ELEANOR The soft rustling of silk and lace filled the air as I twirled softly for the second time to admire the wedding dress I had on in front of the mirror. The dress clung to me in all the right places, accentuating my slender frame before cascading to the floor. I was currently in the private show room of Bridal Dreams, a shop owned by the renowned Lisabelle Jones, the most sought-after bridal dress designer in the country and this was my fourth fitting so far. My wedding was going to be happening in less than a week and I couldn’t wait. Every move I made was filled with nerves as though something would go wrong but it’s so close now and I couldn’t wait any more. It still felt like a dream even though I knew it wasn’t. I was finally going to be the bride I always dreamed of. I turned to my best friend, Isla who was sitting on the couch behind me. “So, what do you think?” I asked, my voice edged with excitement and nervousness. Isla Crawford, my best friend since childho

ELEANOR It was time for the engagement dinner, and we were currently in the grand dining hall of the Blackwell’s estate. The place was a show of luxury. Every piece looked like it cost millions of dollars, and it made me go back to my discussion with Isla. I guess I could consider myself lucky. I was sitting beside Theon, my fingers curled tightly around my glass as I forced a smile on my face while pretending that Theon’s cold behaviour wasn’t getting to me. He had been distant ever since I walked through the door and while this cold demeanor was nothing new, I had expected him to be a bit warmer since the night was for us. I know some people would say Theon didn’t love me since he wasn’t very vocal about his feelings, but I had learnt to read the unspoken language of his subtle gestures. His love for me was present in the way his hand rested on the back of my chair anytime I sat close to him or how he always positioned himself between me and anything that would cause me the s

ELEANOR The world tilted beneath my feet, and I held on to the chair, so I didn’t fall from the sway that rocked me. The whispers around me grew but none of it mattered. At that moment, I didn’t care about the whispers, the horrified and disgusted expressions, the accusing eyes. None of them mattered. The only thing that mattered was him. “Theon, please” I choked out, forcing my legs to move as I ran after him. Theon didn’t stop. He didn’t even glance back when my leg made contact with a chair, and I winced out in pain. I managed to grab his sleeve, desperate for him to listen to me first. “Theon, listen to me. At least let me explain” I voiced desperately “These emails, the photos, they are fake. I don’t know who did this and why, but I swear to you, I would never betray you” My world stilled as he stopped. I waited for him patiently but desperately as he turned to me but the man who turned to me wasn’t the same one, I had planned to marry. “Theon” I whispered, my voic

ELEANOR The beeping of the hospital monitors was the only thing keeping me company in the quiet room. I sat beside my father’s bed, my hand gripping his tightly as I prayed to whatever was up there to save my father. And maybe my relationship. Dad was still unconscious, and I couldn’t help but blame myself. I caused this. Everyone else thought the same as well. The doctor had said he fainted because his blood pressure was high so we needed to make sure he avoided anything that would stress him out. Mom had not looked at me since. She stayed at the other end of the bed and had not stopped crying as well. I knew she blamed me. I could see it in her body’s telltale signs that she blamed me. “Aiden” Mom suddenly called out and I looked up to see that Dad had indeed woken up. His eyes fluttered open and he looked around the room first to see where he was. A shaky breath of relief escaped my lips and my eyes watered from the relief, but my relief was short-lived when I saw the emotio

THEON I didn’t know how to feel or react. The only thing I was certain of was that betrayal had a taste, and I didn’t like it. It was bitter, metallic like blood and lingered even though hours had passed since I first tasted it. I sat in my home office, staring at the countless articles written about Eleanor. Images and accusations lined every title, each one more vicious than the last. They were not taking it easy on her and somehow; I felt responsible. Eleanor and I had met after an arranged blind date by our families, and I had to be truthful when I said I wasn't fond of her at first. I had met countless girls like her in my grandfather's effort to make sure I got a wife. I didn't know how it happened. Maybe it was her persistence, but I became fond of her. I looked forward to every meeting. I wanted to be around her all the time. I wanted to touch her, spoil her. Maybe I was not as open in my affection, but I tried. Did my lack of display push her to betray me? Was I so des

