“You can run, but you can never stay hidden from me. I will find you; I always will.” His voice echoes through the almost empty apartment. Tears stream down my cheeks as my cries muffled through my palms. I push myself further into the cupboard. At seven I am still as small as a four-year-old, so I could fit into almost anywhere. The cupboard is creepy, has cobwebs filled at every corner, and things kept crawling around my body. I want to scream, run to my mommy, but I have none. I am all alone. Heavy footstep thuds signalling movement towards the kitchen. No, no, no, heavens no, please. Not tonight, please. “Where are you? You little piece of shit. Just a little task you couldn't do,” he raged, screaming as he pounds his fist on the counter that is on its last leg. My hair stands on end as something creeps up my legs, and I squawk it away, a sudden squeak leaving my throat.
