Gwen’s POV They kept repeating the word like a spell. Safe. "You’re safe here. You’re home now. You don’t need to worry anymore." Each time someone said it, my chest tightened, as if the word itself were a lie my body refused to accept. Safety, I had learned the hard way, was not about walls or wealth or familiar corridors. Safety was knowing who would believe you when you spoke. Safety was knowing that if you broke apart, someone would kneel beside you instead of diagnosing the cracks. By that definition, this house was anything but safe.

Living room with old couches, kitchen that looked like it hadn't been updated since the eighties, a hallway leading to bedrooms, someone had stocked the place recently, food in the cabinets, beer in the fridge, blankets on the beds. She read the words twice, then a third time, as though they might rearrange themselves into something else. The brothers. Her chest tightened, her hand trembling slightly as she typed a reply. Where? Three dots appeared almost instantly, blinking as someone on the other end typed. Wherever you feel safe. Public, private, your choice. Safe. Her breath hitched at the word. She didn’t remember the last time she’d associated safety with people. Safety, to her, had always been a locked door, a bolt slid across, her back pressed against it as she tried to breathe in silence. Safety meant isolation, not trust.

I finally relent, “We will go now, but before we leave, I want you to give me a safe word.” “Fuck!” I heard Garrett say, but I never tore my eyes from the fiery woman in front of me. “Safe word?” She asked, and I could see the confusion in her eyes. Which explains how much she didn’t know about the other world I used to live in. “It’s like a code,” I explained patiently. “Choose one word, it can be anything. Something that you will say and I will know if there was something you couldn’t handle, or if there was something you are afraid of, or if you feel like you are in trouble. The moment I heard that word, I knew what you meant, and I will get you out of that place.”

It got to the point where I could head-off the attack with the proper breathing meditation. It was imperative that I didn’t let my fear show. Something deep inside of me was extremely unsettled right now, telling me that this was no coincidence with what’d been going on lately. Luna Destiny was ushering people inside of the safe room once we got onto the floor. It was meant for those in the pack that couldn’t or shouldn’t fight for whatever reason. Children, those without wolves, any female who was pregnant, nursing mothers, and the elderly.

For now, I couldn't give them more than what I know, but I will eventually get more information. I looked at each of them, a sense of responsibility weighing on my shoulders because I was the one who brought them into this mess and I will be damned if I let anything happen to them on my watch. "There's a safe house about fifty miles from here. It's off the grid and heavily fortified. We'll have to travel there, but it's our best chance." I added as they all stared at me, I could see the fear and doubt in their eyes, but i swear on my life I won't allow anything happen to any of them

I know from the moment he asked me to leave and go get the coffee from the safe, something bad was about to unfold. My manager taught me about the safe room; that if there was something bad to happen we needed to rush to his office and press the red button and the titanium doors would keep us safe until one of the company's security men came to open it for us. I asked wondering how he knew my name and why he was so worried. "Well I will introduce myself later come on let's get you to safety.." He said leading me to the safe house. "Take care okay be safe.." he said once I was inside then closed the door while I looked on wondering who he was. I shrugged it off going over to the big hall. the safe house was a very huge underground house that could hold over one thousand people. It was built in such a way that even if there was a massive earthquake it would never crumble.

I ask, "Like a week and a half," he responds, "Damn," I whisper more to myself. We check the message at the same time which says, 'Safe space, safe code," What the hell? "The hell does that mean?" I ask totally and completely bewildered, "There's a place that no one knows about. The only people that know about it are the ones that work for the Silent Man. He calls it the Safe space. And the safe code is the code you use to get in that safe space," he explains. Frankly, I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for Nathaniel. I don't know what I would do or where I would go.
