I sat in the back seat of the car with Elijah beside me. He had his head turned towards the window of the door on his side, his eyes distantly watching the road.

My right knee uncontrollably bounced up and down, and my eyes jumped from Elijah to Cane and then back to Elijah. Despite having too much on his mind, he still reached his left hand over and rested it on my knee, giving it a gentle squeeze.
