When Page Brooks agrees to marry Rowan Cannon in an arranged marriage by their influential grandparents, she is met with a declaration on their wedding night from Rowan that there will be no love or affection between them. After a year of keeping his distance through end business trips, Rowan suddenly comes home and start spending all his time at home. Page begins to notice a change in her estranged husband's behavior as they get to know each other better and begin to fall for each other. Why did Rowan come home? Page has bigger questions to solve as she finds her heart turned between the man she married who ran away for a year and Will Garrett, a man she mate on numerous occasions who seems to have fallen for her, unaware that she is the wife of his close friend.
View MoreShe glanced over to Rowan who was being unhelpful as he leaned on the edge of the car calling someone.
She sighed. This morning was their wedding, She had just married this guy, yet he seemed so absent already. then again, she knew nothing about him.
This entire marriage was set up by his grandfather who provided This house as well.
Rowan finally ended his call., looking distinctly unhappy, “I can do this myself.” He said to the driver as he took one of his bags and dragged it inside.
Page followed Roran inside, annoyed. "Fine, this is a marriage of convenience, and I know your grandfather forced you, but why do you have to act like this?."
Rowan stopped in his tracks, his jaw tightening. "I'm already annoyed enough as it is. I don’t know why my Grandfather feels like he has to control every inch of my life.
If not for his threat to remove me from the company…” he glared at Page “I wouldn’t be here with you. Just leave me alone, Page," he said coldly.
Ignoring his dismissal, Page pressed on. "You can't just sulk around and expect everything to magically get better. I also got roped into all this, we are married now, We need to at least try to make this work."
Rowan turned to face her, his eyes cold. "Anything I do is none of your business. This marriage is nothing more than a contract. There will be no love and affection between us."
Page stood there, shocked by his bluntness. She stared at him, speechless, as he stormed upstairs, leaving her alone.
Rowan scuffed as he got to the top of the stairs, surprised at her reaction, it was calmer than he expected. He knew nothing about Page but he had concluded that any girl his grandfather picks will be nothing more than another one of his subordinates.
“She probably texts him every day to update him on my actions,” he thought to himself. “All she has to gain here is money, and seeing as how she has successfully married into my family, she will. But that is all I will give her.”
Page sat by herself at the dining table, sipping some wine. The house was quiet, the only sound was the faint clock ticking on the wall.
Even though she barely knew Rowan, she had at least expected an effort to make the piece, she sighed, worried that her life would be war in her own home from now on.
“I also had no choice in this marriage,” she said out loud “So why do I have to receive all your anger”
She had hoped for something more from the man she was now married to, even if it was just a semblance of companionship. Instead, she was left with the emptiness of a large, cold house and the weight of Rowan's words still hanging in the air.
Was it too much to hope for a connection, a small spark, kindness? The wine did little to soothe her.
Page’s eyelids grew heavy. The wine, combined with the emotional exhaustion of the day, began to take its toll. Before she realized it, she had fallen asleep at the table, her head resting on her folded arms.
The soft light of dawn filtered through the curtains and splashed on her, waking her. Page stirred, lifting her head slowly. She blinked, disoriented, as the events of the previous day came rushing back to her. It was morning already. Her wedding night has passed.
She felt a crick in her neck from the awkward sleeping position and rubbed it absentmindedly.
Page turned to look up as she heard someone coming down the stairs, she turned to see Rowan, fully dressed in a suit, her breath catching in her throat.
There was Rowan, walking down the stairs with an effortless grace that made her heart skip a beat.
Dressed in a sharp, tailored suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and lean frame, Rowan looked every bit the part of a powerful, confident man. His dark hair was neatly combed back.
His eyes were still cold and distant but they were Captivating still, just like how he was the first day she met him. She would be lying if she didn’t say she wasn’t attracted to Rowan at first sight.
unable to look away Page stared at him till he reached the bottom of the stairs.
Rowan paused, briefly meeting her gaze. There was a fleeting softness in his eyes, a hint of something more beneath. Page’s heart fluttered.