ELEANORFIVE YEARS LATERI lingered and I hated that I did. I was not supposed to, but I guess this was a big moment. It was something I had carefully crafted for years, and it was time for it to happen.“Don’t hesitate, Eleanor. They won’t recognize you anyway” I muttered to myself and took a deep breath.I held on to my limited edition pursed and stepped into the room. The moment I stepped in through the oversized double doors of the grand ballroom where the event was happening, the air became electric, and the attention shifted to me.The room that had been loud with chatter, laughter and excitement became quiet as all eyes turned to me.Yes. I wanted to scream out loud while wearing a proud grin, but I couldn’t. The image I wore wouldn’t permit me to act so foolishly like a child.Everyone’s attention was drawn to me immediately. Their eyes held more than mere curiosity. I could taste the awe, the intrigue and the envy and God, did it taste and feel amazing.I was back.I could s

THEON I had always dreaded walking the hallways to my grandfather’s study. There was something unnerving with how he always liked to keep the hall dark, making it feel like it was looming with something evil hanging on every corner. Today, however, that looming feeling was more intensified than ever. My Grandfather had passed away last week. The hallway was cold and empty. The lanterns that lit up the hallway were replaced with bulbs, signifying his absence since he would have never let it happen. The house was still in mourning. The mourning flowers still lined the hall and the curtains had all been replaced with black. I opposed it but Victoria had won claiming it was a family tradition that the flowers and curtains be brought out as though the house wasn’t brooding enough. With my grandfather gone, the Blackwell Group would fully be mine. I wouldn’t dare to say I had waited for this moment since it would be as though I had been secretly wishing he was dead since that w

ELEANOR I stood in front of the ceiling-to-floor window in the new penthouse I had just acquired and watched the city below. I couldn’t see anyone as the building was too far up, but I pretended that Isla, my parents, and Theon were below, watching me as I stood above them. I had just started, but I wanted to be cocky because I could taste my victory at the tip of my tongue. I knew it wouldn’t take time for me to put them all where they belonged. They would all regret betraying me. I would make sure of it. A faint chime broke my thoughts, and I turned my attention to my phone on the coffee table with its light on. I walked towards the table and picked up my phone to read the message. A grin broke out on my face as soon as I read it. One of the people I had in Theon’s company had an update for me, and it was one that would make my revenge a lot easier. Theon needed a wife within the next three months, as stated in his grandfather’s will, and I suddenly had a brilliant idea. “

ELEANOR If it was still the old Eleanor, she may have panicked and begun scrambling for the next plan to make sure what she wanted happened, but not Elle. Gone were the times when I was on the losing side. Now, I was the one controlling the game. Ever since I changed, I always looked at myself in the mirror to remind myself that I wasn’t Eleanor anymore. I reminded myself of what I had to go through in order to get here so I wouldn’t get distracted and forget what brought me back. “Eleanor is dead, Elle,” I whispered to myself as I pulled the robes around me tighter “You are different now and have so many things she lacked. You are untouchable now” Sophie entered my bedroom with a cup of tea, since she hated it when I took coffee in the morning. She had that familiar look of quiet adoration on her face and even though I’ve asked her to stop looking at me like that, she wouldn’t. “You are standing in the mirror again, Ellie. What are you overthinking this time?” She asked with

ELEANOR I lingered at the entrance to study Reginald Blackwell. Just like his nephew, he had a stagnant cold expression on his face. He was dressed in a clean three-piece suit, his black hair slicked back, and his expression was coy. The universe must be on my side because they didn’t even wait for me to come before putting Theon in the lion’s den. After all, that was what his uncles were. I was back at the hotel but this time, instead of the lounge where I had met Theon the day before, I had been escorted to a private waiting area where Reginald wanted the meeting to happen discreetly. While Blackwell had the distinctive features all Blackwells had, he lacked the quiet, dangerous air of authority that Theon could give easily which made people tremble at his presence. Reginald was also greedy, entitled, lazy and worst of all, careless. He was going to be easy to deal with. I took my time crossing the room to the table where he sat with his back to me. My heels clicked
