CHAPTER 3
“Camille!” She heard Fredrick’s voice behind her. She froze, so that’s why she was faking it all. Her heart began to thunder in dread. “He won’t misunderstand me right?” she thought.
She stood glued on the spot, too afraid to face him. But out of nowhere, she was harshly shoved away from the way. He went to Cassie’s side and glared at Camille furiously.
“You-“
“Leave us alone? She’s already injured. What do you want more?”
She stared at him and felt tears in her eyes. He didn’t believe her again. He hugged Cassie and she hid in his arms.
“Fredrick, no. That’s not what happened. She’s lying,” Camille tried to explain but stopped at his words.
Fredrick looked at her with contempt and irritation, as if she was his most hated enemy and not his wife. “Leave before I do something really bad to you.”
Camille wants to be loved and treated as such. Is it too much to ask? She thought he was the right man but she was extremely wrong. He’s just a selfish egocentric man who doesn’t care about anything but his interests.
“You’re disgusting. Stop trying to give her a bad reputation just because I’m choosing her over you. Don’t stoop so low.” Her thoughts were interrupted by his deep dark, and menacing voice.
“Excuse me?” Camille gasped in disbelief, pretending to be calm, and trying to control the anger in her voice but failed to hide her disappointment.
“I can’t believe you think of me as such an insidious woman, even after years of marriage.”
Fredrick pointed his finger directly to her face, “I regretted the day I chose to marry you. I know everything now, you are just a gold digger who is after my money. You were given everything by your father. Yet, you still wanted to take over my wealth.”
Suddenly, Camille chuckled softly, her smile full of sarcasm.“Fredrick, I didn’t realize until today that you’re so stupid! How foolish of me to have thought you would love me after all this year.”
Fredrick’s expression darkened, but Camille stood her ground,“What did you say?”
“Nothing, aren’t you two in love? Alright! Go ahead and have a good life. Just remember you can’t eat your cake and have it.”
Fredrick’s expression changed. He didn’t expect that a soft and well-raised woman would use such words. “Camille! Don’t push your luck! Sign those papers today,” he warned, with a baritone voice, full of outrage and threat.
For the first time, she didn’t feel anything for the face in front of her. She saw him as a total stranger. A dangerous, powerful, and merciless stranger who had damaged her in every way possible.
“And I’ll also tell everyone that you a whore, and that you’ve been having affairs behind my back while you were still my wife-“he threatened and his eyes grew dark.
Camille felt her world crumbling. She slapped him as hard as she could. Her palm hit his face and she could feel the sting. But she didn’t regret what she did. She was tired of his threats and insults.
“How dare you speak like that about me?” she hissed through her gritted jaw.
“Who do you think you are?!”’
His eyes narrowed, and his jaw clenched. He was shocked, not thinking that she could have the courage to hit him.
“I think I know exactly who the hell you are. You are a horrible person,” She snapped at him and then looked at Cassie, who was also in shock.
“’ I give you this jerk back, b*tch!”
And then she signed the paper. Throwing them at his face she turned around and walked away, leaving him standing there in silence.
Her marriage was over. It was hurtful, but she had to let it go for her own sake. Her dream of happiness was over, her hopes were shattered, and she could never fix them again, but it was meant to happen from the start.
A self-mocking chuckle escaped her for being so foolish to think that she could change him.
She stopped walking and looked back at him one last time. His eyes met hers and she saw nothing in them. No warmth, no kindness. He had no expression, no emotion in them, and that hurt her even more.
She couldn’t stop the tears from falling. Everything inside of her hurts, “I hate you,” she whispered, and with one last look, she left and walked out of his life.
She had been a fool and was playing like a toy. He was a player and a liar.
However, her heart breaks thinking about how much she is devoted to this marriage and how little her husband has given her. Her love and loyalty were not returned even by a little. She was always the most tortured one, and it’s always the same.
She wants to be loved and treated as such. Is it too much to ask? She thought he was the right man but she was extremely wrong. He’s just a selfish and egocentric man who doesn’t care about anything but his interests.
Camille smiled softly, letting her tears fall freely from her eyes. Then, she hailed a taxi and headed to a bar.
