Lady Loretta was directing the maids to clear the used plates and empty bottles and to tidy up the living room after all the guests had left her mansion. She noticed a lady wincing in pain, struggling as she descended the staircase.
"Melody," Lady Loretta exclaimed, shocked to see Melody looking so disheveled, as if she had been beaten severely.
"What happened to you?" Lady Loretta inquired, her shock echoed by the maids in the living room who paused to gaze at Melody. They gasped at the sight of the previously arrogant woman in such a state.
"Milady, it was one of the maids. The maid you assigned to show me to the top floor. She attacked me," Melody managed to say, her cheeks visibly swollen.
"You mean Miranda did this to you? I find that hard to believe. Miranda is gentle and wouldn't hurt a fly. Ever since Miranda began working here, she's never been in a fight that I know of. Are you sure you're referring to Miranda or perhaps another maid?"
While the older woman was questioning Melody after all the guests had left, Derrick walked back into the living room, surprised to see that a guest was still present.
"She did this, ma'am. I'm not lying. Miranda falsely accused me to Master Derrick, and after he left, she assaulted me. She is evil, ma'am," Melody began to sob, noticing Derrick looking at her.
"What’s happening here, Mom?" Derrick asked as he walked over to his mother.
"Mom, you know it’s getting late. You should get some rest," Derrick said, not giving Melody, who had expected him to summon the maid, any attention.
After Melody had lost her job, she expected Miranda would lose hers too in the exquisite villa. Melody realized she had no chance of getting closer to Derrick again. He was predominantly busy in the office and attending high-level business meetings. Similarly, she had no excuse to see him either, as Alexa was his secretary, and many other top female staff members were eager to be with Derrick.
"Mom," Derrick said, looking at his mother, whose hair was now gray. "I’ll have the guards investigate what happened. Melody, you may leave now," Derrick dismissed her, without considering summoning Miranda.
He accompanied his mother up the stairs and helped her back to her room on the top floor. His elderly mother took quite some time climbing the stairs, and Derrick considered relocating her room to the ground floor.
Arriving at Lady Loretta Luis's room door, Derrick paused to gently open it. Everyone knew to avoid disturbing him when he was with his mother.
"Mom, you should rest well. I don’t want anything to happen to you," Derrick said softly after helping her onto the bed. Lady Loretta and Derrick both had a dark complexion. Smiling at her son’s care, she replied, "I’m fine, but you know what would make me happy and rest well? If you settled down. Your father worked so hard to acquire all this wealth for you. I’m past 70 now, and I can’t stay youthful forever. You should consider marrying before you reach thirty, my son."
Holding his mother's warm hand, she continued, "My wish for you is to find a good woman who will love you dearly, pamper you like her own, and take care of you after I’ve gone to watch over you from heaven."
"Mom," Derrick interrupted with a frown. "You’re not leaving me anytime soon." Tears gathered at the corners of Derrick’s eyes; his mother often spoke about passing, and he wished he could trade all their wealth for more time with her.
"It’s life, Derrick. We must go for the world to stay balanced and allow the next generation to continue. But I’m not leaving you yet. I still wish to see you settle down and witness the next heir of the Luis firm."
"That’s fine, Mom. I guess I should let you rest now. Sleep well." Derrick leaned over and kissed his mother’s forehead goodbye. She smiled, watching him leave the room.
Meanwhile, in the master’s bedroom of the exquisite mansion, Miranda relaxed in a warm bath in one of the lush rooms.
"Oh my goodness! This feels so good," she said, unconcerned with the consequences of her actions.
She had quickly entered this room, finding it quite different from the other rooms she was assigned to care for on the lower floors.
"Mm," Miranda mumbled, enjoying the cold night bath. After dealing with the lady who dared to slap her, Miranda wanted to teach her how it felt to be humiliated. She wasn’t one to take abuse lightly, but coming from a lower-class family and becoming an orphan at a young age made Miranda realize the world had little respect for the poor. She aspired to become wealthy, even if it meant stepping on others to get there. She yearned for the good life, a respectable job, and possibly owning a large supermarket or mall.
