Ryder’s POV
“Don't worry about it! He's stable. He might not be able to get out of bed, but he's strong enough to cop a feel on us,” Michael said, trying to reassure me, but it didn't help. I felt awful that I couldn't find her books yet. There's just so much stuff to go through. My brain is fuzzy, and I can't remember exactly where I put them.
“Yeah, listen to Michael. He's okay. If Noah is stable enough to try to get laid, you have plenty of time. Don't stress; you just got here, and you have a lot of unpacking to do. Besides, there might be nothing in there about his condition. You'll be stressing yourself over nothing,” Asher said.
I laughed and shook my head as I pictured that darn little Omega on death's door, still trying to get laid by his Alphas. It doesn't surprise me in the least bit to hear he's doing that.
I waved to Asher as he left my apartment. I tried to ignore Michael, but I could feel his eyes boring holes in my skull.
“Will you knock it off! I can feel your eyes on me! I'm okay!” I snapped at the Alpha, and he laughed. I looked back and glared at Michael, and he pushed away from the wall before walking toward me. I turned my head away and tried to ignore him, but his freakish height loomed over me, and I groaned as I turned to face him.
My arms folded across my chest as I huffed out a breath.
“What? Spit it out!”
“You know what. You didn't just shut your friends out after her death; you shut family out, you shut me out. We're not blood, but we have always been Brothers,” Michael said, and I snapped at him.
“Don't you say that! Don't fucking bring her up! Don't you dare talk about her!” I yelled, my eyes immediately filling with tears, but my voice was firm and strong.
Instead of getting angry, Michael's eyes softened, which only made me angrier. I didn't want that! I didn't want whatever bullshit this was he was trying to give me. I wanted to be left the fuck alone like I've been the last two years. I don't want pity, I don't want them to grieve with me, I want to grieve alone!
“No! I won't stop because you're my brother; she was like a sister to me.” Michael said that I grabbed the collar of his shirt and pushed him against the wall.
“I'm fucking warning you!”
“I won't try to pretend I know what it feels like to lose my mate. Just saying it is unbearable. But you're trying to die with her, and I won't let you,” Michael said, and I screamed as I pulled my right arm back, my hand curled into a fist. I roared as I threw my fist forward. Michael didn't even flinch when my hand flew past his face and pierced a hole in the wall.
“I'm here for you; I always have been,” Michael said as he wrapped his arms around my neck and pulled me into a hug.
I growled as I pushed against him, but the asshole only held on tighter. I yelled, and the tears fell from my eyes. I screamed her name and begged her to come back before my knees gave out. My Alpha gently allowed us to drop to the floor, and he held me tighter as I cried out her name over and over again.
~
I slid a glass of bourbon across the counter to Michael before taking a sip of my own. I forgot what it was like to have a friend. I pushed everyone away after her death. I knew it was none of their fault, but I hated everyone. I didn't want anyone around me but my daughter and my mate's cute little cottage.
I forgot what it was like to lean on someone and share my pain with them. I tried not to do that with my daughter. It wasn't her responsibility to hold me up. It was my responsibility to hold her up.
Sitting here with Michael, I realize how wrong I was. By shutting myself and my daughter out from the world, I only made things worse for ourselves.
“Thank you!” I said quietly, and Michael reached across the counter and squeezed my hand.
“I'm always here for you! Always! I was just waiting for you to let me back in,” Michael said, squeezing my hand a little harder before releasing it and taking a sip of his bourbon.
We both look up when red hair bounces into the kitchen. A smile beams on her face, and a basket of flowers she cut this morning hangs from her arm.
She pulls on my arm, pulling my face down to plant a kiss on my cheek.
“I love you, Daddy! I'll be back. I'm going to visit Vivian and Ivy,” Azalea said before she happily bounced away.
“Wow! The older she gets, the more she looks like her.” Michael said, and I smiled.
“She does. She looks just like her mother. She's just like her. Sweet and innocent.”
“Her birthday is in ten days; she'll be 18, right?”
“Yes, don't remind me. I'm not ready for all that. I'm not ready for her to be 18 and find a mate,” I said, and Michael laughed.
“You're never ready. I wasn't, not even when the last one turned 18. Heck, Noah still gives Nadja hell if he gets too handsy in front of him. I had to pry that little stinker off the Elder just a few days before he fell sick.” Michael said with a chuckle.
“You know, maybe I should get to unpacking so I can find those books.”
Michael reached out and grabbed my hand to stop me as I began to stand.
“No! I'm sorry, I didn't mention that to make you think you had to find the book. Don't worry about that book. You'll find it when you find it. Like I said, there might not be anything in there about this.
