Chapter 3

~Adrian~

Waking up to the insistent ringing of my phone, I squinted my eyes open weakly as I yawned. Stretching my hands towards the table, I grabbed my phone, pulling it close to my ear as I answered coldly, “Yes.”

“Good morning Mr. Steele, we apologize for the flight delay. It was a misinformation; you’re set to take off by twelve-thirty this afternoon,” the director of the airport stated.

Hearing his words, I ended the call abruptly, as I kept my phone aside. Looking to the side of the bed, my eyes widened in disbelief as I was met with an empty bed.

“Where’d she go?” I muttered to myself, running my hands through my hair.

Drifting my gaze to the corners of the room, a shiny jewelry caught my attention from the side of the bed. Stretching towards it, I picked it up as I glanced at it's features. Narrowing my eyes, I studied it intently.

Drawing it close to my nose, I realized it had the same scent as the woman from last night.

Knock!

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. Getting out of bed, I picked my clothes from the floor as I slid them on swiftly.

“Come in.”

The door swung open as my assistant, Henry, made his way in. Adorned with a three-piece suit, he looked more responsible than other days. He always wore a shirt and jeans, and occasionally wore plain trousers. “Good morning, boss. I see you had a good night’s sleep,” he said, adjusting his tie, trying to get me to notice his new look.

“Where is she?” I asked swiftly, not willing to give him the audience. I was determined to find the woman I had spent the night with as her sudden disappearance caught my attention.

“Where’s who?” Henry asked, confused as he scratched his head.

“The woman from last night,” I said.

“She left early this morning, boss,” Henry stated firmly.

“Did you see her face?”

“No, but I did see her back. She’s really curvy with long, thick black curly hair,” Henry stated proudly.

Rolling my eyes, I pulled the locket I had found earlier from my pocket. “Get me every piece of information you can find concerning this locket. I want a thorough investigation as to who that woman was and what happened last night. Whoever owns this locket is the one I'm searching for," I ordered swiftly.

Nodding in response, Henry made his way out of the room swiftly, leaving me alone. Looking to the empty bed, I spotted blood stains. A smirk played on the corner of my lips as I muttered, “She was a virgin.”

This new discovery made me even more determined to find out who she was, as I refused to believe I was rejected. I was a CEO worth trillions of dollars. Women always crowded me, but I had nothing to do with them.

As the sole heir to Steele corporations and feared in the business world, I refused to believe I was rejected by any woman, much less a virgin. Shrugging my shoulders, I felt she should be lucky she had her first time with me.

Taking my jacket from the chair, I swung it over my shoulders as I walked out of my room. Walking down the halls, I reminisced on my night with the stranger as a smug look appeared on my face. I couldn’t wait to find out who she was. “Boss,” Henry called out to me.

“Is the car ready?” I asked.

“Yes, sir,” Henry responded swiftly. “I want information about that locket immediately,” I ordered as I turned, attempting to make my way to the limousine which was parked outside.

“What locket?” Anna asked as she approached from behind. Draped in a beautiful black dress, she walked gracefully towards us with a smile on her face. Her lips, caressed by bright red lipstick, and her thick brown hair cascading over her shoulders.

Her honey brown eyes glistened under the lit hallway as she wrapped her arms around mine. Giving Henry a slight nod, she greeted warmly, “Good morning.”

Rolling my eyes, I pulled my hand away from her swiftly. It wasn’t a new action to Anna, as she had always expected it from me. Working with me for six years, she’d had a huge crush on me for so long. The only chance she had at securing a future with me was with the marriage proposal from our families to form strong alliances.

I never entertained her shenanigans and always gave her the cold shoulder. I treated her as nothing more than a secretary, as I wasn’t attracted to her in any way. Anna, on the other hand, had tried forcing herself on me multiple times but failed, causing my harsh treatment towards her to grow.

Sliding my hands into my pockets, I fixed my gaze on Henry as I said coldly, “I’ll be in the car.”

Shrugging my shoulders, I made my way to the car swiftly without giving Anna a glance. Pursing her lips, Anna turned to Henry and smiled awkwardly. She was used to my coldness, but never in front of an audience.

As I approached the car, my phone rang again. Glancing at the screen, I saw it was my mother. Sighing, I answered, “Yes, Mom?”

“Adrian, darling, I just wanted to remind you about the family dinner tonight. Your father and I are expecting you.”

“I remember, Mom. I’ll be there,” I replied, trying to mask my impatience.

“Good. And Adrian, try to be on time for once.”

“I will, Mom. Goodbye,” I said, ending the call before she could continue.

“Boss!” Henry called out to me, as he approached me swiftly.

“Have you gotten information?” I asked, the curiousity in my voice evident as my eyes widened.

“Huh? No sir, I wanted to talk with you about the project,” Henry responded swiftly.

Rolling my eyes, I settled myself into the car. Exhaling sharply, I drifted my gaze to Henry, “Does retirement sound good to you?” I asked, cocking a brow at him.

Swallowing hard, Henry looked at me timidly, “No sir,” he stated firmly.

“Then get me the information I want!” I yelled, scoffing in disbelief as I turned my gaze to the other side.