CHAPTER 4Sean sat in his office, his eyes fixed on Nora, his secretary, as she offered him advice. He knew it was a bad idea to ask for her opinion, but she was a lady and he thought she would at least understand a bit.“This shouldn’t be a hard fit for someone like you who has everything” She teased.Sean usually didn’t talk to her much in a bid to maintain a professional relationship. This conversation ensued as a result of his worry. He had yet another trivial moment with his grandma over something that wasn’t so important and because he had grown tired of giving her fake promises, he decided to just get her something nice this time around but the question was what?He asked Nora, his secretary, about this but she took the wrong initiative and instead thought he was referring to gift ideas for his girlfriend; a very non-existent one at that. Sean’s frustration mounted as she suggested he purchase a make-up brand or perfumes for the female in question. He didn’t know what he expec
CHAPTER 5The bar was filled and strewn with people indulging in luxuries.Camille leaned against the counter and downed glass after glass. She was not a person who liked to drown her sorrows in alcohol, but this time, it seemed that nothing but alcohol could temporarily numb the pain she was feeling inside.Three years of their marriage were lost. While she was determined to spend the rest of her life with him, he was planning to get back his ex-girlfriend.Camille raised her cup and poured herself another glass. She had always been a good drinker, but she was a little drunk at the moment. The cell phone in her bag suddenly vibrated. She reached out her phone with hazy eyes and answered the call.“Who is this?”“Sis, you lost again!”It was Cassie, her twin sister.Camille's lips tugged in mockery.“Did you call me just to tell me that?”Cassie laughed in satisfaction.“Sister, did you know that I’m getting engaged?”Camille’s expression sank. She looked at the people on the dance f
CHAPTER 6From the moment she stepped into the bar Sean’s eyes had been on her. Not because of the reason that she looked beautiful but because she stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the other girls in the bar. From the corner of his eyes, he saw her down another shot and decided he would step in before she ended up completely wasted on the floor. He made a way for her. Her eyes were droopy and she rested her head against her arm which was on the table. He watched as she stood up, staggering on the floor and almost fell but he was there in time to save her.Boldly, he started a conversation and it turned out to be not so difficult to talk to her.Her face had been set in a look too excited to be here tonight. Sean watched her crestfallen expression after she ended the call on her phone. He felt a pang of worry as the brief thought of what must’ve transpired between the person on the phone and she hit him. He didn’t even know why he was worried.“How about you? What are you doing in a
CHAPTER 7Sean's gaze flicked to Camille who was still lost in thought oblivious to what's going on."I'm so sorry", Sean said, his voice low and urgent. "Camille, we need to go now."Camille looked at him, confused. "What's wrong?"He glanced at his watch realizing how late it was. "I should get you home," he said, and Camille nodded, still looking vulnerable.Sean quickly paid the bill, and they hurried out of the bar, the man's eyes following them until they disappeared into the night. As they walked away from the bar, Sean's arm protectively around Camille's shoulders, he knew they had to be careful. He didn't know who the man was or what he wanted, but he wasn't going to take any chances. He quickened their pace, his eyes scanning the streets for any sign of danger. His car was parked opposite the dark road they stood on, she was still staggering, trying her best to find her balance. He knew he couldn’t leave her here to find a taxi.“Which way is it to your house?” He asked.“Th
The morning sun poured through gaps in the thick blackout curtains, coming to rest right on her closed eyes. Camille opened them to just a slit, wincing at the migraine that set in almost immediately. Her body felt like lead, like something was crushing her. She looked around the room when her vision settled. Dark golden walls glowed from the sunlight, and a luxurious carpet covered the floor beneath her bed. Her brows furrowed in confusion. She put a hand up to her head and sat up, trying in vain to ease her headache, “Where I’m I?” She said scanning her environment. The room was really large, a chandelier was attached to the white ceiling, with men’s clothes and cologne hanging around the room. “Where I’m? How…did I get here?” She said, trying to straighten her hair with her fingers. She crawled out of the bed and picked up her phone and made a call. Camille hung up the phone when she was done with the man on the phone. Unexpectedly, the phone rang again. Watching the name
Camille widened her eyes and coughed lightly trying to figure out what he meant by saying that. "You do know you are being so hilarious right now.""I'm not being hilarious, but I'm sure you misunderstood me which...of course...is expected."She frowned as she watched him grab a bottle of wine and pour it in his glass cup gulping down all of it at once. Doesn't he ever get tipdy? Her finger ran through her long brown hair."You said marriage, not too hard to understand."He chuckled dangling the cup with his long fingers."I forgot to tell you it will be a contract marriage, after few years we div-"“I know what a contract marriage is! And why on earth do you think I’ll agree to it?”“We both need each other’s help. You mostly need my help.” He tipped his glass and slumped on the office chair that squeaked at every move. She closed her eyes and took deep breaths in and out. “What do you know about me?”“Everything I’m supposed to know-““You-you searched about me without my permission?!
