ENZO
I was on my way home from work when my Bluetooth alerted me to an incoming call. Part of me wanted to ignore the call, but I hit the button to accept it instead.
Was it too much for me to wish that the outside world didn’t exist for the rest of tonight? All I wanted to do was grab a shower and drop onto my bed, finding sleep after another exhausting day. It was a little after 10 at night.
“You need to get your ass over here. I’m sending you my location,” my brother, Niccolò, said the moment that the call connected.
The urgency in his voice gave me pause because Niccolò was rarely like this unless something serious happened.
His location came through to me. I wasted no time in clicking it on the display so that it would pull up the map to get me there. It looked like I was fifteen miles away so not that far.
“Tell me everything,” I demanded.
I knew that he hated it when I demanded shit, but I didn’t care right now. This was the time for me to know what I would be walking into.
“I was following a gut feeling after witnessing an altercation earlier. I have no fucking idea where hunters fall into the equation, but I was alerted to one of their vehicles being in this area. Something’s going on, and we have to stop them.”
I cursed and tightened my grip on the steering wheel, realizing the seriousness of the situation.
Niccolò was what one classified as an intuitive. He was known for getting feelings, sometimes strong and sometimes subtle, that guided him. All seers were intuitive but not all intuitives were seers. He didn’t get visions but did get the next best thing. His feelings were not always easy to follow but always important.
The Goddess was selective when it came to bestowing gifts on her wolves. Niccolò’s gift had saved our pack’s ass time and again, something I knew that we were all thankful for. Therefore, I never questioned him when he got them.
I pushed the accelerator down, getting the car to go as fast as it would go. Thankfully, my Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ was fast as fuck because I needed that speed right now. It was also a damn good thing that cops didn’t frequent these suburban areas at this time of night.
“I’ll be there in eight minutes,” I told him before ending the call.
My wolf, Titan, was bloodthirsty for revenge against the hunters, and I was no better. They were responsible for the deaths of a handful of our pack members.
Hunters did exactly what their name suggested. They hunted but not wild animals like deer and woodland creatures. Nah, they hunted supernaturals. If that wasn’t bad enough, they often took those supernaturals to torture and experiment on. It was truly disgusting what they did.
There was a reason why we safeguarded the knowledge of our species. Nobody wanted to be captured and experimented on by the hunters or scientists. Too many of my kind had been killed after they were no longer deemed useful.
There was a time when one of our allied packs had been targeted and nearly wiped out by the hunters. Thirty of their pack members had been taken and used by the sick fuckers before they were disposed of. Their bodies had been found back on the decimated pack grounds after four months of them being tortured.
Some people were truly and utterly fucked up. It was positively disgusting the lengths that these people would go to. It was precisely why we did everything that we could to track the hunters and cockblock them whenever possible.
It was ironic that the hunters said we were the monsters in the equation. They should really be looking in the mirror.
I knew that I was at the right place when I saw my brother talking to a couple of our elite warriors who must’ve been with him earlier because we were nearly forty minutes away from the pack. I didn’t live there, opting to live closer to the company that I ran, but the others here did live in the Midnight pack.
I parked my car behind Niccolò’s and got out to join them. The guys lowered their heads in greeting. I was technically the Alpha heir, so pack members always treated me with respect due to my future post, even though I never wanted to take over when Dad finally decided to step down.
I didn’t want to be Alpha and would rather focus on the business side of things. I took over as CEO of Vittori Enterprises from my uncle four years ago. Dad didn’t agree with me that Niccolò should become the next Alpha. He was barely two years younger than me and had every quality that an Alpha needed. It was never something that I desired for myself, and it wasn’t something that Dad understood. He felt that everyone would jump at the chance to be an Alpha, but I wasn’t one of them.
“Their vehicle will be coming down this street soon. I figured the best course of action is to have Joshua throw out an illusion, making them think that something ran out in front of them. That way they aren’t alerted to our presence until it’s too late,” he explained.
