Chapter Twenty one

Adrian spent her time hiding in her room. Too scared to face them after the embarrassment she just faced leaving Tristan with Nicholas. “ The place is still the same, huh,” Tristan said, moving and looking around. “So why coming here, you couldn't message” Nicholas questioned “Adrian is suspicious of us, he probably wiretapped it, you know Luke is missing right” Of course, he didn't know. He thought of the last time he saw him. “He'll come back, he's a survivor, he's probably in hiding like us” “ Sure he is, but Adrian’s recent actions are strange.” Tristan put his hand on his chin as if trying to think. “ What do you mean” Nicholas asked curiously. “It's like he doesn't care any longer, he called off the bounty hunters and stopped his men from looking for you guys which is so confusing cause I know the chaos he made because of you guys” The statement puzzled Nicholas the most. What was Adrian planning? He knew Adrian the most. Adrian wasn't the type to give up easily especia

Chapter Twenty-two

The rain started falling unexpectedly, its large droplets hitting the dusty windows and blurring the gray sky outside. Alison stood close to the window, her arms crossed, watching the rain. It reminded her of home. Inside the house, the silence felt heavier with the sound of the rain—each drop constantly reminding her of a feeling of stuckness. Nicholas sat by the kitchen table entirely focused on what he was doing. The table was in a mess of maps, files, and ruffled notes. His coffee was cold, left untouched since he poured it. His sharp eyes scanned all the documents, his expression as that of a stone. Alison wondered how anyone could stay so still for so long , getting more annoyed as she watched him longer. She snapped. "You staring at those papers all day won’t magically solve anything.” She knew she was being annoying but that was the only way to grab his attention. Nicholas didn’t flinch. He didn’t even look up. “And pacing by the window won’t change anything either.” S

Chapter Twenty three

It was the third day now and Nicholas hasn't returned. Alison busied herself with her paintings all day till she eventually ran out of supplies. Her paintings represented her restlessness and it only became worse as she ran out of paint. She sat by the window, watching the sunset. The sunset calmed her mind a little bit. As the sun began to go, rain started to fall. She loved the rain but at this moment she hated it. The house felt like a prison.A knock at the door broke the silence. Her heart skipped a beat. She knew it wasn't Nicholas. Nicholas won't knock for sure. She approached the door with Nicholas’s warning in her mind.“ Who is it?” she asked, hesitating a bit.“ Just a passerby seeking refuge from the rain” came the reply.Alison contemplated whether she should open the door; despite Nicholas's warnings in her mind, she opened the door. She opened the door and it revealed a man. He looked like he would be around Nicholas' age or a bit older. He had long dark hair, although

Chapter Twenty Four

The moment the door closed, Alison felt a strange weight in her chest. The rain had lessened to a light drizzle outside, but the silence within the house was deafening. She wrapped the doorknob with her fingers. How did the man know her name? She tried recalling their conversation in her mind. She never informed him her name —she was certain.Something dawned on her, a chill went down her spine. Who could he possibly be? She began to find breathing a bit difficult. Did Nicholas know this man? Was he dangerous? Her intuition told her that he was. Her hands trembled a little as she took a step back from the door. She turned and hurried to the kitchen after that. She had seen the guns Nicholas had left behind. But when she opened the drawers and cupboards and found that he had locked them before he left, she shuddered a little.Nicholas, screw you. Her thoughts were racing as she paced the room. Where would she go now? Is she supposed to remain here? The electricity flickered. The light

Chapter Twenty Five

Nicholas made his way quickly down the wet lane. All the muscles in his body ached. He didn't want any more time. Adrian's eyes were everywhere. The note at the hideout was a statement rather than merely a warning. He needed to get back to Allison. Nicholas sensed it, even though the streets were oddly silent. The weight of invisible eyes followed every step he took. This was not something he had time for. His fingers tightened around his rifle. A shadow lunged at him as he turned the corner. Before Nicholas could react, a powerful force struck him, pushing him up against a damp brick wall. Then, gritting his teeth and swinging his arm to knock his assailant back, he shot through his ribs. But before he could recover, another person emerged from the darkness. A blade flashed towards his face. Nicholas barely dodged, the sharp edge close enough to graze his cheek. He fired a shot, but Adrian's men, his attackers, were already on the move and they were swift and threatening. Grabbing