But as quickly as the moment came, it passed. Rowan looked away, his expression returning to its usual detachment. Page sat up.
“Rowan,” she called out, her voice still thick with sleep. He didn’t respond, didn’t even glance in her direction. “Rowan, good morning,” she tried again, a bit louder this time, hoping to catch his attention.
But Rowan remained silent, his expression unreadable as he picked up his briefcase and keys. He didn’t acknowledge her presence, didn’t say hello. He was already halfway out the door before she could muster the energy to stand up.
“Have a good day at work,” she said with a sigh.
She waited, holding her breath for any sign of recognition, any small gesture that he had heard her.
Rowan paused briefly at the door, but instead of turning to her, he simply adjusted his tie and stepped outside. The door closed behind him with a soft click, leaving Page standing in the middle of the dining room, the silence once again enveloping her.
Page sank back into the chair, her mind racing. The house was already beginning to feel more like a prison than a home.
EpilogueAgain, nothing beats family.Yes, there would always be fights, arguments and trials but then again, what are relationships without all of that. Quarrels being settled after a little period of distancing from one another, just a little, only makes the bond between them stronger. That, I say, is a fact very well proven if you in anyway doubt this theory.“How could you have thought that I hide such a sensitive information from you without ever planning to tell you at some point?” Page asked Rowan in disbelief."Well, you didn't tell me yourself did you? I had to find out from someone else,” Rowan replied, pissed but not screaming too loudly. “Why are you seeing it that way?”"Because it's what it is Cupcake. How else do you want me to take it?” He asked, taking off his hand that was on his forehead and looking at her. They were in their bedroom, Page seated on the bed, facing Rowan while he was standing in front of the wall, his back leaning against it.“I didn't tell you th
A year and six months later.Happiness is a free will gift of nature and is bestowed only on those who really want it and are ready to wield it. Happiness is not just a word but a magic power. Nothing beats happiness and self-satisfaction. Life happens to anyone. Death could come to claim anyone, anytime. The moment happiness is chosen, freedom has been chosen. Finding one's asylum is of paramount importance. Clinging onto that one thing that makes you happy and counting one's blessings despite some unfortunate happenings in our lives is beautiful and comforting. Nothing beats utmost happiness. It's beauty shimmers that it is both describable and ineffable. If there was anyone who had found what she needed most in life, happiness, it was Page Cannon, a mother of two cute babies, a boy and a girl, twins. Some days after the romantic, slow sex she had with Rowan on their rose scented bed, she started throwing up. This was after her grandad had been buried. When Rowan had broken the ne
A hand stretched to where she had sat, Page picked up the small envelope Will had dropped before leaving. The square shaped envelope was white, the little designs on it, gold. Into her bag she dropped it and walked out of the place.A sad feeling sat at the center of her heart as she wished nature would have been nice enough to not have made them meet in the way and time they had met. She was saddened by the fact that things had to go the way they did and she could not be friends with her husband's best friend. It was disheartening. Sadly, the hands of time could not be turned and past actions could not be rewritten or changed. A concise moment of thoughts and she finalized that all the blame was to be accorded to them, the sometimes despicable humans and not nature because undeniably so, humans have will in the palm of their hands. Decisions and actions; rights and wrongs; good and evil; all rest in the palm of our hands so why constantly blame nature… or fate for some of the predic
Rowan forced Page out of bed on Tuesday morning and stayed in the bathroom as she took her bath to make sure she didn't go back to bed when he left the room. She had pleaded with him to let her stay at home but he didn't think it was a good idea. He reckoned that they had had three days of rest for themselves and it was time to get back to work.“You’re a CEO Page," he had said to her as he rolled off their duvet from her body for the third time. He had driven her to work after they had had breakfast and on the way, revealed to her that their head chef was his nanny he had told her about. She cared so much for him that she opted to be his head chef instead of leaving him when he was grown to the point that he could take care of himself. Page was shocked at his revelation. She had hit him and scolded him for not letting her in on that kind of information early enough for her to reverence her as she ought to. Making a mental note to thank her for all that she did for Rowan, she retreat
