“Yes.” Owen nodded, lost in thought for a moment. “If you really want to go, then let’s go.

“But I think the school has a policy—non-students aren’t allowed on campus," Luna added with a smug smile, her eyes catching mine through the rearview mirror.

Screech—

Owen suddenly slammed on the brakes.

He turned to me. "Suzy, get out. You can call a cab to take you home."

In the dead of night, I was left on the side of the road, holding our daughter in my arms, abandoned.

As I stepped out of the car, Luna shot me a triumphant look, her lips silently forming the words, “You lost.”

Had I really lost?

Watching Owen and Luna drive off without a second thought, I let out a bitter laugh as I thought, “This isn’t over yet. Who wins in the end remains to be seen.”

When I got home, I saw Luna had updated her social media.

The photo was of two shadows, pressed closely together.