It was a solid idea, so I nodded in agreement. Damn good thing that Joshua was here tonight. I had no idea if that was because of a stroke of luck, Niccolò’s gift giving him nudge, or divine intervention. It didn’t really matter though because it was our benefit either way.
My ears picked up the sound of a vehicle heading our way. We ducked down behind our vehicles so that we weren’t spotted. We needed the element of surprise for this to work out the way that we hoped for it to.
A black SUV looked unsuspecting, but we knew that those vehicles were equipped with plenty of weapons that could fatally wound or permanently injure us. None of us were keen about being on the receiving end of that.
“Now,” Niccolò prompted Joshua.
His illusions always looked real, which made his gift so powerful. I had never seen anyone who had his level of control over that type of gift.
I watched as a large wolf barreled in front of vehicle and smirked at the thought of what their faces looked like right now. Were they scared, intimidated, or eager to get their greedy little fingers on the prize of a lifetime like that wolf? It was bigger than typical Alphas were.
The driver slammed on his breaks, which caused the vehicle to fishtail. What kind of fucking idiot did that at the speed they were driving at? I was not surprised at all when it flipped the vehicle. There was no doubt that the fuckers definitely felt that. Hopefully they were still alive so that we could give them a dose of their own medicine while extracting as much information as we could about their operations.
I smirked when I heard groans of pain. Today might’ve sucked at work, but this brightened my mood right up.
Their hearts began racing as they heard the glass crunching underneath our feet. We needed to move this along quickly before anyone showed up.
Niccolò mindlinked that he already reached out to Diego. He was one of the state troopers that were a part of the pack. It was important for our pack to have people on the inside of law enforcement in our area for cases like this right now.
There appeared to be four males. They were outfitted in tactical gear, so they were out this way for a purpose. I was curious to know what that reason was.
“Take care of them,” I said.
Our warriors immediately complied, opening the doors and dragging them out. They started fighting our warriors, but they were no match.
“Shit,” Niccolò cursed, pulling my attention away from Titan’s newest chew toys.
I followed his line of sight and saw someone else in the backseat. ‘One of these things is not like the others,’ I mused to Titan.
This female would appear to be the answer as to why they were out here. Her hands were zip-tied behind her back.
I climbed into the backseat and used my claws to shred through the binding before carefully pulling her out of the car. I barely felt the glass that cut into my knees, being more focused on her.
A frown pulled at my lips when I surveyed the damage to her body. It caused anger to surge right through me.
Glass had cut into her when it exploded as the vehicle flipped. That wasn’t the worst though. A bruise in the shape of a handprint marred her cheek, clearly having been slapped. Then something had happened to her face as well.
Titan was growling dangerously in my head, seething with rage. I had only ever seen this kind of anger from him when it came to our pack members being harmed. He had never had this type of reaction on behalf of a stranger before.
“Violet?” Niccolò asked absentmindedly, staring at the unconscious woman in my arms.
At least she's getting away from the hunters now. I look forward to hearing what you think as this story progresses.
