Chapter 11

"I won't treat you like that." Matthias lifted his hand and stroked my head to comfort me. "What do you mean?" "I won't disrespect you, look down on you, or humiliate you. I won't deny our relationship in front of others, and I won't make you cry…"My feelings for you have never changed." Matthias lowered his head as he looked at me. I lifted my head and looked into his eyes. I was all he saw. He leaned in closer to me until the tips of our noses were touching. I still wasn't able to accept him kissing me while I was clear-headed. I turned my head to the side. Matthias let out a soft chuckle. "That's alright. I'll wait for you. I'll wait till you move on from your past and decide to accept me." He let go of me and took a step back. Then, he turned around and entered the kitchen. Watching his slightly downcast figure from behind, I felt like my heart was tight. The tightness in my chest was indescribable. Of all times, why did someone like him show up when my heart

Chapter 12

After gathering my composure, I went out in slippers. The end of spring in Southhope City saw bougainvilleas blooming on the side of the streets. When the breeze blew, bougainvilleas drifted along before scattering all over the surface of the lake, creating ripples in the water. I spaced out as I sat on a bench in the park. Then, I spotted an elderly woman selling flowers. "Hello, Miss. Would you like some flowers?" "No, there's no one I'd give them to." I tilted my head and took a glance at the elderly woman's flowers. Their colors were beautiful. To the general public, fresh flowers signified love. Meanwhile, I did not have any feelings of love left within me for anyone else. The elderly woman grinned and suggested, "You can give them to yourself. Don't you deserve to receive a bouquet of flowers too?" Thereafter, she sat down by my side. As humans, we were often unable to open up to people around us. Yet, we would be willing to have a heart-to-heart talk with s

I lifted my eyes to look at the man. Despite this chilly weather, Matthias was dressed thinly with a pair of slippers on and a jacket in his hands. His face was flushed red and his forehead was covered in sweat from the run. He looked at me nervously. As he stood beside some overhead bougainvilleas, some of the flowers fell and landed on his shoulders. We were just one step away from one another. He had his head down. The nervous look in his eyes had not yet dissipated. I walked over to him and presented the flowers to him."Do you want these flowers?""Definitely!" Beaming, he accepted the bouquet. Thereafter, he put the jacket over me and opened his arms. He was respecting my decision. This time, I took the initiative to put my arms around his waist, and the fragrance of pine wafted up to my nose. If I were sincere about loving someone, why shouldn't I be loved? Just because I was once hurt by a cruel man, I shouldn't have to be spiteful toward every other man

Chapter 14

The day after getting together with Matthias, he brought me to a private boutique that designed stylish outfits with exquisite workmanship. Dresses of all kinds were displayed in the shop. I stood in front of the rows of dresses, barefaced, clasping my hands together nervously. Out of all these dresses, there were some that were skimpy, some that were simple and pure, and some that were elegant. Throughout the years of being with Tyler, my outfits were always mature-looking and revealing. He said that he liked to see me like this and that it suited me. As such, I always dressed that way. Matthias took me by the hand. "Jazzy, pick whichever you like. Don't be bothered by what others might think. Myself included." In the end, I chose a long, blue dress. The gentle blue color gave me an icy and distant look. Matthias glanced at the dress briefly before fixing his eyes on my face. That gaze of his was gentle yet fiery. Putting his arms gently around me, he said, "Jazzy, j

Within two months, Matthias drew over 30 portraits of me. Some of them were of me barefaced, some had me in thick makeup, some showed me laughing out loud, whereas there were some of me crying while watching a movie. His artwork depicted every version of me straightforwardly. Our days were plain and simple. It wasn't until Matthias' art exhibition was held in Burgton City that Tyler's assistant, Ben Morton, reached out to me. I opened the message and saw that it was an invitation to an artist's art exhibition in Burgton City. Other than that, it came with a message that read, "Sorry." I scoffed. The art exhibition seemed like Tyler's idea. He was aware that I loved art. But, he always criticized me for pretending to appreciate art, so he never bothered to visit art exhibitions with me. As for the message of apology, that seemed more like something Ben added on his own accord. I smirked. With a frigid look on my face, I replied, "Okay." On the other end, Ben handed t

