SELENE'S POV
“Luna, it's a very delicate situation; the pack will be in so much danger if we don't act fast,” Dalia, my personal mai,d, said, her tone filled with worry. “I understand your point of view but it is really quite late to send a message across the valley now. I do not intend to put any of my messengers at risk with rogues” I countered immediately, my gaze fixed on the short stretch of land that was left for me to arrive back at my pack. “Luna, we may not have until the morning” Dalia began to say again when I pulled the rein of my horse, a shrill whinny echoing as I stopped to look at her. For someone so young, Dalia was very spirited and thoughtful, but sometimes she could get on my nerves with her persistence, just like now. “Dalia, enough.” My tone turned serious, and I shook my head at her. “Will you volunteer to send the message this night?” I asked. Her face paled and with my keen sight, I could make out her hands tightening around the rein of her brown horse. “No, Luna” Her voice was slightly above a whisper. “Then why? Why send a messenger now? What makes you any different from them?” I asked impatiently. “They were trained tㅡ” She opened her mouth to speak. “They are also humans” I cut her off. “Morning,” I said with a tone of finality, tugging on the rein of my horse to keep moving. She muttered an affirmation but she kept following me. As we finally got to the gates of my pack, I smiled. After two days of going around packs to answer the call of emergency we had seen, I was finally back home. Blackthorne Vale. My pack. My home. I was back a little earlier than expected but judging by the fact that I only took Dalia and two guards with me, that was very easy to achieve. Fewer people to weigh me down. “Luna…” A guard at the gate quickly rushed to me bowing while I got off my horse, handing the rein to him. “Get her some apples and make sure she has her blanket; it's freezing.” I tucked my hands into my pockets as I relayed the information to the man, who nodded and walked off with my horse Astrid trotting beside him. “Luna Selene, Alpha Ronan of Silver Hollow pack, has been asking to see you,” My beta, who had just come from the direction of the quarter,s, quickly said, running over to me. I was walking fast to my main quarters, where my husband was probably waiting for me, and what he was saying was the least of my worries. “Vesper, not now” I raised a hand for him to stop. He kept following me, urgency in his tone. “Luna Selene, the emissary is here, what shall we tell him?” Damn it, why does everything have to fall on me? “Look!” I frowned. “Bring all the pending issues to me in the morning. I want no disturbances tonight and tell everyone to take shelter…” I paused to look up at the sky. “There seems to be an incoming storm or something” He followed my gaze and he nodded. “Of course. Good night, Luna Selene.” Then he was off, jogging back to his quarters. Finally. I looked at my house again, and I started walking towards it briskly, smiling to myself when I got to the door. I had been married for two years to Davis Miles. I had met him at a dinner four years back, and even though he wasn't an Alpha or someone of high status, he was very much likable, and we became friends fast. A smile was on my lips at the thought of finally spending time with him after two days of being apart. As I walked up the stairs, I heard the faint sound of voices from upstairs and I froze. No one was usually here at this time but as I listened carefully, I realized it was the voice of my best friend Elara. Oh. Maybe she was here to find out a thing or two from him. I continued my ascent up the stairs, frowning when I realized the voices were coming from my room. She never went up to my room whenever I was around. That was what made me stop at the slightly ajar door to listen to the conversation inside. “...Course not. Tomorrow, I promise” I could hear Davis say in a pleading tone. “We should just get rid of her as soon as possible. You know I want to be with you,” Elara cooed, and I stiffened, my heart beginning to pound loudly in anxiety. “You know I love you, Elara. Tomorrow. I promise. We'll get rid of her, and we can be tㅡ.” Davis didn't get to finish before I heard the sounds of them kissing. What the hell? No, my brain was playing tricks on me. I pushed the door open and felt my knees knock at the sight, the now pouring rain outside seeming to mock me. They were tangled in an embrace, kissing deeply with Davis's hands snaking up her shirt. The sound of the door opening made the both of them jerk apart, stopping on seeing me at the door. “Selene… I didn't… you're home…” Davis's face looked blanched as he quickly let go of Elara but Elara simply rolled her eyes. Was this the face of the woman I knew all my life? “There's no use beating about the bush, Davis” She shook her head at him, her eyes wide before she looked at me again. “Davis and I love each other…” She bluntly announced. My hand against the doorknob tightened, and my chest seemed to constrict with pain, but not even a tear dropped. Davis took a step forward, his eyes pleading, but I raised a hand, silencing him. "You're telling me that my best friend and my husband are in love with each other?" My voice was calm, but laced with venom. Elara nodded, her expression unrepentant. "We are. And we're not going to hide it anymore." I felt a searing pain in my chest, but I refused to let it consume me. I was the Luna, and I would not show weakness. They were a bunch of fools. "I reject you, Davis Miles," I said, my voice firm. "You're no longer my husband. And as for you, Elara... our friendship is over.”SELENE'S POVDavis seemed shocked at my words and he gritted his teeth, the repentant facade simply disappearing as quickly as it was there.“You're rejecting me?” He snarled at me.Elara ran a hand through her messy brown hair and placed her hand on Davis's chest to soothe him. “Honey, calm down” She whispered. The sight truly disgusted me, and I took a hurried step back, my hand on the doorknob falling as I felt the unfamiliar ache in my chest caused by the breaking of the mate bond.It was a hollow shitty feeling, and my wolf, Diane, kept howling silently, feeling the same pain I was.“Get ready to leave my pack in the morning” I managed to spit out at the both of them before I turned on my heels and left the room, my mind chanting the same thing.I needed to get away from this cursed house for a while or I would break down. The rain outside seemed to intensify, but that was the least of my worries as I trotted down the stairs, out of the house, and into the rain, not caring how dr
SELENE'S POV “You have 3 months, don't waste it. Your original body has been preserved… It is now somewhere away from Blackthorne Vale aㅡ” I woke up with a start, my body drenched in sweat as I looked around me, breathing heavily. A woman with slightly graying hair was leaning over me, but she was startled as I suddenly sat up, and she fell on her butt. The house was cozy and warm, the scent of herbs and wood filling the room. Where the fuck was I? I looked around me, wondering how I had ended up; I was right in the lake when I heard that voiceㅡthe voice?ㅡ What did it say? The sound of the old woman's voice brought me out of my daze and I snapped my head back to look at her. “Nyx…” Her tone was relieved and tears filled her eyes as she quickly enveloped me in a hug. I stiffened at once in her embrace and I quickly pulled away, my eyes wide as I stared her down. “Who are you?” I managed to croak, my voice slightly higher than normal. I immediately clasped my hand over my mout

It was true. He had not recognized me.Good.We had been riding for a whole day now and I calculated about an hour's more ride before we would get to our destination.“Don't screw it up, and don't in any way make him know you're the one,” Emelia warned in my head, but I was past words like that.“Emelia, I'm gonna ask you a quick one,” I said back to her whilst grabbing a water skin from the side of my horse to drink from.“What is it?” She asked impatiently, her words sincerely grating on my nerves.“How stupid do you think I am on a scale of one to ten?” I asked her.She was silent for a moment but I could feel her still there in my consciousness. “An eleven,” She said like it was a no-brainer.Wow.“I hate you” I whispered, lightly kicking the sides of the horse so we could keep movin
