Chapter 5:

Sage's P.O.V.

I am Sig Holton, the unluckiest of them all. I hadn’t realized the extent of my misfortune until now. First, my wolf was slow to emerge, then I was betrayed, and now the Moon Gods have rewarded me by making me one of the pack’s guards and fleet. What has happened? How did all this occur during my first shift? I have now lost my virginity to someone I don’t even know; he’s just a vile and despicable person. I look around and find myself in the human world, having broken another pack law... What will they do with me now?

I should have never trusted that whore, Ella. She had planned to drug me and mix something else into my drink that made me lose consciousness and go with the first person I met. Her scheme succeeded; she is certainly the one who will cast me out of the pack and leave me homeless.

I broke down as I stood outside in the pouring rain. Inside, it was definitely not human; I kept berating myself in pain: “What have you done, you fool? What did you do?”

I’m still naked in this weather. I swear those inside are harsher than wild animals. I quickly dressed and took refuge behind a large tree to shield myself from the rain.

I slept with a stranger who threw me outside in this weather, treating me like a prostitute and discarding me. I deserved this and more; I gave my virginity to someone I don’t know.

I continued to cry bitterly, mourning what happened and what will come. Sheltering under the tree from the rain, I remembered Jack and that vixen Ella, realizing they are the root of all my troubles. It must be a conspiracy from both of them.

I need to return to the pack before anyone notices my disappearance, but after this time, they will definitely notice. Should I go back to the pack and risk exposing what Ella did, or should I find a place to stay starting now? Certainly, I will be expelled, possibly whipped, or imprisoned for a thousand years under harsh conditions.

I decided to stay here in the human world. Due to everything that happened, I felt dizzy and as if I might fall. Perhaps the exposure to rain without clothes affected my wolf's health. If my body contracts wolf fever, it will be unable to recover for three months. But my pale face, shivering body, elevated temperature, and tear-red eyes told me this was wolf fever!

I was about to walk a short distance in search of another place when suddenly, bright lights and loud noises appeared. I felt my legs grow heavy, and then I collapsed unconscious.

The next morning...

I opened my eyes slowly, lying on a bed with an IV drip, feeling extremely exhausted. Someone was sitting beside me, but I couldn’t recognize him due to my weak vision. This is what happens when werewolves contract wolf fever, and it could develop into full-blown lycanthropy, leaving me bedridden forever. As soon as the man saw me open my green eyes, he smiled. He had a very calm smile, with blue eyes and pleasant features. He was undoubtedly of human origin; I couldn’t detect any scent.

"Are you feeling better now? You’re very weak and exhausted, and your temperature is elevated," the man asked with concern.

I tried to move from the bed but felt dizzy and as if I might fall again. My condition seemed to be worsening. I responded in a faint and pained voice, "I’m not entirely well, but I can breathe and utter a few words."

The man’s face frowned. He was wearing a white jacket with a stethoscope draped around his neck. His attire was similar to a priest’s robes, but I recognized it as a doctor’s outfit.

He winced and moved closer to me, placing the stethoscope on my chest. With concern, he repeated, "This is the first time I've seen such weak heartbeats and such an extremely high temperature. You’re fighting for your life."

He doesn’t know that werewolves can have their heartbeats disappear and still remain alive. We can also endure extremely high body temperatures, but all of this makes the wolf inside us very weak. I even heard Allura groan in pain, "I’m in pain, Sig."

Allura is also extremely weak. She has been suffering from wolf fever for less than three days and will likely be exhausted, unable to perform her duties for at least a year.

The man sat beside me again, placing his hand on mine, but he quickly withdrew it as if it had been burned: "Oh my God, you’re burning up. Don’t worry, I won’t leave you."

He continued, "I was returning to the hospital because of an emergency when I suddenly saw you in front of me. I stopped and found you unconscious. I carried you here immediately. I’m Dr. Adam."

I read in the Moon Gods’ sacred texts that when one is in dire trouble, a Moon Guardian appears to help us without asking for anything in return, often appearing angelic. This doctor must be my guardian angel.

A weak, pale smile crossed my face, and I tried to speak, intending to tell him I was Sig Holton. However, as I decided to start anew, I needed to choose a different name for my new world. I replied with a weary voice, "Emma Carter."

He smiled at me with a charming grin, running his fingers through his blond hair as he said, "Don’t worry, I won’t leave you, Emma."

He left, and as my eyes closed, I was unable to lift my eyelids. I fell into a deep sleep.
