I met up with Jen and Selena at the end of the day. We arranged to meet up just outside the school entrance by the time I got there both Jen and Selena were waiting and to my surprise, Chase was there too.
Chase was talking to Jen about something I can’t hear what he is saying as I’m not close enough. As I approached them, he winked at me acknowledging my arrival, and took his leave. Watching him walk away my eyes never leaving him I ask Jen “He didn’t leave because of me, did he?” She looks at her departing brother walking further away. “Oh no he just came to tell me to tell my mom he’s got an emergency football practice, so he’ll be home later.” I feel relieved and disappointed that he’s gone these feelings are so confusing I have never had them over a guy before and I’m intrigued to find out what they mean. I bite my bottom lip watching Chase disappear from our sight and the girls notice what I’m doing. “You like him, don’t you?” Jen questions I go crimson feeling put on the spot. “I don’t know, maybe I’ve never felt like this before, and when I do it’s with a guy I can’t pursue.” “Sav I would rather him date you over her. Nobody in my family likes her” Jen tells me that inside secret and I feel a small sliver of hope. That is even if I have a chance, but looking at myself to her I don’t think I do. “Anyway, I think you guys would make a cuter couple,” Selena says and that gives me some confidence with these mixed feelings I have. We say our goodbyes and plan to meet back here before school starts tomorrow morning. After getting in my car, I sit in the now-emptying parking lot and made a quick phone call before driving home to arrange a start date at my new job. That is another thing off my to-do list for this week. I have arranged my start date for next Saturday which gives me plenty of time to unpack at home and go to the football game next Friday. Once I get off the phone with my boss Heather, I leave the school parking lot and head on home. If I can remember the way home that is. Luckily enough getting home was easier than anticipated I really should have more hope in myself. Arriving back home I see a couple of cars in the driveway, so I park behind the last car, get out, and head on inside. When I open the front door, I see a couple of people unpacking some of our boxes and hanging up our family pictures. Walking further into the house I hear voices coming out of the office. One I recognize as my father’s and the other voice I have never heard before. I stand outside listening in to what is being said “Maxwell it’s fantastic work you have done in our North Carolina office, and I can’t wait to see what you bring to our office.” “Thank you Mr. Lockwood I very much appreciate it.” Wait what? Dad’s boss is here! Now! “Maxwell please call me Stuart we’re family now.” The voice of Dad’s boss comes closer to the door I try to make myself look non-suspicious as the door to the office opens and a tall man with salt and peppered color hair comes out of the room. He turns around and bumps into me. “Oh, pardon me, young lady, well you must be Maxwell’s daughter Savannah.” I look up to see some familiar green eyes but where have I seen them before I can’t think. “Yes, sir hi I’m Savannah.” “Well, you must certainly get your beauty from your mother, and you most definitely got your daddy’s eyes.” I feel my cheeks warm over his comment. “Thank you, Mr. Lockwood, sir, and might I say I’m looking forward to tonight’s dinner party at your home.” “We are looking forward to it ourselves, my wife is excited to meet you after what my daughter has told her about you and a little birdie told me about your music skills, I’m hoping we get to hear you play a song for us tonight.”Wait a minute how did he know about my music? “Of course, sir I’m sure I can arrange something for tonight.” “That’s my daughter for you Stuart she lives for her music, she couldn’t put a guitar down since the age of three." He walks out of his office and stands by his boss oh, great trust my dad to embarrass me now. “Is there a particular song you would like to hear Mr. Lockwood?” Dad's boss thinks for a quick second “Could you play ‘Stand by Me’ by Ben E. King that’s my wife and I’s wedding song.” “Certainly, sir that was the first song I ever learned how to play it would be an honor.” “Let’s keep it between us three for now I would love to surprise my wife with it,” Dad comes and stands next to me and squeezes me into his side. “Yes, sir not a word until tonight.” Dad shakes his boss’ hand “Until tonight, Maxwell.” “Yes, we’re looking forward to it” and then Mr. Lockwood left our house. Sitting down and talking to my dad at the kitchen counter for half an hour abou