When the group gets back from their trip, I'm sure one of them will be able to figure out what's wrong with him.” Michael said.
Nadja and Evelyn went somewhere exotic. It was a surprise, no one knew where they were going. The Elder refused to tell anyone until they got there.
The only thing everyone knew was it was a place so remote they wouldn't have cell phone communication, and he was right. Since he teleported them away, no one has had cell phone communication with them since.
Ryder and Michael look toward the door, and when it opens, Azalea comes bouncing in.
“What happened? I thought you were going to visit Ivy and Vivian?” I asked.
“I was, but they're down at the lake swimming. I was going to have them take me to the hospital so I could visit Noah. Would one of you take me?”
“Sure,” Michael and I said at the same time. Michael chuckles before downing the last of his bourbon and sliding the glass across the counter.
“Why don't we all go? I wouldn't mind seeing that little munchkin,” I said as I put our glasses in the sink.
Azalea's smile widened as she hooked her arms with ours.
As we walked down the stairs, she let go of my arm and continued to hold on to Michael's. She told him all about her wings. I couldn't wipe the smile from my face if I tried. She was so adorable; everything about her screamed innocence.
The smile fell from my face when I realized she would turn 18 in ten days. I never thought about what kind of mate she would get until recently. Now, it terrifies me.
What if she got someone like me who didn't want anything to do with her mother when I first met her? That would crush her and break her little heart. The thought of anyone hurting her angered me. It made me want to take her back to that little cottage and shelter her from the world… but I knew I couldn't do that. I've been doing that for the past two years.
“Mama said my wings are just like hers and can become hard like a shield and protect me or anyone else I wrap them around. I've been trying but haven't been able to do it yet. Daddy said it would take time to master all of my abilities. I haven't figured out how to teleport yet, either. I'm kind of scared to do that. What if I end up on the other side of the world? When Grandpa comes home, he's going to teach me! I can't wait!” Azalea said, the words flowing from her mouth so fast I was surprised she could breathe.
Michael chuckles and roughs his fingers through her hair as they reach the bottom of the stairs.
“Lucian is a great teacher. You'll Master your abilities in no time with your pops teaching you,” Michael said as he opened the door and held it open for Azalea.
Her eyes twinkled with excitement as she walked out the door. She came to a stop in front of Coal and a stranger with handcuffs wrapped around his wrists. The man was large, with tattoos covering his body. He was obviously a prisoner and was being led to the Alpha's office by the Beta.
“Ah, hold on, step back and let them through,” Coal said as he tugged on the prisoner's arm.
“Hi! My name is Azalea!” My way too innocent and naive daughter said to a prisoner who could crush her with his pinky.
He raised an eyebrow as he looked her up and down.
“You're way too happy to be saying hi to a prisoner! Move along, short stuff,” the guard said, and my little girl frowned. She glared at the guard, and he began laughing.
“She's cute when she's angry,” he said, and I growled as I pushed past Michael and stepped toward the guard. I didn't stop until my chest touched his, and my face was inches away from his.
“Don't even look at my daughter, or I will break your fucking neck!” I growled in his face. I felt my daughter tugging on my arm.
“Daddy, be nice!”
“Yeah, Daddy, be nice,” He said with a smirk. I grabbed his shirt and growled as I jerked him toward me.
Coal tried prying us apart and finally succeeded.
“Damn it, Maverick! Will you knock it off! I didn't save you just to have another member of my pack kill you,” Coal said as he pushed the prisoner back further away from me.
“Someone has a death wish,” Michael laughed as he looked at the prisoner.
The prisoner's lips tugged, and he nodded his head. Before he could speak, Coal slapped his hand over his mouth.
“Damn it, you guys! Can I just get him into the Alpha's office!”
“Come on, Daddy, let's go visit Noah,” Azalea said as she tugged on my arm.
I gave the asshole one last glare before my eye softened as I turned to look at my daughter.
“Come on, sweetheart,” I said as I leaned down and kissed the top of her head. I wrapped my arm around Azalea and led her away from the prick, who was seconds away from being killed.

Third Person's POV Maverick chuckled as the tall Alpha walked away. He brushed the front of his shirt off, trying to wipe her stupid floral scent off of his shirt. He didn't like the way it smelled. He hated flowers, and she reeked of them. You would have thought the little thing had been rolling around in a field full of flowers. He thought and shook his head. His attention was brought back to Coal when he yanked on his arm and jerked him forward.“Calm down, lover boy. You can't be jealous of that. They meant nothing to me,” Maverick said.Coal groaned and began mumbling curse words under his breath. The Beta has regretted many times that he saved this idiot's life. Today is one of them. “Do you always have to cause trouble when you cross someone's path? He's never going to let you out of jail if you can't get along with others. And what the hell was that? You practically ran her over!” Coal said in frustration. He felt like tugging his hair out. “It's not my fault she's so short!
