The noise of the festivity setup outside filled my ears as I waver between a silky black negligee and a provocative red short. Tomorrow is a huge day for the pack, it's the pack annual gala. As Luna of the Blood diamond pack, I should be outside organizing the arrangements and all but I'm preparing for a more special occasion. My wedding anniversary.
It was three years since Jax and I got married and I wanted our anniversary to be a special one. I had given instructions to other pack members that we were not to be disturbed. Tonight was our night.
My hands ached from the work I had done in preparing for our anniversary night. I felt a glow of satisfaction as I looked around the sparkling room. My wolf purred contentedly too, she yearned for Jax. The heady scent of jasmine perfume filled the air creating a pleasant atmosphere. The king sized bed was sprinkled with rose petals and the room was lit with a glowing three branched chandelier at the foot of the bed. It was something out of a romance novel.
My eyes roamed around the room to make sure that I had not left out any speck of dust. Mama had always said that I had the eyes of an interior decorator and inherited her clean lifestyle. I allowed myself to feel a bit of pride at my work. It gave off the sexy atmosphere I had been aiming to achieve. I hoped it was enough to impress him.
My spirits dropped a bit at the thought of it and I offered a silent prayer to the Moon goddess asking that my desire be granted at least this once.
Jax and I have not had sex ever since we got married. I had tried to seduce him to bed all this while but he didn't seem interested at all. His care and attention all vanished almost as soon as we got off the wedding altar. I am determined to change that this time around, I resolve, finally deciding to go with the black negligee.
It hugs my curvy frame as I put it on. There is no lingerie under and my perky tits and bald crotch are visible through the dress. The color of the dress emphasized my glowing porcelain skin and matched my raven black hair. A wreath of roses sits atop it and I had woven them into tresses.
I had definitely gone overboard with my outlook, I thought, staring at my reflection in the mirror. The shadows lengthened and the flickering light from the candle shone brighter. It was getting late.
He'll definitely come home tonight because of the gala tomorrow or would he, I pondered, looking at the clock.
He liked such occasions since it gave him the opportunity to show off to the other packs his dominance as Alpha of the prestigious Blood diamond pack.
Just then,I heard his voice outside berating someone. Speak of the devil. I headed to the main room quickening my steps to catch him before he headed to his room. I heard a soft, feminine voice also and I grimaced. Nikini, my sister.
What was she doing here, she spelt trouble. I couldn't handle her problems on this day.
They both stared at me as I approached them and I felt my face flush at their inspection.
"Why are you dressed like this, don't you have proper clothes to cover your body?" Jax asked, looking at me in disgust. I flinch at his cold tone as he regards me like an old rag. I flush in embarrassment and felt my insides get hot with rage but I reminded myself to stay calm and not spoil the day. Nikini winks at me, delighted at his ill treatment of me but I ignore her.
"Darling, today is a special day. Do you remember" I asked him, making sure to put a broad smile on my face as I do.
"What are you talking about" He said, regarding me coldly. "The gala is tomorrow and you know Magnus, the Lycan king is coming here tomorrow which means we have to be on our best. I hope you've helped in organizing the preparations".
He doesn't wait for me to respond.
"I'm going to my study to discuss tomorrow's security details with Nikini" He said, brushing past me into the house. Nikini pinched my bottom as she sashayed with him behind me.
"One more thing, Sophie," He said, turning back to me.
"What is it, Jax?" I asked, trying without success to control the hurt in my voice.
"Try not to disturb or interrupt us in the study" He said,in a warning tone then walked hand in hand with Nikini out of sight.
I rushed back to my room trying to stop the tears that had welled up in my eyes. I banged the door shut and collapsed on the bed. I breathed in and out quickly and recited the mantra I saved for such times.
"You are Sophie, Luna of Blood diamond pack. You can't break down" I said it until my voice grew hoarse. I tried to put the scenario away from my mind but it kept playing back. He hadn't even remembered our anniversary.
