SELENE'S POV
Davis kept that stupid smile on his face as he took my hand in his, gripping it firmlyㅡIf only he knew how much I wanted to knock it off his faceㅡ then he pulled his hand away and looked at Ronan who was still staring at me. “Medic Nyx Sullivan?” Ronan asked, his voice snapping me out of my daze as I whipped my neck to look at him. “Yes” I straightened up. He folded his arms, his muscles flexing visibly under his shirt. “That doesn't explain how you know my name” Davis looked between the both of us with a confused expression clouding his face. “You two know each other? I thought Medic Nyx was not from this plaㅡ” “ㅡWhich is why I would want her to explain how she knows who I am” Ronan cut him off, his brows furrowed together and his eyes darkening. This was not how I planned my arrival back into my pack. Shit. Needed to find a way to worm my way out of this one. “I…overheard your name from the emissary sent to us when I asked him on the way here” I blurted out without thinking. His brows seemed to hit his fucking hairline. “And you managed to know who I was based off my name when you've never seen me before?” My lips parted but no sound came out and I was stuck, wondering what the hell I was supposed to say. “Iㅡuhㅡ” “I'm sure there's no need for all this. Please come with me, the others are present at the meeting already” Davis cut in, trying to ease the tension that hung heavy in the air. Ronan cast me a slow long look then he muttered something that sounded strangely close to a curse before he looked at Davis. “Weird psychos” He said audibly before walking out of the two of us. Wow. That was… unexpected. Davis looked a bit thrown off, his expression darkening for a bit then as though remembering that I was there, he smiled again. “Shall we go, Medic Nyx?” He asked and I struggled to rein in my anger so as not to throttle him. I could kill him, right? “Is my mother there?” I asked instead. He stepped aside to let me pass, a resigned look on his face. “Yes, she seemed quite upset and I do understand that this is due to the containment policy we've put into place but this pack is going through tough times and a meeting was necessary, we can't sㅡ” I stopped walking and turned to look at him, anger flashing in my eyes. “Did you seriously just insinuate that your stupid pack matters can equal a pandemic that costs actual lives?!” My voice was a tad higher and I knew the reason for the anger bubbling in my chest fastㅡ This was my pack, they were my people. He looked taken aback when I took a menacing step forward but his surprise morphed into one of cold indifference really quickly. “Medic Nyx Sullivan… my personal pack should be none of your business. You are here to contain it and right now, there has been no threats of a spread amongst the elders of my pack. Now… let us go” He tilted his chin up and kept walking, leaving me behind effectively. What the fuck? “I hate this one” Emelia said in my mind and I almost jumped out of my skin because I had absolutely forgotten for a second that she was there due to how silent she had gone earlier. “Now you know why I hate him” I muttered through gritted teeth before hurrying to catch up with him. He didn't seem to give a damn when I caught up with him and I realized that his attitude towards me switched up when I asked him that question about the pack. “How many deaths are there so far?” I asked, my gaze straying to the pack house where we usually had meetings. “36” He cut to the point immediately and I felt a sinking feeling in my gut. 36 lives lost. Shit. “That's a lot” I admitted as we got to the door and he stopped to look at me. “Yes, I lost my wife to the plague also. That's how bad it is” Then he walked into the hall, leaving me dumbfounded at the door. He lost his wife to the plague? I WAS HIS WIFE! I DIDN'T GET SICK! THEY FUCKING KILLED ME! I whipped my head so fast to look at the direction he was walking in then I walked in after him, drawing my mask over my face properly as I slipped in, determined to get to him and say something ㅡ anything ㅡ to ease the growing sense of anger I felt. As soon as I got in, I was however pulled to the side by someone and I startled then relaxed seeing that it was just Medic Seraphina with a stoic look on her face. “Silence” She said simply and I looked around. The hall was near empty with about 6 elders that I could count seated at the high table evidently discussing something but it was muffled to us standing at the door. I watched as Davis walked to the head seat and sat down, his mask obscuring half his face as he pulled his gloves up as though trying to assimilate the leather to his skin. “We will do a proper cleansing of this pack after the meeting” Seraphina’s voice was a bit muffled. I nodded, trying to calm my racing heart when my eyes fell on the empty seat in