Reflecting on her life struggles, Miranda didn’t care how long she’d been soaking in the exquisite, expansive bathtub. The bubbling water infused with scented soap soothed her body. Coupled with the chilly night air, Miranda didn’t feel like leaving the bath. She wished to sleep there and forget her worries. She’d let her blonde hair cascade down her back. Although she was extremely beautiful, she remembered the slap Melody had given her. Miranda felt like strangling Melody’s neck but knew she would be imprisoned with no one to rescue her.
"Mmmmm," Miranda indulged herself in the bathtub until she heard the sound of the room door shutting.
"Who’s there?" she asked, initially thinking she was in her maid's room on the lower floor of the mansion. Reality dawned on her as she realized she was in one of the resident's rooms.
"I hope this isn’t Master Derrick’s room," Miranda murmured softly until she heard the bathroom door slide open.
After Derrick left his mother's room, he decided to return to his own room to rest. The night was chilly, and it seemed like it was going to rain soon.Derrick reflected on what his elder sister had said about dating Alexa. He liked Alexa but wanted to focus on his father's firm first and expand it to other states as well as open mini branches worldwide.Returning to his room, Derrick noticed an unfamiliar scent lingering in the air. Flipping the light switch, his deep blue eyes darkened at the sight of a lady's gown and pants on the tiled marble floor. Not only that, he heard a feminine voice humming from his bathroom. His room was vast and spacious, equipped with a study, a relaxation room, and a library for studying, alongside a private gym—a convenient alternative to the shared gym downstairs. His sisters, now married, had left his mother's home. Nicole had been around last year, but after finding her partner, she moved out following her extravagant wedding. Derrick now lived alone
Derrick hadn't expected to struggle with resisting Miranda. Her allure had awakened something deep within him. Returning to his bathroom, he wanted to relax in a bath to quell his arousal but remembered Miranda had used it.Derrick had never shared his bathroom with anyone before; now a maid of low status dared to use his bathroom and his sponge and soap. Feeling irritated, he wanted to discipline her, but how could he explain this to his mother? She was already over 70 years old. What if she had a heart attack from the shock?"No, I can't let my mother find out about this," Derrick muttered to himself. He was frustrated, still feeling his body’s demand for relief."Damn it! What kind of temptation is this? I should have that maid fired tomorrow morning. Isn't she the same one who dared to rough up Melody like that? I see she's on a mission here, and I'll deal with her personally tomorrow," Derrick resolved.Moving away from the bathroom door where he'd been standing, Derrick approache
"Oh!" Miranda rubbed her sleepy eyes, wishing she could continue her wonderful dreams. But when her big brown eyes landed on the wall clock in her room, she gasped, "Oh my goodness! 10 a.m."Although it was Saturday, Miranda knew Lady Loretta often insisted she prepare her tea and attend to her other needs.Leaping out of bed without another care in the world, Miranda quickly dashed out of her maid's room, rushing past Juliet, who shook her head in disgust.Juliet was two years older than Miranda and a single mother, though she kept this secret from the Luis family.Juliet had landed a job with the Luis family after being kicked out of her parents' home. Her parents were wealthy, but Juliet couldn't identify the man who had gotten her pregnant. Having a child out of wedlock was against her parents' standards. She had spent one night with a mysterious man and believed she would recognize him if she saw him again, but five years had passed without a sighting. He was young then, probably
"Derrick, come here. I would like to have a word with you," Lady Loretta said as she called her only son back. She knew that Derrick was not pleased with her decision to pardon Miranda; however, she liked Miranda a lot. Since Miranda had not wronged her personally nor done anything wrong to the other maids, she could not just terminate Miranda's employment in her home.More likely, Lady Loretta had other hidden objectives. She could not disclose her plans yet, as she had personally taken Miranda away from the orphanage and enrolled the young woman in school. There was a time when Lady Loretta had gone to the orphanage for one of her leisurely kind-hearted works. There, she saw the beautiful young girl who was unhappy and mostly staring at the door.Lady Loretta knew the young girl's wish was to leave the orphanage and explore the world beyond to establish herself. She never disclosed to Miranda that she was the woman behind Miranda's freedom. She made an offer to the orphanage to adopt
