Out of the Ashes

Out of the Ashes

After losing his mate and unborn child in a deadly attack, Alpha Asher vowed to never love another woman again. Fast-forward to six months later, while attempting to find the one responsible for the attack, Asher finds himself at a popular nightclub, where Vampires and Werewolves meet. Amongst them, is a human waitress, Miranda, who Asher instantly recognizes as his mate. Miranda feels a strong connection towards Asher, but doesn't understand why. After finishing her first official shift at the club, Miranda wakes up only to find herself in Asher's car. In Asher's eyes, Miranda is the exact opposite of the woman he once loved, and the kind of women he tolerated. She is outspoken, and she's not afraid of him. Asher feels challenged just by Miranda's presence alone, and he seeks to tame her. Now Miranda must find a way to escape Asher, and his world of strange creatures, where everything she thought she knew and believed is proven to be a lie. And little does Miranda know, her will won't be enough to overpower the desire of her heart, which now seem to beat only for Asher.

Chapter: Chapter 16
Narrator-Elaine returned from the shower, dressed in a sheer white bathrobe. She tied the bands around her slim waist, but the cloth itself barely did anything to hide her nudity underneath. Her black hair had been towel-dried and was now plaited on the right side of her neck. She wore a rose-scented perfume. When she closed the door behind her, Dillon's tears had dried up. He leaned his head against the dresser, his face looking away from Elaine. He blinked softly and gulped timidly. Though he appeared lost in his thoughts, his accelerating heartbeat was enough warning that the vampire was mentally preparing for and fearing another possible assault from the huntress.Elaine noted the thrumming of Dillon's heartbeat in the border of his carotid, and she rolled her eyes."Relax Dilly-boy, I'm not in the mood." She expressed with a bored tone.Dillon didn't respond. He simply gulped again, and his right wrist slightly twitched against the chain holding him prisoner.Elaine released an

Dillon breathed out, as if he misheard Elaine. "You asked what I wanted, and I said I want a kiss." Elaine clarified. "Why?" Dillon wondered. "What do you mean 'why'?" Her fingers began to press down on his windpipe. Dillon stiffened and squeaked. "Wait-" he half-begged and half-squeaked all at once. Elaine pressed further. Dillon's wrists pulled at their restraints, but his actions were futile. When his face paled, his mouth ran dry, and his eyelids started to blink groggily, Elaine released his neck with an angered grunt, and walked away. "Didn't you learn anything from the last time you chose to question me?" She turned around and demanded sharply. "Yes-I-" Dillon's faint, panting words were cut off by a cough. Elaine waited for his lungs and injured throat to calm down. "I- I'm sorry

Narrator- "Nanda?" Aunt May called out while approaching Miranda's resting figure on the Alpha's bed. "Nanda." May called again, sitting carefully, while placing her palms on top of Miranda's right hand. "Miranda, wake up." May cooed softly, shaking Miranda's hand. Miranda mumbled in her sleep, her brow furrowing slightly. "Come on Nanda, wake up." May encouraged, though her tone was slightly anxious. Miranda hummed then sighed, before her eyelids slowly opened. Aunt May's picture was the first thing Miranda saw, and for a moment she felt at ease. She knew that she must've been dreaming, and aunt May was now waking her up. Aunt May smiled down at Miranda, who smiled in return while silently thinking that her brain had made up the entire kidnapping at the club. But then, in the corner of her eyes, appearing a few steps behind her aunt, Miranda saw him. Miranda's pupils flooded with a troubled gaze, her eyebrows frowning with panic. She drew in a quick breath and pushed herself of

Chapter: Chapter 13
Asher- The girl was still sleeping in my bed. My bed. A place which hasn't been occupied by another extra body since... This girl was already invading my space a little too much. I needed to figure out how to handle her situation before getting rid of her completely. I didn't need a mate. No one would ever replace... The girl sighed and hummed in her sleep. Why was she so dang familiar in mannerism to...? No. No she wasn't. This girl was toxic. I could tell. She talks back, has an attitude, and she's human. I didn't have the patience to deal with breaking a human into our world. If she wasn't smart enough to accept the fact that regular humans were not in fact on top of the food chain, then I wouldn't be able to help her. "Alpha?" I heard Josh's voice outside my door before he gave three firm knocks. I instantly had a headache. "Alpha, sorry to disturb you, but it's urgent." Joshua spoke again. Maybe if I stayed really quiet, he would think that I'm asleep. I didn't have the