I couldn't dwell much on my sister. Nikini was just Nikini. A bully. She had bullied me for as long as I could remember. She had once put a live toad in my soup and I could still recall the howls around the dinner table when my plate was uncovered and it jumped out. They had sacked the cook after that. But I had known it was Nikini, she had grinned evilly at me throughout the commotion. I felt a familiar stirring in my chest which broke my thread of thoughts.
My wolf howled in rage and I got up quickly. Over the years, I had learned to read her emotions well and she was telling me now that my mate was unfaithful.
But only Nikini is in his study, I thought aloud. Could it be that…
My thoughts trailed off as I pushed the idea out of my mind. No, it couldn't be. Nikini wouldn't go that far. I was embarrassed at how low I had thought of her. I got down from the bed and tiptoed to the study, taking care not to make any sound to alert them of my presence.
I paused in my tracks as I heard animated moans coming from the study. I covered my mouth with one hand to stop myself from crying out.
"Fuck me harder, Jax" Nikini moaned out. The sound of slapping flesh and moans filled the air as they both fucked without caring who heard them.
"Ahhh, that's it" She said in a drawn out cry of ecstasy obviously cumming. There was silence for a while then heavy breathing.
"Jax, I don't like that you fucked me in the study. Next time, I want you to fuck me in Sophie's bed" Nikini whined in a sulking tone.
I put my ear closer to the door to hear Jax reply.
"Why bring her into this, babe. Sophie is boring, her bed will also be boring. There are a lot of other exciting places we can enjoy ourselves rather than there."
" You're not touching me again if you can't grant my small wish. Goodbye, I'll be on my way now" Nikini said angrily.
"Babe, come back. Next time, we'll fuck on her bed. Deal?" I heard him say unashamedly.
My wolf was angry. He had never called me babe before. My thoughts churned so that I barely heard Nikini's excited cries. My wolf urged me to confront them but I held myself back. Tomorrow was the gala and I didn't want to spoil it. I will confront them after the event, I resolved angrily as I went back to my room.
I didn't sleep a wink throughout the night. I had tossed around till morning and my eyelids were heavy from lack of sleep and crying. I thought of what I had done to offend Jax ever since we got married. The betrayal from my husband and sister was shocking. I realized now that I had been making excuses for her all this while without knowing her true intentions and full character. My ears pick out sounds from Jax's room. I don't need to go to the study this time. My sensitive ears pick up the sounds. They're having sex again and this time, they didn't even bother to close the door. I heard sounds of a shower being turned on and minutes later, the click of a door being unlocked."See you later, Alpha Jax" Nikini said in a loud voice, maybe hoping that I hear it and know that she had spent the night together with him.I didn't catch his reply, my wolf was pacing restless, furious at Nikini. If she had her way, Nikini would be torn to bits by now.I heard long strides heading towards my r
I stood up hurriedly and looked back. I felt my breath hitched as I stared at the Lycan King in front of me.He was way younger than I expected. I had imagined an old graying king not this perfection in front of me. He was tall and majestic and there was a powerful magnetic aura that compelled respect radiating from him. Before now, I had thought Jax was the most handsome male werewolf. But he paled before Magnus. He had raven black hair just like mine which offset his pale complexion. His piercing blue eyes and regal air made him look older than he was. He blinked and I came back to my senses. I had been staring at him open-mouthed without saying anything."Umm, thank you for catching me. It's an honor to meet you finally, King Magnus" I quickly mumbled, wishing the ground would swallow me. I hoped he couldn't hear my heart racing from here.He nodded expressionlessly."Nice to meet you. I assume you're Sophie. Did a little research on you, always do that to know my hosts. Cloris hal
As I reached the house, panting and out of breath, I came to a stop at the sight before my eyes. I could hear my own heartbeat echoing rapidly in the silence, the weight of Jax's rejection heavy on my heart. I knew that what had transpired between King Magnus and me, regardless of its innocent nature, had irreversibly damaged my relationship with Jax but it didn't prepare me for what was before me.My belongings were strewn carelessly around the doorway. It was like a whirlwind had entered my room and deposited my things outside. I had an idea who the whirlwind was.I found him in his study engrossed in a book. He definitely heard my footsteps but feigned deaf ears to it."Why are all my belongings thrown outside? Some of them are fragile and are surely broken." I said."Isn't it obvious, I rejected you. We're divorced. There's no need to stay here anymore" He said, finally dragging his eyes away from the book."You're not innocent yourself" I said with sparks in my eyes, finally tire
