chapter 31

I rushed inside to buy everything I needed to write her a letter. I wanted to head home right away, but I stopped dead in my tracks. What should I write her? How should I start? How should I address her? Mon amour? Ma belle? Ma petite? Sara?Should I apologize right of the bat?I walked in circles, contemplating what size I should write my letters with. Italic or normal handwriting? Could she even read my normal handwriting? Was I a clean writer? Could I phrase myself the way I wanted to? Would she understand what I wanted to say?I stopped as I saw the people from the supply store all looked over to me and I quickly walked deeper into the village. The smell made me stop after a while and I closed my eyes, inhaling it deeply. There's so much I loved about this place, something not even Connecticut could fulfil inside my body. Marie claimed I was such a strange person – I had an old soul, loved the digital world, hated tardiness, neglect and unsureness, yet I loved a woman who's every

chapter 32

Léon's POVMichael ate the food Marthe had prepared for him, munching on it with a fond expression, already eyeing what he'll eat next. I was glad he was eating somewhat properly again, yet ... I shifted in my seat. There were still so many open questions. "So you will leave for New York now? To chase after her?"My brother angled the sandwich before he bit into it. "No. I don't care about that now."My ears must have betrayed me. "W-What!? But you just said-!""I'll contact Jessica, Nina and Clarissa first. Sara will push me away no matter what I do, so it's futile if I drop everything and go back. But she won't push them away. I'll have Jess tell her everything she needs to know until she is active again, then I will seek her out. I will stay today and tomorrow in Gordes, then I will leave for Paris with uncle to take part in the meeting we had arranged." Michael sounded as if he was so sure of himself, as if he knew that's how everything would go down – but one thing bothered me."

chapter 33

"I needed a break from my job. Tomorrow I'm going to Paris." How come she knew that? "With us?", Estelle asked and raised her head. "Of course", I quickly answered to avoid her famous meltdown.I let her down and put Adrien out his seat. "Go pick a toy. I'm right behind you." They ran away with a loud 'yay'."Are you on your own?", Amelie asked, avoiding my eyes. Oh great. Wrong direction. Completely wrong direction. "Yes. My girlfriend stayed in New York. She can't leave work as easily as I can." Amelie brushed her hair back with a rushed manner. "Of course not, since you are the boss", she giggled awkwardly. "I-uh-won't bother you anymore. Have fun with your niece and nephew." "Thank you. A good day to you too", I interrupted this before it got too awkward."Tatie?", Estelle asked with a barbie doll in her hands. I shook my head. "No, that's not your tatie." "Does tatie look like her? Brown hair brown eyes?" "No, tatie is different. More beautiful." "Tatie a princess?", Est

Sara's POVFriday finally approached - I was so bored. I was so beyond bored with this always repeating work and those simple tasks. Print the papers. Design the layout of the papers. Reread the papers. Correct the papers. Spend lunch with my old boss. Go back to reading the papers. Answer a few emails. Send out a few emails. Go fetch the latest issue of any newspaper. Most of these tasks were just a copy and paste type of task and just took mere minutes. I always went home two hours earlier. And that was another problem; the fact I got home so early. I had nobody to hang out with, so what did I do? Clean the flat until my hands burned. Go jogging for hours and hours. Read all the books I had.Not only was I bored, I felt as if everything around me was just so ... bothersome. Why bother dressing nicely? Why bother going out? Why do anything at all? Nobody saw me, nor did anybody judge me.What sense did it make? I had lost it all, what more could I lose?I fastened my jogging shoes wi

chapter 35

Michael's POV"I forgive you."Uncle Jacques shifted in his seat, wiping away his tears. The suitcase had fallen onto the ground with a loud thud. Uncle stretched with a smile.Uncle and I had landed in Paris. My driver had picked us up on the dot and had driven him to his home. While we drove there, I quickly booked a hotel room, stubbornly insisting I needed this alone time. This was so weird – I had sworn I would never set foot in Paris again, unless it was for business matters only. I didn't want to see the most beautiful city be happy and full of life when my little brother had passed away here. I didn't want to see the man who had raised him and had watched him die with us.I didn't want to remember the nurses beside Bastien's bed, along with the beeping medical machines around him as he weakly smiled at us. His face, the shadow around his eyes, the pale yellowish colour of his skin and the many dots of the sickness that would drag him into his grave at such a young age were a h