Asher- I looked down at the girl's unconscious form gathered in my arms again for the second time tonight. Her mouth was shut, her lips appearing soft, and yet I knew they harbored a tongue that was sharper than paper. "Good, you caused her to pass out again." I heard Joshua comment. "Boy, you sure have a way with women." He added further and shook his head. "Must be that sunny charismatic Alpha Male charm." "Are you done?" I snapped before I could think about it. Joshua raised his hands, his palms opened to the night sky and shrugged. I scoffed and looked down at the girl again. She appeared so pure and innocent, but I imagined she needed a sign of CAUTION: EXPLOSIVE WHEN AWAKE taped to her forehead. The chick was insane, and not what I wanted to deal with at all in this moment. "Hello, earth to Asher!!!" Joshua called out. I blinked and looked at him, bored. "Geez, for a wolf that claims to detest his human mate, you sure do a lot of staring." His comment suddenly made the

Narrator- "Is that so?" Damien wondered, while sitting back in his chair, "and who is she?" "A human girl." Elaine replied, while perched on her father's desk. "A human?" Damien echoed in question. "Yep." Elaine said with popping emphasis on the 'P', "saw her with my own eyes and everything." "Well, this is quite interesting." Damien mused, "How was he with her?" "What do you mean?" "His behavior," Damien clarified, "did he seem happy to have a new mate?" "Oh no. He hates her guts." Elaine commented with a smile, then she added, "For a second I thought he was going to rip her throat out." "Really?" Damien questioned. "Yeah, but then George showed up and long story short, the girl is with Asher now." Elaine recounted. "George, that meddling snake." Damien noted, his fists instantly tightening. Elaine didn't comment on her father's words about George, nor did she show any emotion. "How do you want me to proceed?" Elaine demanded instead. Damien looked at his daughter and l

Carter watched the air intensify between his son and the fuming waitress. This wasn't going the way he had imagined. "Jacob enough. Let her go." She wouldn't cry. There was enough in this world to make her cry. Like the fact that she couldn't remember the last time she'd had a decent meal, or the feeling of purchasing new clothes. However, a jerk like Jacob couldn't make her cry.Jacob did a once-over on Stephie's angry face, then with a scoff, he let her go."Stephanie wait." Carter called after her before she rushed out of the office, urging the girl to halt once again."I know a girl of your manners, no matter the situation, knows to listen to her elders." Carter continued, "it is obvious that we started on the wrong foot. Please, allow me to treat you to a meal. Allow me to explain myself and my

In the driver's seat, Jacob glanced at the empty road in front of him, before his gaze wandered back to the girl's reflection in his rearview mirror. She had caught him staring, and now she focused her gaze out of the window.Stephanie was her name.At the realization of his wandering thoughts, Jacob shook his head and focused on the road once more. Why was he concerned about her name?He had noted the way she eagerly counted the petty cash, and he also noticed how a mere hundred dollars made her happy. Jacob could only imagine that she was desperate for money. Any girl in the waitress business was. Sighing, Jacob realized that he was already thinking too much about this stranger; especially when he had more pressing matters to think about. His mother passed. She had asked for him on her deathbed, and he hadn't been there. Nor was he closing a deal at the time. No. Instead he had cowardly sat in the hospital parking lot, waiting for the alert from his mother's private physician. As an

Chapter: Chapter 1
It was closing time at Pepe's café; a quaint and humble space large enough to comfortably accommodate twenty-five seated customers and five more at the waitress' bar. Leather booths lined the front wall, and the large glass windows were decorated with orange, red, yellow and brown maple leaf stickers. The neon open sign which faced the street soon switched to Closing Soon. The usual strong scent of freshly grounded coffee beans had faded in the atmosphere, and blended perfectly with the soft aroma of the last baked sweets left in the store that day; vanilla with a hint of dark roast.A couple who had shared blueberry muffins and hot cocoa in the far booth near the bathroom stood and made their exit while waiving at the waitress who stood behind the bar and wiped the counter for the umpteenth time since the start of her shift. The waitress, Stephie, a caramel-skinned girl with wild brown and blond curls and coils currently pulled back and tied at the base of her skull, wore a simple bl

Narrator- The tick of the clock hands bounced off the wall of the kindergarten classroom, housing fifteen children, and their two teachers. Crayons colored beyond the lines of their drawing, giggles erupted all over the classroom, as the children completed their final tasks of the day. Cara smiled and lifted her eyes from the folders she was organizing to look out onto the innocent children who found the simplest reasons to smile in this world. Her eyes flashed to the ticking clock and she soon started the mental countdown which led to the ringing of the release bell. Upon hearing the bell, the children cheered and dropped their coloring crayons. They hurried to their personal cubbies to retrieve their backpacks and lunchboxes.