I woke up the next day feeling refreshed and uncertain of where I was. My memory came back gradually as I yawned. The unfamiliar setting had confused me for a moment. I wasn't waking up in my bed. The Lycan king had carried me to the hotel he had booked for his stay here in the upper part of town.I looked around the expansive room, it exuded wealth and opulence. No doubt the stay here was very expensive. The sheets were so soft and had a feathery warmth to it. My wolf, Ryka was loving it as I felt our insides curl at the treatment we were receiving. It had been a long time I had slept this long. My failing marriage with Alpha Jax had always been on my mind these past days. I reflected on the events of the past day, my life had changed so quickly that it was becoming a blur in my mind. After the shocking twist at the grove, I had gone home to get my belongings. I expected Nikini to feel triumphant at getting Alpha Jax all to herself. That wasn't what had happened. If anything, she w
This should only be in fairy tales, I thought to myself as we got down from the limousine. The castle was straight out of a Gothic story. Its towering spires clawed at the darkening sky and was shrouded in an eerie mist that seemed to have settled over it for centuries. The black stone walls rose ominously from the earth, casting long, twisted shadows in the daylight."I know that look, it's ugly" King Magnus said with a chuckle, joining me to study the place."No, I wouldn't say that, more like Gothic" I said lamely trying to praise the place."Blackwater castle was built by the first Lycan King, King Grimwick. Not much has changed in the structure since then". He said, then turned to talk to the driver. He must have mind-linked his pack members because just then three young men opened the heavy metal doors of the castle which creaked open with an eerie groan, as if warning us of its mysterious depths. The entrance was adorned with grotesque stone gargoyles, their twisted forms addin
The massive doors swung open, revealing a hall that was as grand as it was intimidating. I looked sideways to see the guards' implacable faces. I took a hesitant step into the room, feeling like a rabbit surrounded by wolves. Gleaming tables were arranged neatly in three rows. They indicated that banquets were held here sometimes. One of the guards pushed me forward roughly."You bow in front of royalty," He hissed at me."Treat her gently, she's yet to learn our ways" A high feminine voice piped from the far end of the hall. I realized my mistake, in my eagerness to study the hall, I had failed to recognize the people sitting there. The lighting at their end was poor too, they saw more of me than I did of them. Slowly my wolf abilities made my eyesight get accustomed to the light and I could pick their outlines clearly. The Queen mother sat on a lavish throne-like chair with a regal air about her. She was a woman of striking beauty despite her age, her silver hair cascaded framed he
Magnus POV.Another sleepless night as usual. The rhythmic ticking of the clock in my room was the only sound around. It was early dawn of another day and I had not slept a wink because my mind was occupied. The events of the past days has been nothing short of unexpected. I had gone to the Blood Diamonds pack for the Gala event alone but had unexpectedly brought back a mate. The Blood diamond council had been surprised but no one had been more surprised than I was. I took the decision in a spilt second. I'm usually more logical than that. My business successes and conquest as the Lycan King are a result of thinking through on decisions before acting on them. I had first taken an interest in her at the party. Even then, I had seen the tension in their marriage. I saw it as providence or the workings of the moon goddess when he later rejected her.My first instinct when Jax had talked insolently to me outside the party was to rip out his throat. Elena had been the only person who coul