chapter 36

Talking about them: "Are you in New York again?" "Just got home", Marie told me. She was always quick to pick up the phone. "How are you, my little boy?", she asked carefully. "Good. We've talked for hours. We had cried too", I silently told her. "I made peace with my mind. Jacques is not to blame. Neither am I, as hard as it is to believe." "I'm proud of you, Michael. I'm so proud of you." "Thank you, mum", I laid down with a tired sigh. "I can't believe I managed to pull this off." "But it's good that you did. You can make peace with your inner turmoil." "I know", I closed my eyes. "I'll be home soon. I booked an earlier flight since the meeting is over. I'll be home tomorrow evening the latest." "We miss you already. Sleep tight for now. See you soon." "See you soon. Love you too."Jessica finally responded.Jessica Brown onlineJessica, can we talk?12:30PM√√What about?2:05AMSara2:05AM√√I need to know how she is doing.2:05AM√√Have you heard from her?2:05√√Ask your

I had tried to push him out of my life but all those articles about his sudden disappearance had gotten me worried ... And the article that claimed it was due to a family problem didn't make it better. Was it his mother? His father I had heard so little about? No, Sara. You are not thinking about him.I put my phone away and went back to correcting the article in front of me. chapter 38

"My brother came by with his children. That helped. I talked to my family and they urged me to go after you. I visited Sébastien's grave twice and talked my heart out. Once my uncle came back, I decided to go to Paris with him. I forgave my real uncle who had raised Sébastien and contacted Jessica every day to keep me updated on you."While I had laid back and forced myself away from everybody."Tell me everything", I begged him. "Alright – I lost it as soon as you left the company", he told me with a deep sigh "I went maniac. Fired people left and right, didn't leave the office for a whole week, didn't bother eating. Marie and Gerard had tried to make me come home, but I had sent them away. My brother Léon had told me to stop this mess and with my parents I went to Gordes. I stayed there for a week, then went back to New York and worked for another 2 weeks without you."Michael cupped my face. "What about you?" "I ran until my legs gave in", I told him. "That's where I found Mr Bir

I frowned. "Why would you drag my father into this?""Because he himself agreed to never allow you to be in a relationship with me again, after the way you acted." Michael smiled, content with himself. "Now our secret is out; what a bummer. Daddy Angus is against Michael after he served his purpose. He wants somebody better for his little girl who loves the fame.""I don't love the fame, Mike. I love the advantages of it.""That's why you have this illusion in your head that you love me", he pointed out, picking up his phone. "You loved the idea of 'Eleanor Hawkins-Beaumont and her rich husband Michael Beaumont, the collaboration between Hawkins Enterprise and Beaumont Enterprise, America's strongest, richest banks and financial institutions.' Am I wrong?"I grinded my teeth."Yes, it's me Angus. I know it has been long and I'll make it court. Pick up your daughter for me, will you?"As I left his office I forced myself to put on a façade. Two women went towards me and one eyed me cur

chapter 40

"I understand", Mr Birmingham instantly interrupted me.It was Monday 12th and I went to Mr Birmingham at my usual time. He had already expected me and called me to his office. He smiled brightly at me. "Mr Beaumont himself visited me this morning and brought a new worker along to replace you in exchange. I understand you want to go back, this isn't yours Sara." "And you are really alright with it, Mr Birmingham?" "Yes", he patted my head. "Just remember me when you read any papers, ok?"Jess and the others dragged me into the building the moment they spotted me and the three of them all spoke at the same time once I sat down on my chair. On my desk, which had stayed the same as if I hadn't left a month ago, was a cake and several bouquets of flowers. It was a welcome back gift from the girls and Michael. The bouquet of red roses, at least 20 roses, were from him, as the card told me.Their hugs were bone crushing, but I laughed happily. I had my friends back and I would see them ev