ENZO“You know her?”He moved in for a closer look and lifted her arm up, looking for something. He sucked in a sharp breath when he saw a deep bruise on her arm.“I met her today. The altercation that I mentioned earlier happened when we stopped at a diner for lunch. No idea what in the fuck had happened, but her boss was already holding her arm tightly, as can be seen for it to bruise that deeply, and had his other hand poised to strike her. I intervened and promised that I’d break his wrist if he tried striking her. He ran away like a pussy. She thanked me and told me her name.”The growl this time wasn’t from Titan but me. Niccolò looked at me in surprise at my reaction. Yeah, get in line because I was just as surprised. He just cleared his throat and continued.“This morning, I had gotten the feeling that something big was going to happen today. That’s why I had the guys with me today. I think that I was led to that diner for more than just protecting her from her boss but because
VIOLETThe accident, glass being crunched as someone walked over it, and the voice saying to take care of them were the last things that I remembered before everything went dark.My body felt like it had been through hell, but I supposed that it had given everything that happened in such a short period of time.I attempted to take stock of everything that I could before I opened my eyes, uncertain about what would be waiting for me.My body was laying on something soft, surprising me because the assholes hadn’t seemed to care about my comfort when they manhandled me. It would appear to be a bed that I was laying on if the silkiness of its sheets was any indication. At least they were good quality. That right there was a plus. Why would they care about placing me on a bed? I got the impression that they were elitest bastards that thrived off of the pain that they inflicted on those they deemed to be unworthy.I was focusing on their glaring lack of personalities that could be at least s
ENZODad was just as wary as we assumed that he would be when it came to the situation surrounding Violet. It was filled with too many unknowns both about who she was and why they had her.Alpha Nico was known far and wide as a calculating bastard. He was feared by his enemies for a very good reason. He was a stickler for things being done a certain way. One such thing was assessing potential outside threats before they came into the pack. Normally, those seeking sanctuary were taken to temporary housing until they could be assessed properly. They were never just brought right into the packhouse like we did with her. What worked in Violet’s favor was the fact that she was saved from hunters.Dad held a small soft spot for those who have faced hunters ever since he rescued Mom after she was captured by them and kept for six long days. It had taken a long time for Mom to heal from the horrors that she faced there, but she did eventually heal. The only thing that Dad said was that we were
VIOLETGruff voice guy was a drop-dead sexy specimen of a male. So much so that it had temporarily caught me off-guard. Somehow, I had been able to hold an icy glare instead of drooling like an idiot.Things went downhill when other people showed up. I felt trapped, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to take them all on. Again, I had found myself wishing that the explosion bullshit would work on cue. Everything happened quickly but ended up with me agreeing to a talk. He did say that I could keep the letter opener, so I held onto it tightly.I smiled inwardly at the fact that I actually got a wound in on him. While it might not seem like a big accomplishment, seeing as it was just a superficial wound, it was a big deal for me. I was awfully proud of that fact. It felt great to fight back. I had no doubt that he could’ve mopped the floor with me, but he was just focused on evading my crappy moves.“Right in here, spitfire,” Niccolò said, holding the door open for me.I bared my teeth at hi
VIOLETHere went nothing…“You know how Yoda can use the Force? Well, that’s kind of what happened. Never had it happened before until the confrontation with my boss and then the one with Ron.”They didn’t seem to be freaking out or scoffing at the absurdity of it all. No, they looked intrigued. Did they actually believe me even without witnessing it?“Go on,” Niccolò encouraged me.Fuck it. I was just going to rip the Band-Aid off and tell them what Ron said and did. It’d be on them to decide whether or not they believed me.I told them what he had said about Mom and me. Enzo’s jaw clenched when I explained about him selling me off to the assholes. Niccolò smirked when he heard that I eluded them by sneaking out through my window. Yeah, I was proud of that bit too. Then I finished off with getting tossed into the SUV.It was silent for a couple of minutes while they took everything in. I saw their eyes go unfocused at the same time. It didn’t last longer than a minute, but it was real
VIOLETMy mind was officially blown wide open with the revelations that were shared with me.Looking outside gave me confirmation of the truth. I watched as a woman literally transformed into a wolf. There was absolutely denying it after witnessing that. I had told him to prove it because I truly thought that they were just messing around with me.I was a huge fan of books with supernatural origins. Fiction. That was its classification. It was amusing that werewolf fiction was my favorite genre to read. There were numerous times when I wished that worlds found amongst the turning pages were real.I almost wanted to laugh because of the direction that this discussion took.Nerves had taken a hold of me before we even began because I knew that our discussion would end in one of two ways. They’d either believe me or not. Therefore, they’d either help me or kick my ass to the curb. There had been no telling which one they’d choose, but I was thankful that they decided on the former option.
