We found Jen sitting at a table near the fountain in the school quad. Jen notices me and Selena and she waves us over. When we get to the table and put our trays down Chase came over to us “Hello ladies” and he smiles at all of us, but I noticed he looked at me a little bit longer than the other girls.
Jen rolls her eyes “What do you want ass hat.”Chase then shushes his sister “Not in front of company but anyway, mom wants us home straight after school today for some dinner party tonight.”Hearing what Chase just said I choke on my drink “I know you dick wad, Mom told me before I left this morning you were too busy with that bitch of yours Candace.” Jen snaps back at him and she rolls her eyes at him again that’s twice in the matter of minutes and Chase glares back at his sister.“Jen you can be a real bitch some days yourself, anyway you’ve never given her a chance” Just as Chase finished his discussion with his sister Candace comes waltzing over kissing him on the lips as Jen and Selena gag.“Hey baby I’ve been looking all over for you” Candace snuggles into Chase’s side I don’t know why but I can’t stop noticing their interaction with each other.“Hey babe shall we go to the field for the rest of lunch and next period?” Chase asks Candace wrapping his arm over her shoulders, they smiled at one another and walked away. I will admit I am not convinced they were genuine smiles. Something seems off with them, but I don’t know what it is.I ask the girls “Field?”They both said at the same time “football.”“Oh, that makes more sense.”“Yeah, Chase is the star linebacker he’s the best the school has had in the last twenty years.” I am stunned with this news Jen says.“Twenty years wow he must be good.”Selena says to me “Next Friday is the big game of the season.”Jen then nudges me “You should come and check it out we’re playing our rivals The Gondoliers from Venice High.”“Venice High! Isn’t that the school they used in the ‘Grease’ movies?” I ask the girls and they both nod just as the bell rings to signal the end of lunch.“What class do you have next?”Selena asks I look at my class schedule “Um... music.”And again, both Jen and Selena say at the same time “Me too.”“Okay seriously are you two not the twins” We all laugh, deal with our lunches, and head off to music. The three of us settled into music just as the teacher Mrs. McIntyre grabbed our attention. The first thing I noticed about Mrs. McIntyre was her thick Scottish accent and I thought to myself this will be interesting.Mrs. McIntyre started the class with introductions, and she asked me a question “Savannah I heard you’re a music prodigy what can you play?”“I can play most instruments, but not yet the drums” I laugh nervously at my private little joke “Yeah um... I prefer guitar and piano; I am self-teaching how to play every genre of music and I can dab a little at singing.”Mrs. McIntyre has a bright smile on her face “Can you demonstrate a song for the class?” she pleas as I look at both Jen and Selena to see them both smile at me and encourages me to play a song. I nod at the teacher I then stand up and walk over to the guitars. I pick up a guitar, throw the strap over my shoulder, and strum the strings gently to see what key it’s tuned in.“What would you like to hear?” I ask nobody in particular ‘Love Me Like You Do’ by Ellie Goulding a female voice shouts out from the back. I nod “Okay,” so I start to play feeling the music and forget where I am as I lose myself into the piece as I start to sing the lyrics. The song comes to an end as I open my eyes, I see smiles on the faces of my new friends as well as Mrs. McIntyre and the class starts to clap. “That was beautiful Savannah thank you.” I take off the guitar strap, put the guitar back where I got it from on its stand, and sit back down in my seat. After I sat back down the girls praised me for my performance I smiled and mouthed thanks back to them as the lesson continued. The music lesson felt like it was over quicker than it started as the bell rang and off to my next class I went. The rest of the school day went by just as smoothly as it started. I could not wait for the first day of school to be over. My last two lessons I couldn’t get rid of the feeling I was being watched.Every time I looked around out of paranoia Chase was always there either smiling or laughing or flirting with his girlfriend. Got to admit it made me both nervous and flattered that he was looking at me if he was that is.All I need to do now is go home, do my homework, get ready for tonight, and go to this dinner party my dad’s boss is hosting for us. One I am not looking forward to by the way. But it’s for my dad so I’m happy to do it as Dad has earned this promotion more than anyone.I met up with Jen and Selena at the end of the day. We arranged to meet up just outside the school entrance by the time I got there both Jen and Selena were waiting and to my surprise, Chase was there too. Chase was talking to Jen about something I can’t hear what he is saying as I’m not close enough. As I approached them, he winked at me acknowledging my arrival, and took his leave. Watching him walk away my eyes never leaving him I ask Jen “He didn’t leave because of me, did he?” She looks at her departing brother walking further away. “Oh no he just came to tell me to tell my mom he’s got an emergency football practice, so he’ll be home later.” I feel relieved and disappointed that he’s gone these feelings are so confusing I have never had them over a guy before and I’m intrigued to find out what they mean. I bite my bottom lip watching Chase disappear from our sight and the girls notice what I’m doing. “You like him, don’t you?” Jen questions I go crimson feeling put on the
Wait a minute how did he know about my music? “Of course, sir I’m sure I can arrange something for tonight.” “That’s my daughter for you Stuart she lives for her music, she couldn’t put a guitar down since the age of three." He walks out of his office and stands by his boss oh, great trust my dad to embarrass me now. “Is there a particular song you would like to hear Mr. Lockwood?” Dad's boss thinks for a quick second “Could you play ‘Stand by Me’ by Ben E. King that’s my wife and I’s wedding song.” “Certainly, sir that was the first song I ever learned how to play it would be an honor.” “Let’s keep it between us three for now I would love to surprise my wife with it,” Dad comes and stands next to me and squeezes me into his side. “Yes, sir not a word until tonight.” Dad shakes his boss’ hand “Until tonight, Maxwell.” “Yes, we’re looking forward to it” and then Mr. Lockwood left our house. Sitting down and talking to my dad at the kitchen counter for half an hour abo
