"So Nyx is my mother and Alpha Leander's mate?" Helia pinched her chin. "Oh my goodness! I'm dreaming, right?"

"This is reality," Brient muttered. "Alpha Leander slept with Nyx and this led to you."

"How many people know this?" Helia asked.

"Before Nyx's death, four people knew. After her death, it was reduced to three. Now, it has increased to six."

"So just you, my dad, and the Luna knew of this."

"Right."**

"I don't think Alpha Leander would kill Nyx if she was his mate," Selene remarked.

"Alpha Leander did not kill Nyx. It is not in his character," Brient affirmed Selene's words.

"Then who did? And why did she curse the werewolves?" Rendall asked and Brient shook his head.

"They are things that are just too hard to figure out. I was still in the human world when Nyx died and I don't understand how Nyx's death is related to the werewolves."

"So she cursed the werewolves for nothing?" Rendall snapped and Helia's eyes produced more tears.

"My biological mother made the lives of so ma

"What did you just say?" Selene asked. She was stunned at what age has heard Rendall mutter.Rendall glanced at her, pointing in the direction he had seen the man."I— I saw my father," Rendall cried out. Selene looked in the direction in which he had pointed."Where?" Rendall looked back and froze. The man was nowhere to be found. It was like he had disappeared into thin air all of a sudden."But I thought I saw him," Rendall muttered with a confused expression on his face."Forget it," Selene hissed. "It must have been an illusion. Seems like you're beginning to miss your father.""Miss my father my foot," Rendall scoffed. "No normal person can ever miss my father. I can never miss that man.""Perhaps, you had seen someone that looked like him.""I guess so," Rendall droned and he looked around to see if he could still see the man."Just forget it," Selene said casually. He looked away and turned back to her."So," Rendall set out to change the topic. "Do you know how I can change

"They've seriously made up?" Brient looked on in shock. Rendall and Helia were hand in hand with each other as they walked into the room Brient and Selene booked."You booked just one room?" Rendall asked and took a sit on the edge of the king-sized bed."Not one room. Two rooms," Selene answered. She was seated mid-way on the bed with Brient. A chess board with chess pieces decorated all over it was between Selene and Brient. "This room belongs to Helia and me while the other belongs to you and Brient.""Oh! But Selene," Rendall looked at Helia, "can't Helia and I share one room? You and Brient can share one room.""Naughty boy," Selene scoffed and Rendall turned to her. "Your relationship with Helia should better be kept innocent."Brient chuckled. "Are you seriously asking a wolf to keep his relationship with his mate innocent? I've you ever heard of an innocent wolf?""Exactly, so Helia will stay with me while you'd stay with him," Selene stated with an air of finality and Rendall

"War?" Rendall and Helia asked in unison."Darn it!" Rendall hit the table hard with his palm. He stood up and began to pace around the room. "I told the old man. War shouldn't be an option. The lives of the low-ranked were-creatures are being threatened.""This is a disaster," Helia said, digging her hands deep into her hair. "How did the war begin?""Both kingdoms had begun a search for their heirs since both of you disappeared. A Few weeks after your departure, a letter from Brient was sent to Alpha Leander, assuring him of the safety of Helia. Alpha Leander's mind was put to rest but there was nobody to reassure Alpha Janus of his heir's safety. Later on, Alpha Janus somehow got to know that the heir of Khron had disappeared too. So, Alpha Janus began a war against Khron. He claimed that the heir of Khron was conjured up by a witch and had bewitched his heir and trapped him.""It's all a facade," Rendall snorted. "He had always wanted to war with Khron." Helia remembered what sh