Chapter Twenty Six

Alison remained motionless, her fingers still holding the picture. Nicholas' soaked body was a little darkened by the shadows from the faint light from the hidden room, and his body blocked the only way out.Even though his breathing was unsteady and his knuckles were bruised and bloodied, his eyes—his light gray eyes—were fixed on the photographs she was holding. Alison expected him to yell at her, but his silence was much worse. Alison forced herself to look into his eyes as she swallowed. With a voice hardly audible above a whisper, she confessed, "I—I was looking for a place to hide." "I didn't intend to—" She paused, taking another look at the pictures. Amelia. The woman who looked very much like her. Nicholas had never spoken of the woman. Like a predator moving toward its prey, Nicholas moved forward slowly and deliberately. "You're not supposed to be here.”He said quietly. His voice was too low. Alison tried to steady herself by clenching her fists. "Who is she?" She held up

Chapter Twenty Seven

Nicholas' expression changed to something darker, like anger, irritation, or perhaps something else she couldn't identify before Alison had a chance to grasp what he had spoken. "You just had to go looking, didn’t you?" His speech was calm , but there was no mistaking the rage in his eyes. Alison clutched her arms and swallowed. "I didn’t mean to—" "Don’t," he interrupted her. "You're not allowed to explain yourself. Asking questions about topics you don't need to understand is not acceptable. She had not anticipated the reaction from him. This was more than just rage; it was something more profound and seem a bit personal. She whispered, "You're overreacting," she said as she felt her own annoyance increased. Nicholas laughed bitterly. Are you overreacting? Do you believe this to be a game?, You are the one sticking your nose to business that don't concern you. Alison's jaw tightened. "No, but I should be informed as to why I'm being hunted” “ You're acting dumb, like you don't know

Chapter Twenty Eight

The room was suffocatingly quiet. With her arms hugging her body, Alison sat on the side of the bed gazing at the shut door. Her experience with Nicholas had left her shaken. She couldn't get the memory of his rage out of her head. She let out a sharp exhale and ran her fingers through her hair. Today she had learned something insignificant. How long did Nicholas think he could hide it from her and at what expense? She was unaware of how much Nicholas was concealing, and now she found herself lost in her thoughts and her questions. She looked out the window. Danger was lurking nearby. The man from earlier. He frightened her which was quite funny . Oddly she felt very comfortable with him that only scared her more. Could he be the Adrian she thought fearfully. She quickly dismissed the thought. There's no way he would come himself. The fact she looked like Nicholas' possibly late lover shocked her the most. She wondered how he felt staring at her face fully knowing she reminded h

Chapter Twenty Nine

The silence in the room was almost suffocating.Alison's fingers tapped against the windows as she gazed outside the window. The place was secluded, surrounded by thick forests and an iron gate that would be impossible to cross without being noticed.Trapped.That was exactly how she felt. Her thoughts circled back to the night before. Nicholas’ anger had been more than just rage—it was fear. He wasn’t just mad that she had seen those pictures. And that meant there was more to this story than just Amelia.Alison’s gaze flicked toward the door again. He hadn’t returned since locking her in. A part of her expected him to—if only to continue their argument—but the house had been eerily silent since. The place was so quiet that it felt suffocating. Alison stared out at the wide open space while her fingers tapped on the window. Completely stuck in a place she didn't know.Stuck. She has grown used to the feeling by now.She thought about the previous evening.Nicholas had been terrified,

The knock sounded again. Alison’s heart was pounding as she walked up to open the door. She didn't know what to expect from him. She braced herself for whatever she was going to face. Nothing happened. Nicholas stood there, his expression unreadable as usual. She couldn't tell what she was thinking as she looked up at him. She wondered whether he was still angry or at least explained what she saw. For a moment, she thought he might explain or at least say something relating to the incident. She didn't expect what happened next. “We continue our training early,,” He said, his voice low. Alison blinked, unsure if she heard correctly. “ Training” “Yeah, we need to continue with our training; I won't always be here with you,,” he said, his gaze intense. “ Be ready by dawn” Before she could respond, he turned and walked away. And that was it. No confrontation or explanation. No mention of Amelia or what happened. Just like that, as if nothing ever transpired. It seemed like it was