Chase P.O.V The emergency practice coach called for after school today turned out to be a restoration, where we had to watch tapes and run some drills for a couple of new plays coach thought of. Practice overran by forty-five minutes thanks to a couple of fuckers on defense were fucking about. Today is not the day for all this shit. Candace almost getting on my last nerve being so possessive today for no reason and with this emergency practice and now it’s overrunning. Come on man! I have somewhere I have to be, or my mom will kill me. After practice I opt out of having a shower in the locker room, I’ll have it at home it’ll be quicker. Jumping in my car I speed off home so I can get ready for this dinner party my parents insisted on having. I have arrived home with not much time to spare but I’ll be ready when I gotta be. Pulling into the double garage my dad got built for Jen and me for when we passed our driver’s tests. I beat her by four points but who’s counting? Parking my
Savannah P.O.V I stand in front of Chase and Jen in total shock. Chase's eyes look three times bigger than they normally are. “You!” “Nice to see you again Chase I hope your practice wasn’t so much of a bother for you with our visit tonight,” I offer him my hand to shake. He clears his throat and takes my hand, raising it to his lips kissing the back of my hand softly making my cheeks feel warm and the butterflies start flapping uncontrollably around in my stomach. “Your presence here tonight has made up for how my practice went and may I say, you look absolutely beautiful tonight I love that color green on you.” I smile at him for his compliment now realizing where the green looks familiar. His eyes. “Thank you, Chase, that’s very sweet of you,” He doesn’t let go of my hand straight away he just stands there and looks at me. Mr. Lockwood clears his throat as Dad stares at Chase feeling all eyes are on us Chase lets go of my hand as I go and hug Jen. “I take it you guys h
We continue with some talk about what has been going on in school when someone announced to the room “Dinner is served if you would follow me to the dining room.” The two of us stood up from the couch waiting to be led into the dining room. I see Mr. Lockwood offer his arm to his wife and Dad comes over and offers his arm to Jen “Miss. Lockwood, may I please have the honor to accompany you to dinner?” Jen smiles and takes Dad’s arm as he winks at me. “Thank you Mr. Blakemore I would love to” Jen is guided by my father to dinner, and I follow behind when a hand grabs my arm stopping me in my tracks and I turn around to look at Chase. “Savannah, I know we started off on the wrong foot in History class and I’m sorry about that.” I pull my arm out of his grasp "Chase look what happened in History class was just an obvious misunderstanding it’s what your girlfriend has been saying about me all day I am not so forgiving.” “I can’t apologize for Candace’s behavior, but I can for mi
I can never refuse a chocolate brownie that is my kryptonite in a dessert. “Oh, this looks amazing my compliments to the chef everything has been fantastic did I tell you that brownies are one of my favorites and Savannah’s absolute favorite dessert,” Dad chimes in as I have seen him talking business all night. With what happens next, I think someone has been trying to find out more about me without asking me. That’s not a good look in a guy from my experience. “Thank you for sharing that with us Mr. Blakemore Sir may I ask would Savannah do anything if get given a chocolate brownie?” I elbow Chase in the rib with what he’s just asked my father hearing “oomph” to come out of him I know I got him good. “Well Chase son it all depends; may I ask what for example?” “If I give your daughter a brownie, would I be forgiven for the mistakes I have made to her today?” I cover my face as I feel so embarrassed with this conversation. “I’m certain that if you give her brownies with a pi
Chase P.O.V Sitting next to Jen hearing my parents talk about how they met in college and then started talking about their wedding day. We have heard this story plenty of times in our youth I do not know why they must keep telling it to us. Jen and I are twins, and we can recite their story me playing dad and Jen playing mom. Back when we were kids, we performed their wedding to them one Christmas and I swear that was probably the best gift we could have ever given to our mom. Dad brushed his nose with his finger for some strange reason and then everything clicked into place. Because my eyes have never left Savannah’s since she’s been in my house, I am captivated by her. She stands up and starts walking towards my dad’s guitar how she could tell the difference between my dad’s and mine is a mystery. What is she doing I don’t know but I'm intrigued to find out? She straps the guitar over her shoulder and starts playing a song, and it’s a song I know how to play too. But when she s
WHAT! MY OWN SISTER KNEW. I stand up and start to pace out of anger “Jen I don’t care if you thought it was nothing, we are twins for fuck's sake you should have told me no matter what. We have a bond few people have I told you everything. Why do you think your ex-boyfriend Greg had a black eye the day he broke up with you? I punched him because I saw him with another girl on the beach whilst you were working, and I told you he was no good for you because of what he did. You could have done the same for me in return.” “Chase you’re right I should have done that. But think if I told you what I saw would you have believed me?” She’s right. “Probably not no, I wouldn’t have believed you but that’s beside the point Jen you should have at least tried.” Jen looks down at the phone and at the number “Well I may be better of use to you now, I know who sent the picture,” she looks at me. “Who?” the name she says I don’t believe. “Greg Davenport.” “Greg Davenport as in your ex-boy