Chase P.O.V The emergency practice coach called for after school today turned out to be a restoration, where we had to watch tapes and run some drills for a couple of new plays the coach thought of. Practice overran by forty-five minutes thanks to a couple of fuckers on defense were fucking about. Today is not the day for all this shit. Candace almost getting on my last nerve being so possessive today for no reason and with this emergency practice and now it’s overrunning. Come on man! I have somewhere I have to be, or my mom will kill me. After practice I opt out of having a shower in the locker room, I’ll have it at home it’ll be quicker. Jumping in my car I speed off home so I can get ready for this dinner party my parents insisted on having. I have arrived home with not much time to spare but I’ll be ready when I gotta be. Pulling into the double garage my dad got built for Jen and me for when we passed our driver’s tests. I beat her by four points but who’s counting? Parking
Savannah P.O.V I stand in front of Chase and Jen in total shock. Chase's eyes look three times bigger than they normally are. “You!” “Nice to see you again Chase I hope your practice wasn’t so much of a bother for you with our visit tonight,” I offer him my hand to shake. He clears his throat and takes my hand, raising it to his lips and kissing the back of my hand softly making my cheeks feel warm and the butterflies start flapping uncontrollably around in my stomach. “Your presence here tonight has made up for how my practice went and may I say, you look absolutely beautiful tonight I love that color green on you.” I smile at him for his compliment now realizing where the green looks familiar. His eyes. “Thank you, Chase, that’s very sweet of you,” He doesn’t let go of my hand straight away he just stands there and looks at me. Mr. Lockwood clears his throat as Dad stares at Chase feeling all eyes are on us Chase lets go of my hand as I go and hug Jen. “I take it you gu
We continue with some talk about what has been going on in school when someone announced to the room “Dinner is served if you would follow me to the dining room.” The two of us stood up from the couch waiting to be led into the dining room. I see Mr. Lockwood offer his arm to his wife and Dad comes over and offers his arm to Jen “Miss. Lockwood, may I please have the honor to accompany you to dinner?” Jen smiles and takes Dad’s arm as he winks at me. “Thank you Mr. Blakemore I would love to” My father guides Jen to dinner, and I follow behind when a hand grabs my arm stopping me in my tracks and I turn around to look at Chase. “Savannah, I know we started off on the wrong foot in History class and I’m sorry about that.” I pull my arm out of his grasp "Chase look what happened in History class was just an obvious misunderstanding it’s what your girlfriend has been saying about me all day I am not so forgiving.” “I can’t apologize for Candace’s behavior, but I can for mine and
I can never refuse a chocolate brownie that is my kryptonite in a dessert. “Oh, this looks amazing my compliments to the chef everything has been fantastic did I tell you that brownies are one of my favorites and Savannah’s absolute favorite dessert,” Dad chimes in as I have seen him talking business all night. With what happens next, I think someone has been trying to find out more about me without asking me. That’s not a good look in a guy from my experience. “Thank you for sharing that with us Mr. Blakemore Sir may I ask would Savannah do anything if get given a chocolate brownie?” I elbow Chase in the rib with what he’s just asked my father hearing “oomph” to come out of him I know I got him good. “Well Chase son it all depends; may I ask what for example?” “If I give your daughter a brownie, would I be forgiven for the mistakes I have made to her today?” I cover my face as I feel so embarrassed by this conversation. “I’m certain that if you give her brownies with a pint
Chase P.O.V Sitting next to Jen hearing my parents talk about how they met in college and then started talking about their wedding day. We have heard this story plenty of times in our youth I do not know why they must keep telling it to us. Jen and I are twins, and we can recite their story me playing dad and Jen playing mom. Back when we were kids, we performed their wedding to them one Christmas and I swear that was probably the best gift we could have ever given to our mom. Dad brushed his nose with his finger for some strange reason and then everything clicked into place. Because my eyes have never left Savannah’s since she’s been in my house, I am captivated by her. She stands up and starts walking towards my dad’s guitar how she could tell the difference between my dad’s and mine is a mystery. What is she doing I don’t know but I'm intrigued to find out. She straps the guitar over her shoulder and starts playing a song, and it’s a song I know how to play too. But when she s