The days had been monotonous, nobody told me that a castle could be so boring. But then, I was always inside so I couldn't complain much. For the past two days, my routine was mostly reading novel paperbacks, eating and sleeping. It was the early hours of the morning and I knew that my maid would soon be here to get me started on my day. I had asked the housekeeper for another maid since I couldn't get along with the previous one. I had not gotten into details about it, I just told her I wasn't comfortable with her. Whatever her fault, I didn't want Daisy sacked because of me. The new girl, Sarah was more polite and quiet. We had gotten along just fine.Technically, there was no law against me going out, I just assumed I wasn't to leave. From what I had gathered, King Magnus was always busy. We didn't see much of each other which was strange for people getting married in a few days. But then, the circumstances surrounding our relationship was different.I got out of the bed and went
SOPHIE POVI looked up with a sigh at the old decrepit building before knocking the door and I went in buoyed by a prompt from inside. I was nervous as it had taken me a long time to trace this location and now that I was here, it felt unreal. I was finally going to find out the truth. I was ushered into what I presumed to be a matron's office by a nun wearing a long gray habit. "The matron will be with you shortly. I hope you find what you came here for" She said with a wave before stepping out leaving me alone with my thoughts and the tired creaking fan above.I was trying hard to forget Magnus. There was a joint burial the previous week for them both. It wasn't still clear how they died. My guess was that they had been poisoned in their cells. Our enemies were also within the castle. Magnus' mother was right though, Kal Fang was no threat to us again, my guess was that he had been placated with Magnus' death. He might be the one behind it.With the death of the Alpha king and his
SOPHIE POVThe next day, I found myself thinking back to what the Queen had done the previous day and how she had stood her ground against the whole council. I wasn't sure I could do that and succeed. I would be eaten alive by all of them. Whatever she had done or not done, there was no denying her influence among them.So it was that I found myself heading to her room when I was done freshening up for the day. There were more guards around her room than other places. Magnus must have given them orders to watch her closely. He had still not trusted her fully. I hesitated then knocked gently on her door. There was no reply and I knocked again. Perhaps my first attempt had been too feeble."Who is it," I heard her ask from inside."It's Luna Sophie," I answered back. There was a long pause before she replied."Come in," She said at last. She sounded surprised which I knew she would. On normal occasions, we couldn't stand each other's company. No doubt, she was wondering what I was her
SOPHIE'S POV I was in the room, thinking about how to help King Magnus. I had called a lot of people for advice none of their suggestions worked for me. It was far too dangerous and I didn't want any harm toward my man. I breathed out loudly and lowered my head, it was frustrating and I hated the situation. This was the same man I had waited for when Luke was ruling, I had hoped he would return one day and make me happy again but to my deepest regret, I had forgotten that he might have gone through a lot and things were difficult for him too. If only I was a little wiser, I could have stopped him when he decided to call for a meeting immediately after his recovery and I could have taken care of more things before he woke up so his mind would be relaxed by the time he opened his eyes. Things wouldn't have been so difficult for him and he could have been happy now, filled with a lot of enjoyment at the moment instead of what he was going through. I felt bad toward him and I felt bad
MAGNUS' POV Everything was becoming dimmer in my head, I was unable to process the things that were happening to me but one thing was clear and that was the fact that I was among enemies. All of them hated me, they all wanted to kill me and were only being nice because I was so quiet these days. After what Luke did to me, many others wanted to try the same thing and in the end, they might succeed just as Luke had done back then. I couldn't let my wolf take over again, it would have killed so many people then if it hadn't stopped and I hated to kill my people. The ones that needed to die were the enemies surrounding me and pretending to be sincere when they weren't. I paced around the room, thinking of how to escape the wrath of the enemies. I was weaker than I once was, the wolfsbane was still taking effect on me, making me weaker every day. Before I started my revenge, the first person I needed to kill was Luke and I would make sure to do that, then I would find the lady who betr