ENZOLooking at the interactions between my brother and Violet, one would think that they had been friends for a long time. Nobody would assume that they had just very recently met.Niccolò’s personality tended to draw people in, so I wasn’t the least bit surprised when it happened to Violet. Honestly, I hadn’t seen Niccolò open up so quickly and freely as he had with her.I agreed with him that there was just something different about her even if neither of us knew what it was. This situation wasn’t easy on her. She spent her entire life believing that she was human, and the supernatural world was just a fictional element. Then everything changed when the truth was metaphorically slapped her in the face.I had to hand it to her though. Her reaction to it all was fairly mellow. I wasn’t certain if it just hadn’t set in yet or if her mind was just more open to it. There was a variety of reactions that I’ve witnessed over the years when humans were exposed to the truth. Sometimes it went
ENZO“You stupid fucking bitch. I should’ve just killed you the day I figured out that your whore of a mother was a fucking monster,” he spat at her.If I hadn’t been looking at Violet, I never would’ve seen her eyes flash in response to his words. I made a mental note of that for later. Clues like that would help us to narrow down what she was. It didn’t matter what that ended up being. It was only important so that she could be trained properly. An easy example was someone who held magic within them. Think about it. If they were being trained as if the magic was a witch’s magic but was actually Fae magic then it could become problematic because those two types were vastly different. There were fundamental elements that could be triggered without someone realizing it.“Ah, but then you wouldn’t have made the big bucks that you demanded that I provide to you. God forbid that you actually worked for your own money. Instead of manning the fuck up and putting on your big girl panties, you
VIOLET(5 Years Later)A lot of changes have occurred over the past five years. Some were easier to deal with than others, but all were important in one way or another.I smiled as Enzo walked out of the packhouse with our girls on either side of him. Ava and Lily were completely inseparable and the best of friends. You would never guess that they weren’t biologically related if you weren’t aware of it already. Lily took after Enzo’s Italian roots. It gave her the beautiful skin tone that he had, his eyes, and a curly texture to hair that was a shade between mine and his. They were describing, in detail, a Princess story that they had seen. It didn’t matter if a lot of it went way over his head because he was engaged in the conversation, asking the right questions to keep their excitement high.He was cradling Elio in his arms, doing that bouncing thing that our infant loved. I swore that he was a fearless little man. Elio was now six months old and looked like my replica, which his
ENZOI held my mate closely, refusing to let her out of my embrace after nearly having been shot yet again.Everyone had been shocked when Hilmaya didn’t even hesitate to jump into the bullet’s trajectory without needing to consider her choice.Violet would’ve been able to shield herself from the bullet, but Hilmaya didn’t know that. It wasn’t like she was innocent in all of this shitshow. Whether she committed the acts or not, she did have knowledge about some of Zaxyn’s dealings if not all of them. Therefore, she was also responsible. What would come of that was yet to be seen, but I knew that nobody would let her off scot-free.Hilmaya had put out a message, via the intercom, demanding everyone to stand down. That the Apperson family and anyone on their side was to stop the madness or else they would have nobody to blame but themselves when they were taken down instead. Then she released another message, which was blasted on speakers that were outside where the other fights were occ
DAPHNEEli and I headed back to the estate after getting the male, female, and child situated at the packhouse with some of the other Fae who hadn’t joined in the fight. It made me happy to know that they would be safe and wouldn’t have to live in fear any longer. They would be able to choose what their future looked like.Max had already said that the pack would accept any innocents who had nowhere else to go as long as they would abide by the pack’s rules. One thing that I loved about him was how much he cared about everyone. Pack members and non-pack members alike. He was an honorable Alpha who would do everything in his power to ensure that those who needed protection would receive it one way or another. Likewise, he also did everything in his power to ensure that those under his protection had every opportunity to live freely, making their life into what they wanted it to be like.Just like he had embraced all of the new pack members, he did so for me without hesitation. ENZOI wasn’t surprised at all that Zaxyn was a true piece scum. He apparently thought that his shit didn’t stink, but it did. He reeked of desperation, of the need to control everything so that he could maintain his position as evil douche of the century.Something that should be noted was that he couldn’t stand on his own. He hid behind others, allowing them to take all of the risks while he reveled in all of the rewards. He had power because of those he had under his control. It wasn’t true power.I barely bit back the snarl that wanted to be hurled at him when he called my mate an unclean bitch. Nah. He wouldn’t be shown an emotional response. Emotional control was imperative during battle. Losing control of our emotions could be what got us, or our people, killed.Once the electricity was cut, we sprang into action.Violet and Candice went after Zaxyn. He teleported away like the fucking coward that he was, but the two followed right after him. For a brief moment, my heart squeeze
