Tu ne mérites pas d'être Luna ! » Mon fils aîné, Chris, m'a lancé un regard perçant et a ricané : « Elle est où, ta blessure, Maman ? Tu as l'air en parfaite santé. Tu as tout simulé juste pour attirer l'attention ? » Mon fils cadet, Colin, m'a regardée avec des yeux pleins de déception. Il a lentement secoué la tête et a murmuré : « Maman, tu nous as encore menti… juste parce qu'on aime davantage Kristie ? » Kristie a serré la main de Luke, sa voix tremblait d'une fausse innocence tandis que des larmes coulaient sur ses joues : « Je suis désolée, Christina… Je ne fêterai plus jamais mon anniversaire. S'il te plaît… arrête de créer des problèmes à Luke et aux jumeaux. » J'ai serré les poings, retenant ma louve furieuse. J'ai regardé les quatre tourner les talons et sortir sans un seul regard en arrière.

Ensuite, j'ai brisé le lien du destin et je suis partie sans me retourner. Ce n'est qu'au moment où Kaël a été frappé par une douleur brûlante et qu'il m'a suppliée de revenir que le Chaman lui a dit froidement : « Elle est une vraie princesse. Et toi, tu n'as jamais été digne d'elle. »