SOPHIE'S POV I watched him leave abruptly from the meeting and I was bothered. "Everyone, I think it's time to leave. I will go and calm the king down and he will call on you all later." I told them before leaving the gathering too. I went straight to his room and I saw him lying in his bed. "King Magnus," I called. He rolled around in his bed and turned to look at me "What was that? Why were you siding with him when he did that to you?" He asked, his voice was calm as he sat up in his bed and looked at me. I walked closer to him and sat down beside him. "I wasn't defending him. I was just worried that you would make a mistake because of your anger. Luke already dealt with him and he is missing an arm already. Cutting off his pack would only endanger the lives of innocent people and I'm sure you don't want that either." I said to him and he was quiet for a while. "I understand. I was very angry back there when I learnt about what he did to you. I wanted to deal with him and the e
MAGNUS' POV The celebration continued as everyone had their fill, laughed and had fun. Sophie sat down beside me, staring and smiling at me now and then. She seemingly wasn't enjoying the celebration like everyone else and it was obvious she wanted to leave as fast as possible but was only waiting for me. I wanted to leave too, it had been a while since I last saw her so being with other people paled in comparison to how much I wanted to be with her. However, it would be rude to leave the Alphas who came from different places to celebrate with me and pledge their alliances. "Lord Magnus, will you drink with me?" Jax asked, coming toward me with a bottle of wine and a cup in hand. I nodded my head "Yes. Bring that here." I said cheerfully. I wasn't happy with him but I had to keep my font clean. He walked over and placed a cup in front of me as he was about to pour the drink. I looked at the cup carefully, images of how that lady drugged me back then played in my head and I frowne
MAGNUS' POV I groaned loudly as I touched my forehead, it was aching so bad that I found it hard to open my eyes. It felt like I had been out of it for a very long time and getting back to things was a bit difficult for me. I removed my hand from my head with my eyes still closed, trying to calm my mind so I would be able to open my eyes. It was hard at first but soon, my eyes opened only to be closed back again due to the sudden exposure to light that seemed like it was going to remove my eyes from its socket. I groaned again, wondering what had happened to me until I heard the door open and someone rushed in "King Magnus!" The person shouted. My senses were dull as it was hard to figure out who it was but the voice was so familiar that I dared not mistake it for someone else's. It was Sophie. "Sophie?" I called out loud, still unable to open my eyes. I felt her hands on my chest as she finally got to me "You're awake. I'm so glad." She mumbled. She seemed very close to me so m
SOPHIE'S POV Seeing King Magnus again warmed my heart a great time and the thought that the whole thing was over made me over the moon. I had always imagined a scenario where I would never see him again, a scenario in which my belief of him still being alive was a total lie but when I got to the throne room and saw him standing there, it felt like a dream to me. I pinched myself several times to make sure I wasn't dreaming and when he announced a duel with Luke, I couldn't be happier even though I was scared for him too. Well... Everyone was scared as they knew how dirty and devious Luke could be. While King Magnus was purely strong, Luke could always do evil things that would make him win. "It's over... It's all over now." I couldn't help but mutter with tears in my eyes. My happiness knew no bounds, I was so happy that my heart wouldn't stop racing and what I wanted the most at the moment was to leave the crowd, go to a room and make up the times we had missed together. I was r
MAGNUS' POV Luke flew to a distance and only stopped when he crashed into a building. He was there for a few minutes and I was already thinking he had given up only to see him running toward the battleground again. He stood a few feet away from me and wiped the corner of his mouth that was already filled with blood and I could see a part of his belly, injured too. It was taking longer to heal which made me wonder what was wrong with him. "I told you, didn't I? You and I are not on the same ground, We are not on the same level. I was created to rule, ruling is what I'm made of and if I should let you hurt me here, I don't fit for that." My wolf said and in the next seconds, it appeared in front of Luke and grabbed one of his claws, breaking it. Luke growled in pain, he ran back and growled again "You are... You!" He wanted to say something but kept quiet as he could see my wolf approaching him again. The whole matter was becoming a plaything as my wolf had overpowered him complete
