as I try to recall it goes away as soon as it comes.

I grew up as a Castillo. I knew my roots were in the Philippines but I grew up as an American.

My adopted dad is a scientist, professor in chemistry, same with my mom and he really wanted me to follow in that path but I wanted something different.

I have this deep need of defending something deep in me but I couldn't quite place my hand on what it was.

Although I didn't tell anyone, I noticed I have some features that weren't normal , like hearing stuffs from far away. Ever since I was little I had sharp hearing. I could hear the heartbeat of someone else even across the room.

I don't find it weird though.

That's why I decided to join the military, although I feel fulfilled there but deep down in me I knew that wasn't the Ultimate , I knew I was built for something much more although I don't know what is.

"Dad, you promised to support whatever I chose. I wonder why we're still having this talk" I said.

"Come on honey let the poor girl rest" Mom said walking into the house..

"Mom," I called, standing up to hug her.

"How are you my darling, I missed you so much"

"I missed you too," I said with a wide smile. I really did miss home.

I just got back from a mission we went on for the past three months .

"I can't believe you'll pester her for this , just immediately she got back" mom said

"I know right," I added with a small laugh.

"She only just got back, can you be a little more sensitive? " she said turning to dad and he raised his hands up in surrender.

"You ladies can go on and gang up against me" 

"Alright fine , whatever you say " he said and we all laughed.

"I should go to my room now , I've got some things to attend to " I said standing up and she nodded.

"Alright, I'll call you down for dinner in a bit" she said and I nodded as I walked away.

Later in the night at 10:00pm....

"Help me help me" I heard a lady scream, I was standing across the road from where she was I could only just see a part of her face and it was blurry because she was covered by a guy .

He was holding her and was bent over her neck.

"Please help me " she screamed again in tears and from her voice she sounded like she was in deep pain.

I really wanted to just move over and help her but it was like a force just kept me rooted to that spot and I couldn't move.

I couldn't even talk, I just kept staring.

I watched as the guy holding her let go of her and she slumped lifelessly to the ground. She was bleeding furiously but from what I could see it was from her neck.

The guy holding her turned to face me and his mouth was filled with blood , I saw two extended teeth at each side of his teeth.

Within the twinkling of an eye , before the scream could come out of my mouth he had already disappeared.

Shit!!!

I cursed as I sat up on the bed abruptly , I suddenly became all sweaty and I began to hyperventilate as I stood up from the bed.

I was really soaked with sweat , so I reached for the air conditioner and turned it on.

What is this feeling I'm having, this is the second time I'm having that kind of dream this week, creatures like that don't exist right?!.

They're just mere fictitious characters and they don't exist , or is that dream meant to symbolize something I'm not aware of?!.

Is this about my background?!. Is there something I'm meant to be doing that I'm not ?!.

As I placed the room trying to read meaning to my recent alarming nightmares, my eyes caught the cupboard where my clothes were and like there was a sudden pull of attraction I walked towards it and opened the cupboard, I dropped slowly and sat on  the floor and pulled out a box , box of my biological parents old stuff.

I've been so busy with life I hadn't really thoroughly gone through their stuff , I just felt like it was a heap of used clothes  , I didn't feel the need to until now.

I folded my legs sitting on the floor as I pulled the box closer to me and opened it.

There wasn't really anything special there, just a couple of old clothes. I sighed tiredly.  Just as I was about to close the box my eyes caught a brown book , more like a diary and kind of tattered.

I reached for it and brought it out. It was really dusty so I used one of the old clothes to clean the front cover.

I opened the first page and a picture fell from it . 

 I picked it up and looked at it with creased brows.

   It was a picture of a man and a woman. I turned to the back. "Matt and Althea Castillo 1994" was written behind.

A small smile crept to my lips as  I caressed the picture slowly . So this is what they looked like?

  Why  haven't I really given thought to looking into the content of this box until now?

I reached for my bed and placed the picture on it. I should frame this!.

I continued opening the pages of the book but they were just pure white and empty.

I sighed , my hands  dropping to the book. 

Maybe the whole point of looking into the box was to find the picture.

All of  a sudden my hands began to glow really brightly and so did the first page of the book, or maybe not!.

  What in the world is going on?

My mouth dropped in awe as some writing began to come up on the book, I wanted to take my hands off the book and scream out my lungs in fear but for some reasons I couldn't , I just watched in shock and as soon as it stopped I lifted the book up to my face to see what was written there.

You shiver when you always think of,

A werewolf in the night,

They eat human flesh so yuck and sticky,

But it’s just in your mind

You might think there’s a creepy castle,

Lost somewhere in time,

You might think it has ghosts all around,

But it’s just in your mind. 

Do you believe in vampires? ,

Those creatures with long white fangs,

You might think they drink human blood,

But it’s just in your mind.

You might believe in witches,

They laugh with a scary look,

You might think they have black cats,

Or a bat to cook for food.

You can imagine all sorts of creepy things,

That makes you shudder with fright,

But please don’t yell mommy when you see them,

Cause it's all in your mind.

My eyes widened immediately as I threw the book to the other side of the room terrified.

What in the world just happened?!!.
