Mum shrieked like someone who had seen a ghost. Grim curled the side of his lips into a smirk before stretching his hand towards me. "My sweet corruption, come to Daddy." He coaxed and I found myself obeying, walking over to him while my mum's jaw dropped. "You slut," Mum yelled as she grabbed the glass cup and hurled it at me but Grim immediately turned me away, letting the cup hit his back instead. Beads of sweat gathered on my forehead, my stomach dropping as I feared for Mum, who Grim turned to glare at, his red eyes darkening.

The third wolf falls, and Grimm turns to another, when suddenly he drops to his knees as an axe whirls out of the darkness and buries itself in his back. What is happening! I want to scream, but I can’t. My body can only watch. Grimm collapses in front of me, kneeling as he struggles to reach his back. The wound is fatal. I can see it in the way his strength falters. His eyes lock onto mine, tears gathering. His bloodied hand trembles as he lifts it toward me, searching for support. Fear grips me, yet I cannot bear the thought of losing him. He… is my friend. I raise my hand and press it against his. Suddenly, the world around me swirls.

The name Grimmer acted like a cold front, chilling the air in the room. "Is he really that bad?" Liv whispered. "Worse," Ethan said, his playful face going hard. "He’s not just a teacher; he’s a warden." "Did you hear about the student who almost reached his breaking point last year? Grimmer didn't just give him detention. He humiliated him."

A lone candle jar on the east side of Daemon Grimlock's study exploded. His face contorted in shock, a stark contrast to his previous composure while studying the fortune. He stared at the shattered glass in disbelief. A violent cough erupted from his lungs, expelling blood as his blood pressure spiked. The commotion alerted the secretary outside, who attempted to enter. "Mr. Grimlock?" "It's nothing!" Grasping his cane for support, Daemon clutched another candle jar tightly. His voice, aged by a decade in a mere moment, rasped, "Send someone to check on Owen. I need to know what he's doing right now."

The sound of power tools echoed from inside while several of the boys worked beneath lifted trucks and motorcycles. At least someone was having a productive day. I climbed out of the truck. Grim noticed me almost immediately. He wiped grease from his hands onto a rag before walking over. “You’re back.” I nodded. “How’d it go?” I didn’t bother pretending. “Not well.” His expression became serious. “What happened?” “Reaper already knows about the federal agents.” Grim frowned. “I figured as much.” “So?” I leaned against the truck. “I didn’t ask him for help.”

"Love? Dude, take a good look at yourself in the mirror. If it weren't for your money, who would want to put on an act with some sleazy, overconfident guy like you? You really think you're some big shot CEO? Now that you're broke, of course I'm dumping your pathetic behind." With that, Sandy turned and walked away. As she passed by me, she stopped and immediately plastered a fawning smile. "Ms. Greer, to be honest, I was deceived by him, too. If I had known what a scumbag he was, I never would have had anything to do with him. Besides, I'm sure you're far too magnanimous to hold this against someone as insignificant as me." Watching her grovel like that, I felt nothing but disgust.