WHAT! MY OWN SISTER KNEW. I stand up and start to pace out of anger “Jen I don’t care if you thought it was nothing, we are twins for fuck's sake you should have told me no matter what. We have a bond few people have I told you everything. Why do you think your ex-boyfriend Greg had a black eye the day he broke up with you? I punched him because I saw him with another girl on the beach whilst you were working, and I told you he was no good for you because of what he did. You could have done the same for me in return.” “Chase you’re right I should have done that. But think if I told you what I saw would you have believed me?” She’s right. “Probably not no, I wouldn’t have believed you but that’s beside the point Jen you should have at least tried.” Jen looks down at the phone and at the number “Well I may be better of use to you now, I know who sent the picture,” she looks at me. “Who?” the name she says I don’t believe. “Greg Davenport.” “Greg Davenport as in your ex-boyf
We both start laughing as my sister has me pinned down. Even when we were kids, I could never pin her she has always been too quick, and she can squirm her way out. “Well, you walked in on the first time at the dining room table.” Jen covers her mouth in shock, “Oh my god that would have been your first oh wow.” “Jen it’s all good you didn’t see anything that wasn’t innocent,” I push her off me and sit back up as she rolls over and sits next to me. “So go on, you said three times that’s only one” I sighed rubbing the back of my head. “Well, the second time was after we played Mom and Dad’s song, and the last time was when we were out back after you came in to talk to Greg.” “Wow, I can’t believe I ruined the first, and witnessed the second, which in all honesty I’m not surprised with the chemistry you guys had but whatever, and the third why do I always leave you alone when good shit is happening.” She nudges me, and we both laugh again. Since Savannah came into our lives wit

Chase P.O.VFour years later Well, it’s been four amazing years in San Fransisco. Savannah and I graduated college last week. I got a degree in Business and in Finance, where Savannah got one in English Literature and in Music. Where I double majored in college Savannah had a major in English but a minor in music. We both graduated with high honors. The world is now our oyster. But before we can even think about anything to do with the world and how we wish to change it I am back at the office wanting to speak to Savannah’s father. It is now time we had that discussion I said I planned to have with him back when we were seniors in high school. Fuck that feels like forever ago. I told her father on the night of the Christmasqurade ball that one day I will come to him to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage and today is that day. I have arranged for a meeting with Mr. Blakemore to take place in the company’s board room and I asked my dad to be present during this meeting. I plan fo
It has been a couple of weeks since prom and the big day is approaching quickly. Today we get our yearbooks and get them signed before graduation day that is this Saturday. It’s hard to believe this is our final week in high school. It feels like today is still my first day of school but it’s actually almost my last. Not paying attention to where I was going or who was around me with my yearbook in hand I collide into a big, solid mass of a person knocking my books, my yearbook, and some odd bits of paper all over the floor. Bending down to pick everything up, still not paying attention to who I bumped into, on instinct I do apologize to the person as I start picking up my things. I see the person I bumped into bend down and starts to help me with picking up my things and holds out my English book and my notes to hand back to me. I can’t believe I’ve done this again. “You may need these sweetheart,” Hang on a minute? Did I just? Looking up I see Chase smiling at me as he holds my stuf
We all climb out of the limo and the guys are all holding our arms and escorts us up into the building. Two doormen kindly open the door for us and welcome us to the Crystal Palace and to enjoy our evening. First stop for us as Chase and Lucas recommended is to get our pictures done first so then that way, we don’t look too red faced or sweaty. That is actually not a bad idea if you think about it. We get a bunch of pictures took, we had solo pictures, the six of us together, just the girls, just the guys, and with our dates. I can’t wait to see how the pictures come out because I will be getting a copy of every single one. Entering into the ballroom of the palace we can hear the DJ playing ‘Just Dance’ by Lady Gaga. We walked around couples and across the dancefloor to the only table that is free for us to claim. The girls and I put our purses on the table and hit the dance floor with how good the music is sounding. After a couple of songs, the guys joined us on the dance floor alre