Third Person's POV “Ha,” Maverick chuckled and rubbed his fingers over his mouth, a sign he was trying not to laugh. “What?” “Oh, nothing.”“Don't “nothing” me! What?” Coal said, his annoyance evident in his voice. “It's just, are you sure you want to make that move?”“Yes! What's wrong with it?” Coal said. The Beta scanned the chess board again, trying to figure out what he did wrong.Maverick chuckled and shook his head. “Just busting your chaps,” Maverick said. His smile fades as he scans the board. He rubs his fingers through his beard as he concentrates. His lips curl up on one side as he reaches forward. “Check!” Maverick said, and Coal scoffed. He moved his piece, and Maverick called check again.Coal's frustration is palpable as he moves his piece.“Run, Queen, run, I'm gonna get ya!” Maverick said before moving his piece and calling check again. The guard sitting at his desk shifted in his seat. He was ready to duck, waiting for Coal to get angry and chuck the board down
Third Person's POV When Coal enters his bedroom, he comes to a stop when he sees his mate lying on the bed. His beautiful little hybrid lies on his stomach with a white sheet draped over his ass. His knees are bent with his feet in the air, ankles crossed, and his toes wiggling as he reads his book. His long hair rests against his back and hangs over his shoulders. His cute little pointy elf ears poke out. He slowly turns the page and begins reading the next chapter. He doesn't get very far. His Alpha's eyes feast on his body as he stalks across the room. Nathan gasped when he felt his mate's warm, wet mouth lay an open kiss on his ankle. The book fell from his hands when Coal trailed his tongue along his calf. His eyes closed, and his head fell forward as Coal continued his trail of open-mouth kisses up the inside of his thigh, pushing them open as he climbed between them. Nathan's breaths come faster, and his heart pounds in his chest. The Alpha pulls the sheet from his body and
Ryder’s POVIt's quiet; it almost feels like I'm in her cottage, but I'm not. It doesn't smell like her. This place isn't decorated with her touch. I don't see her everywhere I look. Her garden isn't outside; nothing of her is here except the things of hers I brought with me. I look at them spread out in my office. I don't know how long I've been standing here looking at them. It feels like minutes, but I know it's been hours. My heart aches; everything in me screams to go back to where she is. I know she told me she was not there anymore, but to me, she is. She was the color on the walls, the flowers in the vases. She was the vegetables in her garden and the yellow shutters against the sage green house. She was everything and everywhere. I existed in her world. She was my world, but my world is now gone. How do I go on without her? I feel so lost. My purpose is almost gone. It was Angelica and Azalea. Angelica is gone, and Azalea will be 18 soon. Soon, she'll be gone as well, off liv
Ryder's POV The music is so loud I can barely hear myself think. The stench of perfume and sweat is so pungent it burns my nose. My body buzzes, and I swear I see two of everything. I don't know how I let Keith and Eric talk me into this. I hated the idea, but after downing a bottle of Scotch with these four goofs, going to a club in the human town didn't seem so bad. Now that I'm here, I regret it. “Come on, Ryder! The dance floor is packed with hot human women. Let loose and relax. Let yourself have a little fun,” Eric said as he tugged on my arm. He grabbed my face and turned my head, forcing me to look toward the dance floor. When he did, I saw the other two fools—one with a long-haired brunette and the other with his tongue down a man's throat. “Look, there's two hot blondes giving us the look. Let's go,” He said, looking at me as he pleaded. “I'm going to order another drink. Go drag Keith out there, and I'll be there in a little bit.” I said before picking up my empty glas
Ryder's POV I feel like shit as I try to wake up and pry my eyes open. When I finally opened my eyes, it felt like sandpaper was in them, scraping against my eyes. My head is throbbing, my muscles ache, and my neck is killing me. For a brief moment, I saw two of everything. My vision slowly clears, and everything comes into focus. When it does, I have no idea where I'm at. The room around me is unfamiliar. My eyebrows furrow as I lift my head and scan the room. Images from last night come crashing down on me, and my heart leaps. “Angelica!” I said excitedly as I turned to face my angel. The only problem was, when I looked at the naked body lying next to me, it wasn't my angelica; it was a stranger. A woman with long, straight black hair and tattoos down her arms, along her shoulder, spine, and lower back, lays completely naked next to me. The scent of sex was strong in the air. Her arousal still lingered, and her orgasm smelled fresh, even though I knew there was no way it was. That