"Mother, I would like to take a stroll outside to clear my mind on some things, as I said before," Derrick said as he immediately looked away from Miranda. He saw the pain in her eyes and how she had stared at him accusingly.'What did I do wrong to her?' Derrick wondered as he quickly averted his gaze to his mother.Miranda quickly informed Lady Loretta, "Ma, I have prepared your tea. Your breakfast is served.""Good. Derrick, come join me for breakfast first before leaving. Miranda woke up late today, and upon her rudeness last night, she decided to have me starve this morning, forgetting that she had to prepare my tea," Lady Loretta commented as she rose from the couch and strolled ahead to the dining table to have her seat.Derrick accompanied his mother, gently pulling out a chair for her to sit. He said, "And that's why I told you to fire her. Anything that causes you pain shouldn't be kept close to you.""Derrick, I would not like to think that is how you fired all your father's
Even Miranda was taken aback by the new man's words. She had just walked into the living room, slowly closing the door behind her. Miranda didn't want to believe that Alex was as troublesome as Derrick."Oh! That was a rude thing to say, Alex. You should have simply said that you dated Juliet before. I know Juliet Colton is not from a poor home like the rest. She is a classy, bossy girl who exudes an air of superiority. I did my research on her and heard she had a child out of wedlock, which is why her billionaire parents sent her away from their mansion.""She was pregnant?" Alex looked stunned, and Juliet was more than embarrassed that her life’s secret had become public knowledge. She immediately ran away from the living room to hide her shame."Juliet, where are you running off to?" Lady Loretta asked in a low voice as she called Juliet back, but the latter didn't respond and ran to her room to cry it all out.The tension in the living room intensified, and Miranda was equally stun
Looking confused, Miranda did not understand where Lady Loretta was going with her comments."I don't understand, Ma," Miranda said. Lady Loretta offered her a warm smile."I know you're upset about what Derrick said regarding lower-class families. You shouldn't be annoyed with him. It's one reason you shouldn't eavesdrop on other people's conversations," Lady Loretta emphasized."I'm sorry, Ma," Miranda apologized, her head bowed low."It's okay. Come sit here. I've wanted to talk to you about this for a long time, but I haven't had the chance," Lady Loretta added. Miranda finally raised her head and looked at the older woman."Should I sit beside you, Ma?" Miranda repeated, unsure she had heard correctly. What if Master Derrick came in and saw her sitting with his mother? Wouldn't he fire her for disrespect? Miranda wondered, her hesitation clear on her face.Observing Miranda's hesitation, Lady Loretta added, "You don't have to worry about Derrick. He wouldn't barge in here without
Miranda returned to the maids' quarters on the left wing of the mansion. The maids were engaged in gossip about Juliet and Alex, Lady Loretta's grandson.Miranda summoned two maids to accompany her, and they went up to the top floor to Lady Loretta's room to gather her clothes and take them downstairs. As Miranda did not know which room belonged to the older lady, the other two maids showed her the way, and soon they began gathering most of Lady Loretta's belongings.Miranda thought about what Lady Loretta had mentioned earlier about adopting her because she wanted her to become her daughter-in-law.A sad smile played on Miranda's lips, as she truly admired Derrick, but she knew the housemaster loathed her the most. The girls focused on gathering the clothes first and taking them to the lower floor of the mansion.Meanwhile, Derrick left the mansion for a walk to clear his mind. He had a business meeting the following day, and he wondered how he would ask Alexa out."I have never done
The following day, Miranda and Derrick stepped out to go for their wedding shopping, while Oliver insisted on going with them. Miranda wore a red dress that was loose-fitting, paired with black shoes, and had her blonde hair styled in a bun. Derrick wore a blue shirt and black pants, along with black shoes. Oliver wore a similar shirt design like Derrick's, along with black trousers and black shoes. They looked adorable as they walked into the big mall, browsing beautiful wedding dresses and accessories."Welcome, sir, madam. What would you like to purchase?" the sales assistant asked."Wedding gowns," Miranda said, and the young lady clad in a white top and black skirt showed Miranda the collection of wedding dresses they had."Wow, they're all pretty," Miranda smiled as she browsed through the long white gowns beautifully displayed on mannequins."Which do you prefer?" the young lady asked with a bright smile."All of them," she joked, and the sales representative laughed."Lovely!