CANDICEA part of me had worried that I wouldn’t live long enough to see justice being served to the shitty part of my biological family for every horrible thing that they’d done and every person that they had a hand in hurting. My visions showed me that it would happen but not how long it would take to occur. It took a very long time, but it was finally here. There was something very freeing and empowering about that. It also seemed fitting that it’d be me, Kaia, and our children who would be coming for them. Our offspring were complete badasses and had incredible power at their fingertips but also had remarkable control over it. Even Daph did. She wasn’t quite on par with Vi or Lilac, but that was simply because she was relatively new to wielding her magic whereas the other two had much more practice. It didn’t mean that she was slouching or anything though.I was incredibly proud of my daughters and beyond grateful that I was blessed enough to be their mother. There was one positive
VIOLETTwo days was barely a blink of an eye, but it was all the time that we had to prepare for ‘The Takedown’ as Eli had dubbed it.The Appersons held power. There was no denying that fact. However, that didn’t mean that we lacked our own power. The difference was that our power was pure and untainted.Mom called in some favors. She had made many allies over the years by being a badass superwoman who never hesitated to lend a helping hand and protect anyone who truly needed it. She had done it all from the shadows to remain hidden from the Appersons. We had eighty Fae on our side, a hundred and ten werewolves, a phoenix, fifteen vampires, and twenty-one witches. We could've had more werewolves, but we didn't want to leave the packs vulnerable. Yes, you saw right. Vampires. I wasn't sure why I was surprised when I met Victor and his coven members. Everything that I had once thought of to be fiction was anything but. Talk about mind-blowing. I loved getting the rundown of that partic
CANDICEMy mind ran through all of the potential possibilities of what Violet’s vision might have entailed. She called me an hour ago and told me that she had a vision about Zaxyn and needed to have a meeting with all of us. Whatever she had seen was enough to shake her. I could hear it in her voice as she spoke.“Can you get Daph so that we can head downstairs,” I asked Eli.“Sure thing, Mom,” he said before freezing, cheeks pinkening with a blush.I could tell that it hadn’t been intention and just slipped out. Honestly, it made my heart swell to think that there was a part of him that saw me as a mother figure. He had accepted me immediately and had mentioned how happy he was about the bond between Max and me.Embarrassment and hope warred inside of him for dominance – embarrassment because of his slip, and hope because he secretly wanted me to be okay with it. Looking back was a woman who was still odd to see.I looked the same but not at the same time. My features were more defined. More mature. Amber eyes held a happiness that I had never experienced before he came into my life. I had just gotten by day to day, but he showed me how important it was to also live for me.There were currently dark circles under my eyes that I had been covering up with magic known as makeup. Each day that passed by brought us one step closer to dealing with the Appersons.Sleep never came easy to me unless my mate wore me out in the best possible way. ENZOThere were gasps and laughs heard throughout the crowd.I barely contained my snarl. The only reason that I suppressed it at all was because there were humans who worked here too. Otherwise, I’d show everyone what happened when you crossed an Alpha-born to this extent.Embarrassment, pain, and sadness flowed down the bond. She couldn’t honestly believe that I’d say any of those things, could she?“WHAT IN THE FUCK IS GOING ON?” I shouted as loudly as I could since I couldn’t really snarl.‘Kill them. Kill them all,’ Titan raged within me, seething that someone dared to hurt our mate like this.As much as I wanted to side with him on this, I couldn’t just up and kill them.‘Sven, find out everything that you can about the pictures and video that’s being displayed in the cafeteria please.’‘Right away, boss.’Niccolò rushed into the cafeteria with Lilac in two. They had clearly gotten interrupted, but I was glad that they were both here right now. He looked murderous as he saw what
