​The heavy glass doors of L’Aura closed behind them, cutting off the soft cello music and the suffocatingly polite atmosphere of high society. The valet brought Ryan’s sleek black sports car around, and the ride back to the Hayes Tower was conducted in an absolute, terrifying vacuum of sound.

Élianor White. An immaculate, gentle white that wraps around everything. It is the first thing I perceive. An absence of color, of weight, of cold. A diffuse, soothing light. Is this what heaven feels like? I have never truly believed in heaven. Hell, yes I know it well. I have walked through it. But this… this is silent. Warm. There is no smell of mildew, of cold sweat, of damp earth. The air is light. Sterile.

Lucifer’s amber eyes gleamed. “Not in the way I was.” Aeron’s posture shifted subtly. “That changes the lower architecture entirely.” “Yes,” Lucifer said. “And heaven knows it.” Right on cue— The sky to the east ignited white. Not gentle. Not curious. Structured. Rigid. A blade of descending light carved through cloud cover. Luke cursed under his breath. “Of course.” Caius stumbled backward. “Is that—” “Yes,” Aeron and Lucifer said at the same time. Heaven was not arriving diplomatically.

“And you are destined for greatness.” “This fight is not yours alone to bear.” “Love cursed you…” “And true love shall one day dispel the darkness…” “…unseal and break the chains.” She whispered softly as her body became increasingly transparent. “Wait for it…” She muttered before her body dissolved into countless tiny lights within my embrace. The lights slowly rose into the night sky… Ascending toward the moon. “Nooooo!” “Arrrrrrgh!” I screamed in agony. My heart shattered. “Evil God Baalzelbul…”

His sparks of light appeared to him like orphan fireflies above the infinite darkness of the water. On the third day, they crossed a latitude and the next thing they knew, dawn was breaking on the horizon. They squinted at the dazzling light, bleary-eyed. Temujin and Aki finally had an inkling how their ancestors must’ve felt coming out of the Age of Darkness, upon the parting of the curtain of dust clouds brought about by the Fire from Heaven meteor. It was like being witness to the breaking of a curse.

I have also learned how they refer to each other. A person named Night is a twilight lyceum; this means protectors of the twilight and carries the virus to create other lyceums. Chanco means protectors of the night. The twilight is what they call the shadow realm. The shadow realm is the term given to the plane between day and night; it is a world within itself. The only way I can explain it is a dimension just outside of our reality.

Isabella POV I headed toward the stairs and a soft melody began drifting to my ears; a piano playing somewhere in the house. I knew Noah and the others were watching a hockey game in the living room, so I followed the sound, realizing it was coming from the rooftop lounge. Curious, I climbed the stairs, letting the music guide me and finally reached the rooftop to find Justin sitting at a sleek white piano, completely absorbed. He was lost in his own world, his gaze resting somewhere in the sky as his fingers danced over the keys. I took a step closer, captivated.

Heaven stretched out before him and it was not the huge beautiful hall he saw last time, but an endless, cloudless expanse. The sky was a ceaseless shade of soft, mournful blue, stretching in every direction without horizon. The ground beneath his feet shimmered faintly, translucent like glass, yet firm enough to hold him. And wandering across that vast openness were dozens of gods.

It seemed never-ending, so when it finally threatened to take me, I gave in to the darkness that was beckoning and promising peace from the constant pain and burning. I seem to be awake but I’m not. Maybe I'm dreaming. I look around me but there is nothing but black and darkness, and then there is a small white light. I look at it and wonder if that is the way to heaven. I take a small step toward it but stop when I hear a beautiful girl's voice that seems to be flowing out of that white light. "Stella!” “Hello?? Is this the way to heaven?” I looked around, looking for the voice in the darkness, even though it was coming from the white light