“Oh-“ Sean said, coming back to reality. “I’m fine grandma, I was just thinking-““About Camille? That’s her name, yes?” she asked, smiling.Sean grunted and glared at his grandma. “Yes, that’s her name. Camille Riley.”“Aww. My grandson is really in love!” She squirmed, her face shining brightly.Sean’s face was turning red for reasons best known to his cheeks. He brought out his phone and fixed his eyes on it.“You know…I still remember the first day you wanted to approach a girl. You were just five.” Sean cursed under his breath. “Grandma-““It would be fun sharing it to your wife. Wouldn’t it?” She asked cheerfully.“Anything that will make you happy, Grandma.” He said almost whispering.“Today is going to be beautiful!”He ran his fingers through his hair exasperatedly. Few minutes later, the maids walked into the dining room with trays of food that rested on their palms. They walked inside the room in a straight line and carefully placed the trays of food on the long white tabl
Camille stepped out of the car and onto the paved driveway, gazing up at the grand entrance of the luxurious mall. She had always dreamed of shopping in places like this with Fredrick, but now, she was alone.“I guess some dreams aren’t meant to come true,” She thought to herself. As she entered the mall, her eyes widened in awe at the opulent decor and high-end boutiques. She spotted a stunning blue sparkling short dress in a display window and couldn’t help but gasp. She had always taken a fancy to that designer’s works, and only admired them in magazines. But as her fingers reached out to touch the glass, a mocking voice stopped her. “Even if you sell your generational properties, I doubt it’s enough to get that.” Camille was taken aback by her rude words and wanted to speak, but she was cut short again.“I’ll suggest you step away from the glass,” the sales assistant sneered. “I wonder why numerous people don’t know their place these days.”Camille turned to see a young sales as
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Sofia quivered her gaze down, she was covered in sweat as she stuttered. “She-she threatened to kill me,” tears fell from her eyes freely. Camille ruffled her hair in frustration going to seat on a chair. “Stand up.” She said her arms crossed. “I said you can stand up.” Camille said again. Sofia slowly stood up her gaze downwards as she stared at the floor.“And you destroyed the designs? After knowing how much effort I put in it. You promised to change and I trusted you.” Camille said in disbelief. The door suddenly opened and Tiffany entered, “Hey, Cam.” She paused looking at Sofia who bent her head in shame. “Is she back? I thought she said she was on leave because she’s sick.” Tiffany threw the popcorn in her mouth munching on it as she spoke.Camille sighed, “That was only an excuse for her to carry out her misdeed.”“Misdeed?” Tiffany looked at her puzzled. “You mean to say she lied?” Camille nodded, “She was the one who destroyed the design.” She
“Wow, the view from up here is stunning.” Camille exclaimed with a smile.“Do you love it?”“Of course,” She smiled.Cole stared at her beautiful smile, she turned, and he quickly diverted his gaze. “What do you want to take?” He asked.“No it’s fine. I’m okay.” She said with a smile.Cole insisted, “There’s no way I’ll let you come all the way here, and you won’t take anything.” “Alright, I’ll have something to drink.”“That’s better then.” Cole smiled. He took his phone and made the orders.“Okay, while we wait for the drinks, how are you doing?” He asked.“Well, I’ve been good. At least after you ran away, and I didn’t see you.” Camille said with a short laugh.“Ah, that day. I chased after the person who hit us. It was a pity I couldn’t catch her before she escaped.” “Oh,” Camille muttered in a low tone. “The accident was fatal, did you sustain any injury? I tried reaching out to you to even say thank you. But your line wasn’t reachable.” Cole nodded, “I misplaced my cell pho
A week passed after the incident, Camille and Sean were discharged from the hospital four days after the incident, and they returned to their daily work like nothing happened.“I won’t be able to go with you, Camille. I’m sorry, but Ethan wants me to go to a party with him. Don’t worry, I’ll go with you next time. Love you.” Camille read out with a sigh, dropping the phone on the bed. “I guess I’m all alone on this one.” She muttered, sitting in front of her mirror. She wanted to apply her body cream when her phone rang. She walked back to the bed, picking it up.“What’s up, Sean? Missing me already? We just talked like five minutes ago.” She smiled, saying through the phone.“I suddenly began to miss you again. Are you busy?” Sean asked.“Hm mm, not really, what is it?”“Let’s go out for lunch, I’ll send Jeffery to come pick you up.”Camille smiled, “Alright, I’ll be waiting.” She said, cutting the call.Camille breathed out standing in front of her wardrobe. “How about this?” She m
