Chapter 13

Camille walked into the Riley's residence, her family already seated at the lunch table. Her mother and sister Cassie looked up, surprise and annoyance flashing across their faces. But her father, a warm smile on his face, stood up to greet her.

"Camille, sweetheart, it's so great to see you! I'm glad I could finally pin you down for a visit."

Camille's smiled, "Dad, I... uh... thanks for having me over."

As they sat down, her mother flashed her an inexplicable look which she ignored. "So, Camille, how's your husband doing? I feel like I haven't seen him in ages."

Camille's eyes darted to her mother, who made a subtle warning glance. She hesitated, realizing her father didn't know about her divorce. "Uh... he's... doing well, Dad."

Her mother jumped in, her voice sugary sweet. "Cassie, dear, tell your father about the new project at work. I'm sure he'd love to hear about it."
