Chapter 6: Left Behind

After her talk with Zack, Amy left the office.

His mood is restless, he tries to control his emotions. He knows it won't be long before the truth comes out, but the question is when will he tell it.

As he walked to the pantry, he could still hear Zack's voice, the words he had said earlier: "I'm worried about you." Amy felt each step getting heavier.

The last scene in the hospital with Quen was still in his mind.

"There is a complication in your pregnancy," Quen said repeatedly. He couldn't quite figure out how to handle it on his own. Especially now, Zack needs to know that he is the father of his child. But how can she tell this to a man in a complicated relationship with Vanessa?

Quen suddenly entered the pantry. When Amy saw him, the young man's face showed concern.

"Amy, are you okay?" Quen asked as he approached her.

Amy adjusted herself, trying to hide the weight she felt. "Yes, I'm fine," he replied quickly, but it was obvious in his voice that he was nervous.

"You don't look okay," Quen replied, seemingly unconvinced by Amy's answer. "I know it's hard, but you have to make a decision. You have to tell Zack the truth."

Amy was stunned, she knew Quen was right. He can no longer hide. The longer he hides the truth, the harder it will be in the end. But she's afraid of Zack's reaction—not just to his fatherhood, but to the possibility of him disappearing from the man's life forever.

"But how do I begin, Quen?" Amy asked, unable to hide the doubt in her voice. "What if he gets angry? Or he walks away from me?"

Quen took a deep breath before speaking. "Amy, it's better for him to find out now than for him to find out any other way. You can't hide it for the rest of your life either."

Amy nodded, trying to understand what Quen was saying. He knew it was right, but the nervousness in his chest still didn't go away. Before he could answer, they heard footsteps approaching. The pantry door opened and Zack walked in, looking surprised to see the two of them.

"Quen, Amy, you're here," Zack said, trying to smile but there was a strange tension in his voice.

Quen stood up and looked at Amy, seemingly passing the decision to her. "I have to get back to work. Talk to you first," he said before leaving the room.

Amy and Zack were left staring at each other, seemingly speechless for the first few moments. Amy could feel the cold air between them, and she knew now was the right time to reveal everything.

"Amy, I've been wanting to ask you for a while. Is something going on that I don't know about?” Zack asked, his voice serious.

Amy took a deep breath, gathering all the courage she had. "Zack, I need to tell you something. I don't know how to start, but..." He stopped, feeling the weight of the words he wanted to say. "Zack, I'm pregnant and you're the father of the one I'm carrying."

Zack stared at Amy, seemingly unable to believe what he heard. A few moments passed before he spoke. "What do you mean?" he asked, surprise on his face.

"Promise, I don't intend to keep this from you for long," Amy stated, tears welling up in her eyes. "I just don't know how to tell you, especially since you're in a relationship with Vanessa."

Zack was silent, seeming to think about everything Amy said. Amy could feel the tension between them, and the nervousness in her chest seemed to explode. But he has to face it—it's the start of a bigger fight.

"I need some time to process this," Zack said, his voice cold but the weight of those words was obvious. He stood up and wordlessly left the room, leaving Amy tearful and alone.

While sitting in a corner, Amy felt the weight of her decision. He didn't know what the outcome of all this would be. But in spite of everything, he knew what he did was right to reveal the truth.

Days passed after the painful conversation between Amy and Zack. Amy gradually accepted the fact that she had to face her pregnancy alone. With each passing day, she feels the growth of life in her womb—the child who will bring new light to her world, even though her father has abandoned them.

In the office, Amy was quiet, focused on work to take her mind off the pain she was feeling. He could feel the eyes watching him, especially whenever he and Zack met each other. Despite their situation, they are still professional in their jobs, but it is inevitable that their previous closeness will diminish.

Zack always seemed to be busy, avoiding looking at her or talking to her for long. The former warmth and care between them was replaced by a cold distance.

Once, while Amy was busy reviewing papers, Quen approached her. His face shows concern and concern.

"Amy, how are you?" Quen asked, giving him a gentle smile.

Amy replied with a forced smile. "It's okay. It's a bit difficult, but it's manageable."

Quen sat in the seat across from him, his face serious. "I know what happened to you and Zack was hard, but remember, I'm here for you. If you need help or even just something to talk to, you're not alone."

Amy looked at Quen, feeling the sincerity in her eyes. He couldn't believe in the goodness of his friend, especially in times when he seemed to be at the lowest point of his life. "Thank you, Quen. Your presence means a lot. I don't know how I'll get up without you."

Quen smiled and reached for Amy's hand. "You know, no matter what happens, you can deal with it. You are strong, Amy. And no matter what decision you make, I will support you."