One week later, it was a bright, sunny Sunday, and Miranda with Oliver was set to travel to the city with Derrick. She had already packed most of her essentials and delivered them to the city. What was left for her was to carry her last box, filled with her clothes and also Oliver's clothes. Most of her cars had been sent to the city as well, but she didn't intend to sell her house or close down her shop. Getting married to CEO Derrick Luis didn't mean that she should discard all her hard work. The sound of a car honking at her gate disrupted her thoughts. Wearing a pink floral dress and plain black shoes, Miranda walked out of her house and approached the black gate to find out who was there. She planned to rent the house once she completely moved out and settled in the city. She had dismissed her gate man, but the estate gatekeeper was still present.Upon reaching the gate, she pulled it open after confirming who was there."Derrick," she smiled, opening the gate for his driver to e
THE NEXT SUNDAY MORNING..Derrick was in Miranda's room, and he spoke to her about her business."Babe, you know that as we're getting married, we will need to know more about our businesses. To follow me to my company and also, make our business jointly together," Derrick said. He lay on the bed, watching Miranda brushing her teeth, as he finished speaking to her about his father's company."That's nice. There's nothing much about mine. You know, I was thinking about it. I won't be able to keep in touch with them here if I go with you. So can we open another branch in the city, while we base there?" she asked him, as she finished brushing her teeth in the bathroom."That's fine. I haven't considered that before. But we need to expand our business to more states," Derrick said.Miranda smiled and joined him on the bed after she was through brushing her teeth. She hugged him and kissed him directly on his lips."Babe, I'm discussing with you about our business, and all your focus is on
"Welcome," Miranda told Derrick as she hugged and kissed him lightly on his lips."Welcome, Dad," Oliver said, and Derrick smiled at him. "Thank you."They entered the house together and made their way to the couch."What's the delicious smell? Is your chef around?" Derrick asked about Emily, and Miranda blushed."No, Emily isn't my chef but my friend. Her mother works for me though, so I took her like my sister," she said, leading Derrick to the dining table, and he smiled as he settled on a chair beside her.Oliver took his seat beside Derrick, and Miranda stood beside Derrick and set his meal in front of them. She walked up to meet Oliver and placed his meal in front of him before she went to sit across from Derrick."How do you see the meal? It's my first time officially cooking," she blushed, observing Derrick's and Oliver's faces as they prepared to taste the food."Um, it's yummy, Mom," Oliver beams and smiled."It's nice," Derrick commented, and Miranda smiled at them and resp
When Derrick arrived in the city, he went home, getting the notification from Lady Stephanie that his mother was at home.As he arrived home, he walked into the house happily. "Mom!" Derrick rushed to meet her and hugged her.Lady Loretta sat on the couch and smiled as Derrick hugged her warmly. She knew he was in a good mood and had heard he went to meet Miranda."Welcome back, Mom," Derrick said, and his mother replied calmly, "Thank you. You look so happy. How are Miranda and Oliver doing?""They are fine, Mom," Derrick said, still smiling, and that made his mother look relieved."I am happy to hear that. It's good to see that she has forgiven you. So when did you both plan to marry?" Lady Loretta asked."Soon," Derrick said, standing up from the couch. "I will propose to her, I have lovely plans for that. So don't worry."Lady Loretta smiled, looking at Derrick's handsome face. "Okay," she agreed."I have to go upstairs and freshen up. How is your health now, Mom?" He looked at hi