Chapter 16

On the day of the art exhibition, Burgton City was storming, while Southhope City was having an unexpected, sunny day. Matthias covered my eyes and mysteriously said that he wanted to take me somewhere. As I held onto his hand, I made my way through the garden based on what I remembered about the place. It wasn't until I caught the whiff of a flowery fragrance that the cloth around my eyes was pulled away. Matthias waited until my eyes had adapted to the brightness before he moved his hands away. The garden was full of prairie flowers dancing along with the breeze like waves. I was completely amazed. A petal from one of the flowers drifted through the air and landed on my palm. Matthias was in a neat, black suit with a red bow tie. He looked at me nervously; his cheeks blushing slightly. He got down on one knee and retrieved letter after letter from his bag. Yellow spots had begun to form on the envelopes. "These are love letters that I wrote for you in high school. I

Chapter 17

Tyler arrived at the entrance of the art exhibition early, carrying a bouquet of fresh roses in his arms and drawing the attention of many as he stood among the crowd. It was raining cats and dogs outside. He stood out on the porch, glancing subtly toward the end of the street. Three hours later, he ran out of patience. As a staff member watched their guests leave after visiting the exhibition, he finally spoke up. "Sir, would you like to come in to visit the exhibition? We will be closing soon." Deep down, Tyler was rather annoyed. He wasn't interested in art in the first place. He wasn't the type to wait for others either. This was the first time he wanted to see what sort of art I liked. He entered the exhibition with his flowers. The portrait of a woman was hung against a pure, white wall. The woman in the painting had a blue dress on. Her silky hair draped down her shoulders, and while she looked distant, she had a joyful smile. The barefaced and pure-looking woman

Tyler wanted to destroy that painting. He charged forward. When his fists touched the glass in front of the painting, he was apprehended by the security personnel, who escorted him out thereafter. Once an elegant man, Tyler struggled and freed himself from the security guards' grasp awkwardly. With his eyes looking red, he scrolled through the call history on his phone. Yet, he failed to find the number he wanted to look for no matter how long he scrolled. He knew that number, but it was so vague in his memory. Throughout the past nine years, he never memorized my number. Ben's name popped up on the screen. Ben was his personal assistant. He was the one who communicated with me about visiting this art exhibition.Eventually, Tyler's racing heart calmed down. He figured that something must have come up for me, which was why I failed to show up. He believed that I would never bear to leave him. "Mr. Freeman, Jasmine is getting married." "W-what? Are you working togethe

No matter how powerful Tyler might be in Burgton City, he had to put in quite a bit of effort to locate me within Southhope City. On the day of my wedding, I wore a white wedding dress and a princess tiara. Hand in hand with Matthias, we toasted with our guests. While I was chatting with the guests, I received a call from Tyler. I switched our call to a video call and pulled Matthias in front of the camera. "Apologies, Mr. Freeman. We're getting married right now. "You don't have to be here, but don't forget our wedding gifts." All color drained from Tyler's face immediately. His gaze traveled from my veil to my wedding gown. Finally, he looked at my hand, which was in Matthias' grip. The sizable diamond on my ring blinded him. "Jasmine, you can't marry him. If you do, I will send your video to Matthias—" "What video are you talking about?" "Do you remember my friend saying that he saw a video of you? It's right in my phone. You'd better not marry him. "Wait for me.

I held tightly onto Matthias' hand. "Just leave, Tyler. You said you want to send the video of me to Matthias? Go ahead." With his eyes fully reddened, Tyler growled, "Did you really think that I would send the video to someone else?" I looked toward him. "Weren't you the one who said that you would?" "That was because I had no other choice. What should I do for you to return to me?" Tyler was choking up by now."I am a married woman now." I picked Matthias' hand up. On his finger was the ring we had just exchanged earlier. It glistened under the light. "Did you think that he wouldn't actually mind that you were once with me for nine years?" Tyler started to run his mouth. "Who wouldn't want to marry a pure and innocent woman? If he truly loved you, why didn't he come back to look for you after being overseas for so many years? "Why did he happen to show up when you and I were having a fight? "How innocent do you think Matthias is? He and I are both men. Of cours