the distance. Someone was absent at the meeting and once I knew who, I froze instantly. “Where's the hot dude?” Emelia asked in my head, her bored tone quickly morphing into one of satisfaction. “Found him” I felt a chilling presence behind me and I stiffened because I didn't hear the door open. Slowly, I turned around to see Alpha Ronan staring down at me with a frown on his face. “Medic Nyx Sullivan?” He raised a brow and I nodded, aware that Seraphina was watching me with confusion swirling in her eyes. “Let's talk”SELENE'S POV My lips parted and I wondered what to say for a spilt second before Seraphina beside me spoke up, her voice expressionless. “Can we help you?”Ronan didn't tear his gaze away from me. “No, I'm certain your daughter can help though. You should be here, is that right? The meeting is far more important but a member of my pack in the quarantine room is exhibiting…strange symptoms, I want him checked if you please” He said, his expression bland.Oh.I looked over at Seraphina who looked at me. “Check my bag at the cart in front. Get the Somnaris bloom and administer it to him. Take him to the med bay and give him a Plith herb if he foams and I'll take it from there” She instructed while I tried to grab what she was saying.“Okay” I muttered, silently cursing because I didn't even know what flower she was talking about.I should learn more but there was no time now. I couldn't check the fucking handbook. With a slight twitch of my lips in an attempt at a smile to Ronan who did
SELENE'S POV This was utter chaos and I felt sick to my stomach.“Nyx! Don't just stand there! Hold him” Seraphina yelled at me, her eyes wide as she gestured to the warrior frothing at the mouth violently.Shit shit.It had been two hours. Just two hours since I had brought in that man to the already filled med bay and I was already drained out of my soul. For Seraphina, it seemed almost easy. Damn, the old woman was a hard nut to crack. She had been hopping from one bed side to the other and making sure all the patients were stable when suddenly this man started convulsing and I was feeling sick as I watched him trash about. As soon as I gripped his arm, I held him down and stared at her with fear in my eyes. “What's wrong with him? The Soulfern herb stabled the others from fits. What's wrong with him?” I asked, sweat beading down my head. There were 7 other medics here who were helps and taking orders from us but the fear in their eyes as they stood a good feet away from the trash
SELENE'S POV“Luna, it's a very delicate situation; the pack will be in so much danger if we don't act fast,” Dalia, my personal mai,d, said, her tone filled with worry.“I understand your point of view but it is really quite late to send a message across the valley now. I do not intend to put any of my messengers at risk with rogues” I countered immediately, my gaze fixed on the short stretch of land that was left for me to arrive back at my pack.“Luna, we may not have until the morning” Dalia began to say again when I pulled the rein of my horse, a shrill whinny echoing as I stopped to look at her.For someone so young, Dalia was very spirited and thoughtful, but sometimes she could get on my nerves with her persistence, just like now.“Dalia, enough.” My tone turned serious, and I shook my head at her. “Will you volunteer to send the message this night?” I asked. Her face paled and with my keen sight, I could make out her hands tightening around the rein of her brown horse. “No, L
SELENE'S POVDavis seemed shocked at my words and he gritted his teeth, the repentant facade simply disappearing as quickly as it was there.“You're rejecting me?” He snarled at me.Elara ran a hand through her messy brown hair and placed her hand on Davis's chest to soothe him. “Honey, calm down” She whispered. The sight truly disgusted me, and I took a hurried step back, my hand on the doorknob falling as I felt the unfamiliar ache in my chest caused by the breaking of the mate bond.It was a hollow shitty feeling, and my wolf, Diane, kept howling silently, feeling the same pain I was.“Get ready to leave my pack in the morning” I managed to spit out at the both of them before I turned on my heels and left the room, my mind chanting the same thing.I needed to get away from this cursed house for a while or I would break down. The rain outside seemed to intensify, but that was the least of my worries as I trotted down the stairs, out of the house, and into the rain, not caring how dr

Where the fuck was I? I looked around me, wondering how I had ended up; I was right in the lake when I heard that voiceㅡthe voice?ㅡ What did it say? The sound of the old woman's voice brought me out of my daze and I snapped my head back to look at her. “Nyx…” Her tone was relieved and tears filled her eyes as she quickly enveloped me in a hug.
