Chapter Fifty-Eight

I woke up a little earlier to put things in order before the rest of the house woke up, and by the rest of the house, I mean Tessa.

It's her birthday today, and I was planning something not too elaborate but also worth remembering.

Hayden kicked against the party. As they spent the day sulking and mourning Tessa's mom, losing her took a lot from them, and I understand that.

But not anymore; a new sheriff has arrived. I was just going to test the waters with the small family and friends gathering; maybe I will go for something elaborate next year. Well, it all depends on how things turn out today.

"Wow, Sarah, the batter tastes wonderful," I said, smiling. Licking my index finger.

Thank the goddess for Sarah; she is so helpful. I have no idea what I would have done without her. I was peeling the potato when I heard a sound coming from the stairs.

"Eresthai," she called out, and we exchanged looks.

"No, no, no," I whispered while quickly heading to the staircase.