After clipping my bow into place, I have one final look at myself in my bathroom mirror before I step out and show the girls. Walking to the door, putting my hand on the handle I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and open the bathroom door. On the other side of the door, I see Jen and Selena with their phones taking my picture and recording me as I walk out. Putting a huge smile on my face I walk out the bathroom giving the girls a twirl and a cute little princess curtsey I have seen Princess Catherine do before. The girls laugh and comment how incredible I look, and Jen commented on the bow. “How big did you want that thing? Fuck Sav that’s the biggest ass bow I have ever seen stuck on anybody’s ass.” We laugh at her comment as I walk over to my vanity. Sitting down on my stool I put in a pair of my mom’s diamond and pearl drop earrings and her snowflake necklace again. Wearing this necklace makes everything feel like it’s turned in a full circle. Finding out Chase was Wolf behind
Three weeks later Tonight is prom night. The night all the senior girls look forward to the most. Don’t ask me about the guys some look forward to it for other reasons than what it means. The girls and I are getting ready together. We all booked to get our hair and makeup done at a salon today for tonight. We are sat in the chairs getting pampered away, a treat from Selena’s Abuela, as she said no Nieta of hers will not go to prom without having a beauty day at the salon. We all chose to have a French manicure and pedicure, to keep it simple. We also showed our makeup artists pictures of our dresses so they could do our makeup to match our dresses. Jen’s hair shaped her face beautifully. She had a volumized high ponytail with some hair extensions that matched her hair color perfectly with elegant curls and some curls framing her face. To finish the look off she had this black jeweled crystal hair clip she slid into the top part of the ponytail. Jen’s makeup made her look much older t
Walking into the house I see Dad sat on the stairs with what looks like a photo album in his hand. I shut the door behind me and slowly approach him looking at the sad expression on his face as he stares at a photo in the book. When I got closer, he looked up at me with unshed tears in his eyes. When I asked him if everything was okay, he said that everything was fine and he was just living back in the past, and he showed me the page he was looking at in the photo album. It was Mom and Dad’s high school graduation. It was the picture of Mom with her diploma and then Dad with his diploma and under that was the picture of the two of them together. Dad told me the story about how him and Mom met in high school. Hearing what he said was almost a de ja vu. Mom bumped into Dad as she wasn’t watching where she was going, and Dad bent down to help Mom pick up her things and he said it was like love at first sight. We sat on the stairs for a few more minutes just talking and reliving the good
The school year is flying by. Finals are vastly approaching; concert rehearsals are in full swing and it’s almost time for prom season. Chase has been working hard at school and working harder with football. Right now, he has done all he can to impress the college scouts. We all have been working hard I’ve even seen Jen studying some pre law books and even reading about the LSATS. Selena went to some business seminars to see if that is truly the route she wants to go down after graduation. Lucas has been working just as hard if not harder than Chase with his school work and with football. Greg on the other hand has slacked off a little but he has already confirmed he has a secured place in college already. But which one? I don’t know. College acceptance letters should be coming in the post soon but how long after finals will they arrive? Hopefully not long as I believe they wait for finals and the final grades before sending out the letters. All this pressure can make or break some hi
Lunch in hand, Selena and I start walking to the bleachers when Greg and Lucas catch up to us, and the four of us walk together the rest of the way. Jen and Chase are already sat up in the bleachers as we arrived. Lucas helped Selena up with her food and Chase came down to help with mine and we went and joined Jen and enjoy our lunch together. We joked around and had a good time just as we should do at our age because with this being our senior year we only have a short time together like this before we go our separate ways for college. Speaking of college, we all talked about where we have applied for and where we hope to go. Lucas has had a couple of calls from college scouts and Chase said he has had the same but the one he is hoping to hear from he has not just yet. Jen said she is wanting to do a couple of years in one college and then go to Harvard to study law as that is where she feels more passionate, and she gets to be part of the family business in some way or another. Greg
