Chapter 3:

Sage P.O.V

Today marks my first shift working for the pack, especially after my transformation and receiving my wolf. The Alpha of the pack chose me to be one of the pack’s army for protection and war. I've gained a great status among everyone. My massive and strong wolf has made me very proud of myself. Today, my shift will be in the largest pack adjacent to the Grey Wolf Pack, the Silver Moonlight Pack.

Daemon, the Beta of the pack, who will be on duty with me, informed me that something significant happened in the Silver Moonlight Pack. I was curious to know what had happened. This would be my first time going there, and I needed to be aware of what was going on and why this particular duty was chosen, especially since there was no war or attack that required more defense numbers.

I asked curiously, "What happened there, Daemon?"

Daemon began to recount the long story, and I listened intently to every word, "You know that the Alpha of the Silver Moonlight Pack has a daughter, 'Daenerys,' and her mate was supposed to be her cousin, Kaos. But what happened?"

I asked in astonishment, "What happened?"

He continued, "Overnight, the daughter of the leader and Alpha of the Silver Moonlight Pack ran away with the leader of the Black Mountain Pack, known as 'Kazius.' Her father managed to bring her back, but discovered today that she had given birth to Kazius's child. Today, Daenerys gave birth to her first daughter from Kazius of the Black Mountain Pack after their escape and pursuit."

My heart trembled at the story, and I asked curiously, "She broke all the laws. She married someone other than her mate, and he was also a hybrid. We all know that this pack is monstrous and that everyone in it is a hybrid; they are against the laws of the Moon Goddess."

Daemon continued, "It is said that their offspring is strange in appearance and seems to possess a special power."

I replied sarcastically, "The daughter of Kazius and a werewolf would undoubtedly have a special power, she would be different."

Daemon added, continuing, "They have restricted the child’s power, especially since she is a hybrid. Her power will only manifest when she reaches 21 years old."

My next question was, "What happened then, Daemon?"

He continued, "Kaos took revenge, especially since his mate left him. He went to his uncle, angrily proclaiming, 'Your daughter gave birth to that Kazius, to that hybrid.' Kaos decided to kill the child, justifying that she is a hybrid and a child of a powerful hybrid werewolf and an original-blood werewolf."

I felt anger rising; I couldn’t understand how they could think of this. Killing a child is a crime against everyone, and the Moon Goddess forbids this. Exile should be the only punishment.

I asked Daemon again, "And what was the outcome? Surely they won’t get rid of a one-year-old child!"

Daemon replied, "No one can. Alpha Gamma sent a message demanding that Kazius, Daenerys, and the child be handed over to him. This way, his daughter would be exiled from her pack and welcomed in the Black Mountain Pack. The Silver Moonlight Pack requested more members from neighboring packs for protection and defense, fearing Alpha Gamma or any havoc that might ensue if something happened."

My heart sank into my stomach. The Silver Moonlight Pack, one of the largest and strongest packs, feared one person. He must be powerful indeed. I was curious to go to my shift and see this powerful figure. Until then, I asked Daemon more about him: "Do you know Gamma?"

Daemon laughed and then added seriously, "You were added for protection and don't know Gamma? He's the strongest and most ferocious. Alpha Gamma is a quad hybrid, a massive wolf unlike any we've seen before. His fur is jet black, and his eyes are mismatched, his gaze instills fear in those around him."

This description was enough to make me stay away. What would happen if I got close to such a person? I don't like breaking pack laws; I don't care about any hybrid and am proud of my pure bloodline and fidelity. I follow the Moon Goddess's rules faithfully.

I pushed these thoughts aside and told Daemon, "I'll be there, Daemon. Now, I'll take a little rest."

I went to take a rest, and just as I was about to fall asleep, Ella came, tears streaming down her face, pleading, "Please, Sage, don't tell anyone what happened."

I didn't turn to her, but she fell at my feet, kissing them, tears falling, "They'll expel me from the pack, Sage, and my mate will abandon me. It was a mistake, please."

I looked at her with half an eye, but I didn't want anyone else to suffer as I had. Surely, her mate would be sad and heartbroken, so I wouldn't tell anyone.

I looked at her with half an eye and said, "Okay, I won't tell anyone, but I don't want to see you around me or near me. Understood?"

Ella smiled, drying her tears, and said happily, "Thank you, thank you, Sage, for what you did. You have a big heart."

She was about to leave but returned, holding a cup of juice, offering it to me with joy, saying, "This is for you. I made it with love."

I accepted the juice. I was feeling tired, and this juice would help... After drinking it, I was about to sleep when Jack arrived, looking affected and sad. He said with regret, "I'll accept anything you do, except leaving me."

They were both determined not to let me rest. I needed to rest before going to the neighboring pack for my shift, and I couldn't handle all this drama from two hypocrites.

I spoke firmly and seriously, "But I will leave you, Jack... You're not my mate!"

Jack was shocked. Yes, he thought he would be my mate, as did the whole pack. But unfortunately, my wolf, Alura, told me he wasn't my mate, and I also wasn't attracted to him. His betrayal made it easier not to be sad about him.

Jack asked, saddened and angry, "Who is your mate, Sage?"
