The sky split open. A tremor rolled through the forest, and dozens—no, hundreds—of glowing-eyed, shadow-bound spirits clawed their way out of the ground around them. Twisted vampire souls, pulled from the nether. “Cheyenne!” Charlie bellowed. “Protect the line!” Cheyenne didn’t hesitate. “Tora, time to nuke some bitches!” “Already on it!” Tora spun midair, inhaled, and let loose a firestorm that turned half the battlefield into glass.

Reuben, a thirteen year old who is also there with us and his baby sister asked while Josh held Noah’s hand. “He will kill you if he finds out you helped us” I said scared for his life. “I will take it as my punishment for rejecting you. Now leave” He said as he opened the back door. I stare at him for one last time before grabbing Josh’s hand and we all finally starts running, running away from the monster who had kept us there for years. We were free. Free from him. We are finally free. Maybe some dreams do come true. “Am hungry” Josh said after we finally stopped for what seems like hours.

The world had descended into chaos, and every day felt like a struggle to keep hope alive. The fever was spreading faster than anyone had anticipated, and the infected were becoming more aggressive. Entire cities were falling one by one. The streets were empty save for those who had already been overtaken by the virus, their grotesque, zombie-like forms stumbling mindlessly through what remained of civilization. It felt like the end was drawing near, and even the most optimistic people were beginning to lose faith.

That grin alone was enough to make my brain melt as it was the same one from last night when he made me forget who I was.