Third Person's POV “I swear you're trying to get fucking locked up for the rest of your life!” Coal scolded, tugging on his dreads in frustration. Maverick chuckled as he grabbed Coal, pulled him against his side, and wrapped his arm around him. “You worry too much about me. I knew you had a crush on me,”Maverick grunts as he tumbles down the hill, which he is thankful is not as steep as it was near the cell’s exit. As he rolls to a stop at the bottom, he lays there for a moment, looking at the sky, before he bursts into laughter. “You're ridiculous!” Coal retorts.“Your underwear is wound too tight. Roll down the damn hill and lay here with me!” Maverick laughed. Coal huffed, folding his arms across his chest. He breathes heavily through his nose before turning and looking around, wanting to make sure no one is looking. When he's sure no one is near, he walks down the hill and lies down next to Maverick.“What the hell am I doing lying at the bottom of some hill with you?”“Beca
Third Person's POV Ryder groaned in frustration, Not a single shirt worked to cover the mark on his neck. Not unless he wanted to look suspicious wearing a shirt with the collar up and buttoned to the top. ‘Or wait, a turtleneck midsummer is even better! That would definitely not draw suspicion, would it?’ The retired Beta thought sarcastically as he ripped the turtleneck from his body and threw it at the wall. He shook his head, wondering how he ever thought that would work. He growled in frustration as he pulled the button-down shirt on then paused and stared at the door… A thought came to him… Ryder slowly opened his door and listened for his daughter. He was sure she was gone, but he needed to be certain. He listened as carefully as he could for any little sound, her heartbeat, her breath, the creek of a floor, anything… He heard nothing. He pulled the door open and entered the hall before walking into his daughter's bedroom. He paused, looking at the little dresser thingy that s
Kyle's POV My cheeks felt hot as I turned to look at Kevin, but I melted when I saw the smile on his face. His hand again touched my face, but this time, instead of watching his fingers, he watched me, as if looking for my reaction to his touch. His touch felt amazing, and I closed my eyes and leaned into it. “I don't know what to think. You kissed me. You took my first kiss, but then said you couldn't do this. I don't want to hurt you, but you're hurting me,” I said once the back door shut behind Lucian as he stepped inside to grab lemonade.I swore I heard Kevin's heart skip a beat when I spoke. I looked up, wanting to look at him to see if I could figure out which part of what I said had caused that. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell. His eyes rapidly moved across my face with a greater look of wonder.“I… Y-you've never kissed anyone before?” He asked, and I felt my cheeks become warm. Of everything I said, that is what he got stuck on and caused that reaction…I looked down and sho
Kyle's POV I could tell my parents wanted to know the extent of my assault but were afraid to ask, and I'm glad they didn't. I don't like to think about it, let alone talk about it. At times, I can still feel their disgusting hands on me, touching in places they shouldn't have. I can feel the rogue between my legs, and it makes my skin crawl. I woke up screaming last night and scared my dad. I hated seeing the sadness in his eyes and the look that told me he knew all too well what I was experiencing, and he did. They wanted me to take the day off, but I didn't want to. Work is therapeutic for me, and I love what I do. I didn't stop by his room this morning to walk into work together like we usually do. I wanted some time alone with my thoughts and hoped to finish some work before he showed up. I know it'll be hard for me to focus on anything but him once he does.I was nose-deep in work when the door opened, and Kevin walked in. I didn't lift my head right away, but when I did, I r
Kyle's POV I woke up to the sound of a TV quietly playing and fingers combing through my hair. Kevin's scent was strong, and I didn't smell the sterile scent of a hospital room any longer. I hummed as I nuzzled against him before opening my eyes to look at my surroundings. His hand moved to my back as I opened my eyes and looked around. When I did, I realized we weren't in the hospital room where I fell asleep; we were in his bedroom at the packhouse.I lifted my head to look at Kevin, and his hand moved to my cheek, caressing it as his eyes swept over my face. “You're finally awake,” He said softly, his eyes landing on mine and causing my heart to flutter before beating faster.I couldn't believe I was in his bedroom, in his bed, and in his arms. I wanted to pinch myself. It had to be a dream! “I-I am… how long have I been asleep?” I was confused. How did we get here? I can feel his broken arm against my back, and I don't feel the cast. When did it come off? Where's the swelling
Kyle's pov “Don't worry, his wolf is strong. He was already healing him by the time the other doctor and I began working on him after the x-rays. He lost a lot of blood, but by the time we were able to get blood into him, he only needed 1 liter. We were able to fix his arm. His wolf is quite impressive. While we were setting the bones, he was trying to heal them. He's in a cast. At the rate his wolf is healing, it should be able to come off tomorrow. He has stitches on both of his sides and his back. His body will probably push them out by tonight as he finishes healing. If there are any stitches remaining when he comes in to have his cast removed, we'll remove those, too. Don't worry; he'll be okay. For the wounds he sustained, he's doing great!” The doctor said before leading the Alpha away to talk to him privately. I didn't waste another second; I raced into the room and had to stop myself from leaping onto the bed with him. My chest tightened when I saw Kevin lying in a hospit
