Kisah cinta dalam cerita ini menceritakan tentang perjuangan seorang wanita yang berusaha mempertahankan rumah tangganya. Poligami dilakukan karena tidak kunjung hadir seorang bayi kecil pada usia pernikahan yang sudah menginjak tahun ke-4. Aljna--tokoh aku dalam cerita ini adalah putri dari seorang Kyai tersohor di Jawa Timur.