Sofia quivered hiding behind a wall, her eyes closed. “Where is Fredrick?” Cassie said walking down the hallway of her office with her assistant.“He had an emergency again, I sent the nurses to attend to him. He’s presently at home.” Cassie nodded, her face looked pale as she dragged her feet on the floor. She paused staring at the floor like she forgot something. She turned to her assistant giving her a questioning look. “Call me Sofia and ask her to meet me at the office unfailingly tomorrow morning. I have an appointment by 10. She should meet me by 9.” She said and continued to walk.Sofia heard what she said, she leaned closer to the wall, Cassie’s footsteps approaching louder. Her phone vibrated in her pocket, she gasped trembling as she tried hard to turn it off.Cassie paused, “Was that you?” She asked her assistant. She shook her head in reply. Cassie’s brow furrowed, she was sure she just heard something. Her instincts kicked in, she narrowed her gaze, squinting her eyes
“Mother, what do you mean he's my father? That's a lie right?” Cassie looked at her mother in the eyes, silently wishing she would say yes. However, are expectation were shattered by her mother's next word?“I've hidden it from you for too long and I think it's best you know now.” Miriam said in a low tone.“M.. Mother, what are you saying? There's no way he's my father.” She stuttered as she said in disbelief.“Family issues just bores me.” Mr. Victor muttered, leaving the room.“Victor, get back here. You can't just leave,” Miriam screamed after him, and he ignored her.She sat on the floor dejected staring at where Mr. Victor just left.“Cassie, you are injured.” Miriam gasped standing up to check on her injury. Cassie move aside, her gaze piercing deep into her as tears drop from her eyes.“Cassie… I—”It's okay mum, you don't need to say anything.“ And with that, Cassie left the room leaving Miriam.Miriam wanted to go after her but hesitated, instead she brought out her phone an
“Miss Camille—”Sean chipped in, his arm beneath his chest, “You heard are right? She's not helping him, you should take him else where or find some drugs that can cure him, doesn't he have families?” Sean's gaze pierced into them, one of the women pinched the other for them to leave. They forced a smile slowly turning to leave.Frederick grabbed a hold of the bed, “Camille,” he called, raising his head up slowly.Camille fold her fist tightly on her chest, she shut her eyes tightly.Camille turned over, sitting up straight. Her eyes met Frederick's in a long stare. “Camille, are you fine?” he asked, he moves his wheelchair closer to her.Camille sneered, “Why do you ask?”“I watched the news and your name was mentioned. They said you were attacked, and I rushed over to see you. Are you fine? Did they hurt you anywhere?” his voice were filled with concern, his eyes looking at her from head to toe.Camille scoffed loudly looking sideways, “Even if I were to be hurt I don't need you by
Camille stared at the unknown person with a gun pointed at her.“Boom,” the loud gunshot resounded in her ear.Camille blocked her ear, her gaze turned downwards in fright. Her heart beat increases her chest rising and falling, slowly she raised her head to see who the gunshot hit.The unknown person was hit on the arm. The person held it shoulder, groaning in pain. Another gunshot was fired, and the person bent dodging it, running off to the other side of the road.Camille looked ahead to see Tiffany running after the unknown, she wanted to continue her pursuit but stopped when she got to Camille.“Shit,” Tiffany cursed, hurrying to Camille, helping her up.“There's someone in the car.” Camille groaned, the protruding pain on her forehead causing her to wince. Tiffany hastened her steps towards the car. She looked inside, checking the back seat and driver seat. She checked round, but no one was there. “There's no one here.” Tiffany screamed, waving her arms at Camille. She went ba
Sean looked at the armed men with guns pointed at him. Camille clutched tight to his shoulder still in his arm. He dropped Camille gently on the ground. “Wait here, I promise to be quick.” He muttered. She pulled his arm backwards and kissed his lips, “Be careful,” Sean nodded at her and stood up facing the men. He raised his hands up like he was surrendering and moved closer to the men. “Who sent you?” he asked. They cocked their guns, “You don’t ask questions.” One of them said.Sean kept on walking closer and one of them screamed for him to stop moving. Sean paused with a smirk, “At least I should know who sent you before you kill me. Don’t you think that’s fair?” “You don’t get to talk unless we ask you to. Just follow us and there won’t be any harm.” The one who screamed for him to stop said.Sean glanced secretly at the man by his side a few meters from him. “Behind you,” He screamed, and before they knew what was happening, Sean grabbed the gun from the one by his side usin
Ethan stopped the car not far from the hotel and removed the car keys. He turned to the back seat looking at Tiffany and said, “I’ll be right back, stay in the car.” He opened the car door coming down. Tiffany turned to the kids. “What’s wrong? Is Miss Camille okay?” Vanessa sniffed looking at Tiffany.Tiffany smiled at them hugging them close, “Camille is fine, I’m going to bring her back okay? I want you to trust me and stay in the car. Don’t come out, okay?” They nodded in unison.“Mary, watch over Vanessa. I’ll be right back.” She said to her coming down from the car.She ran hoping to see Ethan, “Ethan,” She saw him from a distance and called. Ethan looked back surprise on his face, “What are you doing here? I thought I said stay in the car.” His expression was serious as he spoke.“I want to come along, Camille is my friend and I can’t let you go in there alone.” She said.Ethan sighed loudly, “This is more dangerous than you think, Tiff. If something goes wrong I won’t be able
