Chapter 4

~Adrian~

I remained silent, reminiscing on last night’s encounter with the stranger as we drove through the streets. Her soft moans echoed in my ears as I bit my lips softly. Rubbing my chin, I delved deeper into my thoughts, hoping to find her soon.

“Sir?” Henry called out, disrupting my thoughts.

“Huh?” I responded, turning my gaze to Henry.

“Sir, I’ve been talking about the project,” Henry stated, eyes widened in disbelief as he palmed his face.

I could tell he was agitated, discovering he’d been talking to himself the entire time. I had never been distracted from work. My sudden change of attitude left Henry speechless.

“Oh, the project, right,” I said, smacking my lips as I took the file from Henry’s hands.

Glancing through it, I furrowed my brows, wrinkling my forehead. I couldn’t understand a word that was written down. Blinking my eyes repeatedly, I tried going through the file once more, but the results were the same.

Staring at me with widened eyes, Henry scoffed in disbelief. The displeasure evident from his actions as he bit his lips. “Hangover, sir?” Henry asked, his eyes glistened, hoping to get a positive response.

“No, I’m fine. Your presentation is useless. It’s not understandable,” I retorted coldly, throwing the file back to Henry.

Perplexed, Henry opened the file once more, arching a brow as he said, “But it’s your presentation, sir. You worked on it yourself. How come you don’t understand what you wrote?”

Hearing Henry’s remarks, I glared at him fiercely, my eyes sharp as I cleared my throat. “So I’m a liar?” I asked coldly, eyes expressionless as they remained fixed on Henry.

Seeing my reaction, Henry swallowed a huge lump as he chuckled nervously.

“No, sir, not at all. I’ll rewrite it on our flight,” he said swiftly, in a bid to avoid my wrath.

An eerie silence engulfed the car as we continued on our way. Henry bit his lips, as he continued glancing through the presentation. As we drove down the street, the driver’s phone lit up with a notification, breaking the tense silence.

“Are you trained to have your phone on while driving?” I asked coldly, scoffing with disdain.

“I… I apologize, sir,” the driver stuttered.

Reaching for his phone with trembling hands, he took his eyes off the road to turn it off.

Raising his head slightly from the file, Henry yelled, “Watch out!” Disrupting my thoughts.

Crash!

Taken aback by Henry’s sudden outburst, the driver accidentally stepped on the gas pedal, leading to a collision with a woman.

Seeing the scene, I rushed out of the car swiftly, running towards the unconscious woman. Taking her in my arms, I shook her violently, as I called out desperately, “Miss? Miss?!”

“Get her things to the car, now! We’re going to the hospital,” I yelled, the urgency in my voice palpable as I wrapped her in my arms.

Lifting her from the ground, I carried her to the car, and the driver sped off to the hospital. Arriving at the hospital, I rushed in carrying the unconscious woman, “I need a doctor!” I yelled as I approached the counter.

Four nurses rushed towards me, pulling a bed behind them. Placing her onto the bed gently, I followed behind as they pushed her towards the ward.

“Sir, you’ll need to fill out her information,” a nurse said, stopping me in my tracks. Without giving me a chance to respond, she departed swiftly, following the other nurses Into the ward.

Inhaling sharply, I ran my hands through my hair and took a seat by the side. Pulling my phone from my jacket, I dialed Henry’s number, “Search through her things for an ID, and get me that damned driver,” I stated, ending the call abruptly.

Moments later, Henry walked up to me with a wallet in hand. “Sir, I found her ID,” he said, handing it to me.

Taking it from Henry’s hands, I walked back to the counter.

“How can I help you?” The receptionist asked, smiling warmly as she stared at me lustfully.

“I want to fill out information for the woman I just brought in,” I responded.

Giving me an understanding nod, she took out a form, handing it over to me. Taking out her ID, I filled out the necessary details, returning the form to the receptionist.

Biting her lips, she gave me a slight wink showing her interest, but was met with a fierce stare.

“Mr. Steele,” the driver called out softly, his hands trembling as he knew the fate which awaited him.

“You’re fired,” I said coldly, not giving him a chance to speak. “Henry, find a new driver immediately!” I ordered as I departed back to the ward.

Approaching her ward, I felt a strange sense of déjà vu. There was a familiarity about her that I couldn’t place. I entered the room quietly, my eyes softening as I saw her lying there, unconscious.

Taking a seat by her side, I stretched my hand towards her as I caressed her face gently. “Who are you?” I muttered to myself.

“We need to get to the airport,” Anna said, approaching me from behind as she tried pulling me away.

Shoving her hand away, I turned to her and said coldly, “I’m not leaving.”

Anna’s eyes widened after hearing my refusal,

“We need to get to the meeting,” she argued.

“I don’t have a driver,” I stated bluntly.

“I’ll drive,” Anna responded swiftly.

Seeing Anna wouldn’t give up, I agreed reluctantly. Giving the unconscious woman a final glance, I strode out of the ward as Anna followed behind.

“I’m going to pay her hospital bill,” I said coldly.

“Let’s go then,” she responded swiftly.

Exhaling sharply, I knew she wasn’t going to let me off so easily. Rolling my eyes, I strode towards the counter.

“Hello handsome,” the receptionist said, her voice dripping with seductive intent as she bit her lips.

“I want to pay the bill for ward twenty nine,” I stated swiftly.

“Sure sir, here it is,” She stated, handing me a payment machine and the bill.

Swiping my card, I paid swiftly as I pulled back my card. “Done.”

“Let’s go,” Anna urged, the irritation in her voice evident as she pulled my arm.

“What name do I give the patient sir?” The receptionist asked, stopping me in my tracks.

“No need for names. Just tell her an angel did a good deed,” Anna retorted, pulling me away from the hospital.

Releasing my hand from her grip, I shoved her away slightly as I warned her sternly, “We’re absolutely nothing but boss and secretary. Don’t push me to my limit.”