Once Derrick and Oliver were in the room."Would you like to bathe?" Derrick asked his son."No, Dad. I am tired," Oliver replied and went to his bed to sleep."How do you see my room, Dad?" Oliver asked as he went to climb on his bed happily."It's beautiful and handsome like you. A typical boy's room," he replied and saw his son smile."Mom helped me to furnish it and buys a lot of game toys for me," he said, grinning from cheek to cheek."That's so sweet of her. I am sorry that I wasn't there with you before. But I promise to set up a bigger room for you in the city, okay," Derrick said as he moved over to his son's bed to meet Oliver.Oliver sat up on the bed and took off his socks."Okay, Dad," he replied and went to lay on the bed and drift to sleep.Derrick looked around his son's room, feeling guilty for being absent in his son's life. He finally walked up to cover him up with his small blanket, careful not to make any noise that would awake Oliver. After that, he turned off t
Derrick's car arrived at a fancy restaurant, and they got out of the car and went into the Restaurant building together. Miranda was nervous to be in the same space as Derrick. This was the first time that he was taking her out on a date.Derrick requested a private spot, and he was taken away with Miranda to the Restaurant's private section.Derrick could see that Miranda appeared nervous. He smiled at her and considered in his mind to get her a lovely wedding ring and to propose to her. But he wasn't confident to propose to her in a restaurant.Miranda sat down first, before Oliver and Derrick, as there were only three chairs surrounding a table where they sat."What would you like to have?" Derrick inquired. Miranda picked up the menu and replied, "Just chicken pepper soup is okay."She looked at her son and asked him, "What would you like to have, Oliver?""The same, Mom," Oliver smiled. He was happy that his parents were together."Okay, bring the same request for me too," Derric
Derrick looked from Miranda to Larry as Larry walked out of the house with a smirk."Good morning, Mr. Luis," Larry greeted Derrick, extending his hand for a handshake.Derrick looked at Larry's open right palm, not wanting to accept his hand. However, upon seeing Miranda looking at him, Derrick finally shook hands with Larry."You should consider yourself lucky that she chose you over me. Congratulations," Larry smirked and waved goodbye to Oliver. He walked away to his car while Derrick shifted his gaze and looked at Miranda.Miranda blushed as she watched Larry get into his car and drive off."What were you doing with him?" Derrick asked as he moved closer to meet Miranda by the door frame, just as Larry's car drove out of her residence."Mom!" Oliver let go of Derrick's hand and rushed to hug his mother, as he was also surprised to see Uncle Larry in his mother's house. Although Oliver knew they were friends, he didn't suspect anything bad."We are friends. So he came around to se
Derrick wasn't pleased that Miranda didn't respond to him after he had woken from his sleep and checked his phone for any possible missed calls. He decided to have his bath, bathe Oliver, and they dressed up in black suits, preparing to visit the local town. "Dad, where are we going to?" Oliver inquired as Derrick dressed him up in the room, combing his son's black hair. "We are going to see your Mom, and my company too," Derrick's reply was short, but Oliver giggled "Yay!" Oliver excitedly walked out from the room with Derrick, and they made their way downstairs. "Good morning, Aunt," Derrick greeted Lady Evelyn, who was around and wearing a white nightdress. She was a chubby woman and very tall in height. "Derrick, where are you and Oliver heading to? I almost forgot that you are controlling Dad's company. Because you're always at home," said Lady Evelyn. She sat on a chair at the dining table. Derrick smiled as he led Oliver to settle on their seat. "I just wanted to t