Rendall stomped on the road of Wulfe which led to the Alpha's court. The citizens of Wulfe just stared on in wonder as he strode. None had the guts to say a word to him. Greeting him was hard too. They had not forgotten the last time Rendall was heard of. He had run off with a werelioness after shifting into his wolf form when it wasn't a full moon night. He got to the Alpha's court and guards that were meant to guard the gate made way for him as they all cowered in fear."Alpha Janus," Rendall called out curtly as he stood in front of the Alpha's throne room. With his silver spear in hand, Alpha Janus, who had gotten infuriated, left his throne room in fury to see who had called his name with so much disrespect.Raising his silver spear, Alpha Janus was ready to kill whoever had been disrespectful to him but he was stopped in his tracks after he came out and saw that it was his only son and heir who had called his name rudely."Rendall. Helia stared through her window at the starry sky, expecting her mood to be lifted like it always does whenever she stared at it.Her face was wet with tears. She was mourning her mother's death— her mother's undeserved death. Helia sighed. Who would have thought that the woman she had hated all her life was her mother? Who would have thought she would mourn Nyx's death like she was doing? Who would have thought that Nyx was the victim in the whole plot? The person was not Helia.Looking at the starry sky, she still found it hard to believe that it was all true. Perhaps, everything was a weird and scary dream that she would wake from one day. She hoped that the day was soon. She had always seen Luna Ariela as her mother. She treated her like a daughter too and was very good at it. Helia wondered if the love she had received from the woman was fake too.‘What a weird twist of fate,’ Helia thought to herself. The woman she had loved so much was the one she hated so much now and she had

"Where did you go to?" Alpha Janus asked as soon as Rendall walked into his room. Rendall scowled at him."What are you doing in my room?" Rendall barked."You had gone missing and I got worried. Did you go hunting again?""How is it your business? Why are you being creepy?" Rendall frowned at the man relaxing on his bed. Since his arrival in Wulfe, his private space had been invaded.Alpha Janus sighed. "You're my heir. Naturally, I'm concerned about you.""You're just being nosy. I am more than capable of taking care of myself.""I know. With your wolf around whenever you need it, I have fewer things to worry about, but you still have to be careful and shouldn't underestimate the werelions of Khron.""If you had not attacked Khron, we would not have needed to worry about the werelions," Rendall snarled and Alpha Janus looked away."If I had not attacked, they would have.""Do you think their Alpha is as insensible as you are?" Rendall snorted."How dare you?" Alpha Janus snapped. "R

You don't have to be rude to me.""Apologize to Alpha Leander."Alpha Janus laughed. "I don't see that happening."Rendall scoffed and stood from the bench."Don't you want to know what I had gone to Ocean Ville for?" Rendall was stopped in his tracks as he heard the question and he turned to his father. "What did you just say?" "I just asked if you—""You really went to Ocean Ville?" Rendall was flabbergasted. "Why?"Alpha Janus tapped the space on the bench beside him that Rendall had sat on earlier. "Sit.""I'd rather stand. Just tell me all I need to know."Alpha Janus heaved a sigh. Alpha Leander stomped into his throne room, fuming with Helia trailing behind him."Sebastian!" He yelled as he sat on his throne and a lanky young lad rushed into the throne room and knelt before him."When will be the next full moon night?""A month from now," the lad answered."How are our spies doing?""Staying in Wulfe as a spy during the day is hard for a regular werelion because of Nyx's curse. I've been able to find a few lionless werelions but they are not quite experienced. However, news has reached me from them that ever since Alpha Janus' attack, the army of Wulfe has been preparing for a strike back from Khron."Alpha Leander roared on hearing Sebastian's report."But, my Lord, I've also heard that Alpha Janus cares less about his people. The soldiers of werewolves he recruited are being trained specially to protect him and not the grassroots werewolves.""Foolish Alpha," Alpha Leander snorted. One of them was on their knees, gasping for his last breath."F— father?" Rendall's voice quivered.Alpha Janus' head was bowed in shame."You tried to kill me?" Shock was written all over Rendall's face. He knew that his father was evil and despite the threats, he never really thought that his father could try to kill him."Save me.""I can't. If I could, I still wouldn't. You deserve what has befallen you," Rendall spat disdainfully.Helia s