“Wear the blue dress, it would suit the cool atmosphere better,” Rowan replied to Page's question, buttoning up his blue shirt before putting on his white, pristine loose-fitting trouser.“Okay baby," Page said as she put down the other dress she had in her hand on the bed.She decided to do her light makeup before putting on her dress: pigmented nude eyes with smokey creases and ombre, glossy lips. With ease, she rocked the dress Rowan had picked out between the two she had held out for him to see. They had gone up to the master bedroom to take their bath after Page had released him from their tight hug, him carrying her in his arms till he was in front of the room. They had showered differently, Page going in first before him. He had proposed they go on an outing and had told Page to make a decision on the places she wanted to go. As she hadn't made her choice yet, she said nothing about it, thinking hard of the places she wanted to explore together with her husband. “So… where hav
“My God!” Rowan screamed then released a breath as he jiggled her breasts in his hands and bit her nipples not too hard through her t-shirt. “And you are… you're my Queen. You're my mind blower, my ambrosia, my aphrodisiac. You're my soulmate, my soul's captor and I have to confess that you have rendered me completely powerless around you,” he said softly like he was confessing something which he wanted no one else to hear.Groaning, he took his hands off her breasts and brought his face out of the soace between her breasts. His senses were slowly slipping out from him.“I want to take your tee off Cupcake," he said, snaking his hands underneath her t-shirt and twisting her nipples in the most teasing way ever.Page moaned softly. Music to his ears they were.“Do whatever you want baby," Page uttered, squirming at how good his hands felt on the most sensitive parts of her breasts.“I love it when you call me baby, it sounds so sexy coming from you. I'm your baby,” he said as he took
“If you keep moaning and grinding on me like that, I fear I might loose my senses and control completely Cupcake," Rowan said in a seductive tone against her lips.Trying to catch her breath, she shook her head.“Loose them Rowan, that's what I want," she said and slammed her lips against his, her growing needs evident in every movement of her lips.Rowan kissed her back, matching up her energy with his once again before finally pulling away.“We need to stop Cupcake. Sex this morning would drain you as you know you had nothing tangible to eat last night. That aside, we just made up,” Rowan reasoned as he held her face so that she would focus on what he was saying and not try to reclaim his lips.“I am not complaining about that Rowan. I want it,” she said in a grumble-like manner."Definitely, you would get it in due time baby but what I do not want is rushing any of this processes. We have a life time to explore ourselves Cupcake but not today," Rowan embraced her when her head drop
It was ten in the morning and the feeling of waking up had never been more satisfying. Rowan smiled with a refreshing thrill as he opened his eyes, his dreams were finally coming to play. Waking up to watch Page sleep was his first blessing of the morning. His left hand was outstretched across the pillow and had her head on it. He had his other hand over her waist, holding her as close to himself as he could. The memories of the previous night swam into his mind as he moved back a bit to watch Page while his head remained on the pillow. He had thought of giving her her space for the night which led to him walking to his bed after putting on the t-shirt and casual loose fitting trousers he had picked out. Instead of climbing onto the bed as Page had anticipated he would, he had picked up a pillow and walked to his couch. This left Page with a puzzled look invading her features. What does he think he's doing? She had asked herself as she watched him lay on the couch, leaving her to slee
The said audience were both happy and sad that the short romantic drama that had been entertaining them was coming to an end with the kind of ending everyone of them loved and silently approved of. What captivated them the most was that Rowan Cannon, the hottest bachelor of the States had been married for months and none of them had any idea! The men amongst them wished for nothing more than a well deserved win for Rowan whilst the ladies – the hopeful romantics – hummed in admiration of what the end had turned out to be as they watched with dreamy eyes how deeply Rowan loved his wife and held her so close to himself as they wished for something similar to theirs; a love so strong and passionate that not even the strongest forces of nature could break. Looking around with his brown eyes, Rowan knew it was high time they left and gave the staff who were still there the opportunity to lock up and go to their homes. He knew that in one way or the other, they had enjoyed watching the