Kyle's POV I sprinted out of the woods; my body still ached, even though most of the external wounds were healed. As soon as I cleared the tree line, I saw Kevin limping toward us. I don't know what it was about seeing him, but everything that happened and almost happened came flooding back, and the emotional toll of it all broke free, hitting me like a ton of bricks. My lip trembled as I struggled to keep my emotions under control, but it was harder than I thought, and tears immediately rolled down my face. I saw the relief on his face, and when he said my name and tried to hobble faster, the dam broke, and I began crying as I ran faster. I was careful not to knock him over, but still collided with him. His good arm immediately wrapped around me, and his head dipped to my neck. His body froze before trembling… He must have smelled them all over me. One of them jacked off and came on me as the others tried to get me hard and rape me.“I'm sorry! I… I couldn't get away. I-I tried to
Third person's POV Kyle cried and squirmed as hands touched him in places no one but someone he loved should. His legs have been spread wide open, exposing his most sensitive places to those disgusting pigs.He cried harder when they touched him between his legs, probing his ass and tugging at his flaccid cock as if they could somehow make it hard.Blood ran from his nose just as fast as tears ran from his eyes. The rogue on top of him was furious that he couldn't get him hard. Pain radiated in his face, and for a brief moment, he couldn't hear or see anything. The more they tried to get him hard and failed, the angrier they became. The angrier they became, the more violent they were. The rogue on top was shoved off, and a new one took his place, determined to fuck the Omega senseless.Unbelievable fear soared through Kyle when the rogue between his legs lined himself at his entrance. Kyle screamed as loud as he could and fought back, giving it everything he had in a futile attempt t
Maverick's POV The blood-curdling screams of Kyle had me dropping everything in an instant and sprinting in his direction as fast as I could. Shade pushed forward and growled when he smelled the stench of rogues. It was ridiculous how large these fields were. I was nearly a mile away, but thankfully, I was fast. I looked to my right when I heard Kevin cry out in agony. With Shade’s hearing, I heard the crunch of what I can only assume was a wolf biting into him and breaking a bone. I knew if I didn't help him, they would rip him apart in no time. There were too many to fight without Shade's help, so he pushed forward further. The scent of smoke was faint. I couldn't tell if any patrols were nearby over the alarming number of rogues. I didn't want to risk anyone seeing the smoke coming from us if Shade came forward too far, so he stayed back far enough that the smoke wouldn't be so strong and visible. My long, razor-sharp claws extend, and I growl as I plow through the group of rogu
Third person's POV Once I had stopped crying, I worked as fast as I could. I wanted to be done so I could go home. I wanted my dad; he always seemed to make me feel better. I plan to tell Kevin there's no need to come back with me. I can handle looking at the samples with Carla and John. I think it's best if we keep our distance. I need some time to get over him, even though nothing has really started yet. I don't know why I fell so hard and so fast, but I did; I couldn't even stop it. Somehow, it just happened. I don't think I could work with Kevin. Being so close to him and knowing he'll never steal those little touches again. Knowing that the kiss that almost happened will never happen. It's too much. It'll be torture to work beside him. I feel excited the closer I get to the woods. The closer I get, means I'm almost done. Taking one sample from the apple trees does no good. That section may not be contaminated. Each section is marked, and we take a sample from the beginning of
Kyle's POV I have a good feeling we'll find what we've been looking for in the meat samples. I was tempted to skip the fields, but I'd rather not miss anything. Besides, collecting fruit and vegetable samples is much nicer than collecting meat samples at the butcher. I wasn't freezing, and it didn't stink. I had the warmth of the sun, a warm breeze, fresh air, and a handsome man beside me as company. “So… have you not found your mate, or did something happen to him?” Kevin asked as he closed the lid on a sample jar. “No. I never found my mate. I don't know if he died when I was younger or if I just never had one,” I said with a shrug of my shoulders. “Hmmm,” He hummed as he wrote the sample name on the tag with a sharpie. His question got me thinking about him. I knew he didn't have a mate, but I didn't know why. I didn't know if he had found one and they died or if he was like me and never found his mate at all. I'm not sure which I would prefer. On one hand, if he had already fo