He began to look around and Helia sighed."You can't see me, remember?" "Oh! You're right. You're under an invisibility spell. You were still in my father's room after I had left, right?""Yes.""And you heard Mr. Wilkinson and my father talk about me, right?""Yes.""What did they say?"Rendall's question was followed by a long silence."Your father. He is so—""Evil?""Evil is too weak to describe what he is. No offense, but I'd rather not have a father than have a father like yours.""I know right? So, what did he say?" Rendall asked and he raised an eyebrow as he heard her sigh again."We have to be cautious.""What did my father say?""That he'd kill you if he finds out that you're trying to trick him," Helia said and Rendall chuckled sarcastically."Well, I'm not surprised. "Everything that happened, happened according to how it was fated to. All this happened for one result. The werewolves are getting punished for taking the land of the witches. The werelions are punished for not helping their neighbors." "How do we get out of her punishment?" Helia asked "That's for you both to figure out. You both have the knowledge you need to break the curse of Khron and Wulfe. You have to. It is your destiny to do so." "Since we are destined to save Wulfe and Khron, we'll do so, right?" Rendall asked and Alecto smiled. "We have destinies. We can also choose whether or not we want our destinies. You can choose to save the werewolves and werelions. You can also choose not to save the werewolves and the werelions," Alecto answered with a casual shrug and Helia and Alecto glanced at each other. Damien turned to Helia with his body still glued to that of Rendall. "Please hug me too." Helia opened her arms and Damien gestured for her to come closer instead. "But—" Damien's face fell, interrupting Helia's protest. She waved her hands in surrender and joined them. Rendall froze as her skin touched his. His heart began to flutter and so did Helia's. At that moment, they both realized that the rejection did not work. Damien smiled to himself when he saw them look at each other. Mr. Wilkinson smirked at Alpha Janus, brought another pair of eye contacts, and gave it to him."What do you think?" Mr. Wilkinson asked when Alpha Janus wore it and Alpha Janus looked at him."How do you use this? Can you hypnotize simply by looking a person in the eye or do you have to do something else?"Mr. Wilkinson raised an eyebrow as soon as he heard Alpha Janus' question and then he grinned. "Why are you trying to move faster than your shadow?"Alpha Janus was thrown off guard by Mr. Wilkinson's question before he quickly put himself together. "I'm just very curious, you know. I'd really love to know.""You seem—" Mr. Wilkinson's voice trailed off and Alpha Janus frowned.‘Just tell me how to freaking use the Gizmo, stupid human,’ Alpha Janus cursed in his mind."Your thoughts matter too. "Werewolves and witches have a history?" Rendall was shocked."A painful one at that. Haven't you heard any folklore concerning it? Or at least a myth? You werewolves are good at telling fake stories anyways just for storytelling's sake."Rendall scoffed and looked back at the book. "Let's check out what is written in it. Do you think it's because of the history that Nyx cursed Wulfe too?""My mother did a great job by cursing the werewolves. I would have done the same," Helia said."Let's just check the book," Rendall said. He was tired of hearing Helia's complaints. She rolled her eyes, removed the book away from his face, and opened it."What's written in it?" Rendall joined her in checking the book and they both turned white as they flapped through the pages. The book was telling a story. It was a story of how the werewolves had forcefully taken the land of witches away from them.A long time ago, werewolves had no particular land. They formed packs that were ruled by an Alpha. A

Helia placed her middle finger under her nose to know if she was still breathing. She was. She placed her hands on her chest. Her heartbeat was normal."Does death come this slowly?" Helia asked herself and immediately she felt something lift her. She snapped her eyes open and as she did, she screamed.Peering down at her was a blue-eyed white beast. She batted her lashes as it dawned on her that it was Rendall in his wolf form. She was in the arms of Conri, Rendall's wolf."From frying pan to fire," Helia muttered to herself. "You're joking, right?" Rendall frowned as he heard Alecto's words."Joking? Should your father killing Alpha Leander surprise you? Why would Ariela tell me she killed Alpha Leander when she did not.""He he. All I know is that your father has a hand in Helia's father's death.""How do you know the things you know? Who are you?""He he! You'd be the first were-creature to ask who I am. The rest assume they know but I can assure you that I'm not what they think I am.""Then, who are you?""You would know how with time," Alecto smirked. "All you have to know now is to go to the human world to Nyx's house.""Nyx's house? But we—""Helia is on her way there," Alecto chipped in and Rendall did not bother to argue again."Did my father really kill hers?" Rendall looked down at his feet and Alecto heaved a sigh."I warned you not to ask me that it'll hurt.
